I have never been to florida in dec. we are going dec 8-10 3 nights staying at the wilderness lodge. What do you wear during the day sweaters, sweatshirts tshirts help!

You can do an online search that will give you the average range of temps and then keep an eye on the accuweather forecast as your trip approaches. We went last Dec and are returning this year (34 days to go!!), and here's what we packed and wore:
shorts
t-shirts
jeans
long-sleeved shirts
"microfiber" fleece -- it's thin polar fleece
swim suits
medium-weight winter jackets, gloves, hats

Day by day, and more importantly mid-day to evening, the temps changed a lot. Wear things you can layer, avoid packing bulky sweatshirts if you can (or just plan to buy them) and think about running a load of laundry while you're there. If you're doing anything at night, be prepared with hats and gloves. Finally, for long days, pack up extra clothing in a backpack and stow it in a locker in the morning so you have it without having to lug everything around all day.

Exactly...you get everything in DEC. You could be swimming one day and freezing the next. We usually have to throw in a load of jeans during the trip otherwise we would have way too much luggage.

The UG Says the Average Temperatures are as follows.

Avg. Daily Low = 51
Avg. Daily High = 73
Avg. Daily Temp = 62

Hope this helps :thumbsup2

you went swimming it was warm enough

Absolutely. Now, mind you, it wasn't warm enough to swim, hang out in a lounge chair, then swim again -- the "lounge and dry off in the sun" thing wasn't happening. (We did choose to eat lunch one day out by the pool but we weren't wearing swim suits.) BUT, it was warm enough to get into the pool and swim and be comfortable. We also discovered one chilly NIGHT that we could spend about 10 minutes in the hot tub and raise our body temps enough so that we could swim and then make the trek back to our rooms without freezing -- we wished we'd discovered that earlier in the trip so we could have done it more often. Anyway, bottom line was that there was never a time we wanted to swim and didn't because of the temps.

BTW, we live in Massachusetts, so we're pretty hale and hearty as far as "winter" in Florida is concerned -- I know that can make a difference!

And thanks to DisneyNutz for posting those average temps!! :grouphug:

You have to pack everything. In '01 we experienced a heatwave, no days were below 85 degrees, (we also learned that there was a dramatic down-turn in temps shortly after we left that year). In '03 it was actually cooler in Orlando, during a couple days of our trip, than it was here in New England. And finally in '04 we got a mixed bag, a few days were shorts and T-shirt weather and a few days were jeans and sweatshirt weather. We literally have to pack twice as much for our December trips than Spring or Summer.

It really is just luck of the draw.... we've gone down many times Dec 4-11 (or there abouts) and MOST of the time we've been lucky with temps in the 70's by day (and even some 80's!) and then it would really dip in the evenings into the 40's/50's..... but being from New Enland-that didn't bother us! :rotfl: The last time we went in Dec. ('04), the day we arrived it was very cool (jacket/pants weather) the first and last day-but in between-it was shorts weather all week.... I usually start checking the 10 day forecasts constantly as the trip approaches so I can get an idea of how much of everything to pack (ie. more pants or shorts)....

Good luck and enjoy! I love Disney during the holidays!!! :)

We are from Connecticut so, if the temperature is in the 60's we will be wearing shorts. 60's is warm to us :thumbsup2

Ditto the above. To give you an idea of what can happen, this is what happened during a 6 night stay in December:
Day 1: mid-70s or 80's, rainy most of the day.
Days 2-5: COLD!!! But the sky was crystal clear and beautiful! It was in the 40's during the day -- layering helps, but you need something you can take off when you're indoors. For example, a t-shirt underneath a sweatshirt. They keep the indoor attractions and restaurants heated, so you'll be sweatin' if you don't take off your jacket or sweatshirt. Water parks were closed.
Day 6: Back up into about the 70's -- they opened the water park, and we went, but it was still a litlte chilly. Day was nice, at night there was a thunderstorm.

I will be at WDW Dec 7,8,9. I plan on checking the weather via the computer 2 days before i go. Since I'm only going for 3 days (2 of them traveling) I should get an accurate weather report. I'm worried about the possibility of snow here in MI when I leave and arriving in Florida to 90 degree weather!

We went in 2001 and it was HOT HOT HOT...went again in 2002 and it was FREEZING!

We'll be watching the weather closely the week before we go and packing a little bit of everything. Also, I plan on doing laundry while we're there.

It's simple... prepare for ANYTHING!!

One year it was warm - really nice - during the day and a light sweatshirt at night was all we needed.

Last Dec we just happened to hit the coldest week of the year and froze out little t***ys off!

I would bring hats & gloves and jackets just in case and hope you don't need them. And be prepared to layer.

Last year, I also threw in one of those silver disposable space blankets... mostly as a joke to myself. I was SO glad I had that thing! I sat on it during the parade and by the end of the night it was wrapped around me... I'm sure someone saw me... it was quite a sight but it helped SO much and took up almost no space in my fanny pack.

And don't forget your rain ponchos.... but regardless the weather changes really fast, so you'll have a wonderful trip no matter what!

Watch the advance forecasts on weather.com....

... but don't believe them!! :rotfl2:

Like they said, pack for everything. Don't pack a heavy coat, but pack layers, so if it goes down to 40F, you can wear three or four light layers and you'll be fine. Bring light gloves and/or earmuffs if you must. But hey, if you can't handle 40 degrees without a parka and hat, you must be from California! :stir:
