Well, we were on the September 1 Fantasy cruise. First, the itinerary changed then during dinner on Tuesday they announced the cruise was canceled and we were steaming back to port. It was a nightmare on the boat, 3000 people trying to make travel arrangments on a boat with very limited satellite phone lines. My wife and I are continuing our vacation in Port Orleans where we were going to go after the cruise initially.

Dis team if you want to talk to people who were on the boat email me.

Glad you all made it back safe and sound before they shut down the airport on Saturday and were able to extend your stay at POR. And really glad that you will be sheltered if Irma decides to run up the middle of the state. However, sorry that your itinerary got switched around though and you visited ports in a different order and got cut short. I would bet that trying to adjust flight arrangements had you arrived back in town on Saturday might have been a huge challenge.
Have a great rest of your vacation.

How were the seas? Rougher than usual? Would love to hear details of the cruise and how DCL handled things. Good, bad and ugly.

Glad that you are safe. Stay safe at POR. I hope that those who were trying to get out of Florida were able to do so.

Yeah... When I see something like "Finally off" in a title I tend to read it as they had a negative experience...

There was some listing the first full day of the cruise, but it wasn't too crazy. More rocking then normal, but not so much rocking that you would stumble, lose your footing etc. (Unless you are my four year old, and she was going for comedic effect. ;) )

There was some major listing on Thursday when we arrived back, but to be fair, there were multiple cruise ships and container ships heading back to Port Canaveral. Our waves were bouncing off each other. (Mid afternoon?) Again, nothing crazy like transatlantic weather. Some large rolling and listing, but mostly it was smooth sailing.

Obviously safety is the #1 priority and it's understandable why they had to come back, but I can't say I wouldn't be disappointed to have my cruise cut short and have it not be truly the vacation I expected.

I say that as someone who has their house boarded up and is waiting for Irma to hit.

There's no one to blame, but I think it's human to be disappointed.

Hopefully you're nowhere near the coast and will weather the storm just fine.

Love this. Why does it seems at times that people are not allowed to be disappointed?
Be safe....

There are a lot of passengers we are in contact with trying to get out. Their original flights are officially canceled, There are no more large rental vehicles, and Disneyworld is basically sold out. They have nowhere to go and no way to get to somewhere else. There is a real problem with dropping 4000 people off in an active evacuation zone. The more I hear about others issue

I was wondering how that would work out noting a lot of passengers from multiple ships would all need rescheduled flights. Yikes!

I'm not sure what alternative you feel would have been better.

Glad your safe! I am assuming DCL took the ships out to sea. I read that cruise lines port of Miami took there crew and families out to sea to get the ship and out of harms way.

Both the Dream and Fantasy headed to Cozumel to ride out the storm.

Maybe a different port would have been better....Louisiana or something. Out of the potential impact zone.
But what about all the people on board that needed to get back to homes in Florida to prepare.

Nobody would have accommodations secured in La. In Florida many would have been locals that could return home and prepare and other would have already had air or hotels booked at least for the days after the cruise was supposed to end. Others may have driven from out state but had cars at PC.

No solution was perfect and nobody was put in danger:
