Finally interested in Once Upon a Time-Frozen's Elsa?

~Thanks so much for posting this. I have never watched a single episode of Once Upon A Time. I will try to remember to set my DVR, so I can at least catch this episode. My TV watching is quite limited and so far the only show that has grasped my attention this season enough to follow is Mr. Selfridge! :lmao:

~OMG, my grandma got my mom & I so hooked on this! I had to stream the entire season 1 and the beginning of season 2, so I could enjoy watching the remainder of Mr. Selfridge Season 2.

~Anyway, I don't know if I can just jump into Once Upon A Time without feeling lost -- but, I will certainly try. If it's really good, I'll just have to order all of the previous seasons and try to get caught up but that's rare, lol! :goodvibes

~I don't have a clue as to who should play Elsa & Anna but whoever they are -- they've got some high expectations to meet, lol.:goodvibes

It is going to be a repeating storyline for season 4, so it won't be just one episode. If possible you should watch in order to get the gist of what is going on. If you don't have the time or inclination, then do a Google search for a synopsis of each season. Below are some good links. There are a number of surprises that will be spoiled by reading below, but if you don't have the time, these will catch you up:

This site has a good overall summary and explanation of the different elements:

Here is ABC's episode guide for all 3 seasons. They may have all the shows to watch, too:
http://abc.go.com/shows/once-upon-a-time/episode-guide/season-01

Here is an episode guide that gives a brief explanation of what happened in each episode for all 3 seasons:
http://www.tv.com/shows/once-upon-a-time-2011/episodes/

Here is a site that explains some of the main storyline and gives info about characters:
http://seriable.com/once-upon-a-time-complete-character-guide/

Here is the Once Upon a Time Wiki:

I am very hopeful they will do this right! They have already said that this will not be a rehash of the movie, but will respect the "universe" they come from and play on the main themes of the movie.

Also not to be a downer, but... my wife loves this show.. and I tolerate it. The story line is such a stretch... even for a Disney show. They combine all of the show and movie characters in a way that makes no or little sense. Several of the characters are representative of two or three D characters, and randomly carry their names....

~Hello there, Mr. Frozen expert! Awww, thank you so much for taking time to post all of the links for me! I'll be sure to check them out. I don't know if I can watch all three seasons of this -- I totally *love* Elsa but not that much! But, the links you provided are totally doable, so that will help.

~Anyway, it's so good to know you, because I am going to look for your review on this before I even attempt to dive into the previous episodes! Thanks again. :goodvibes

I don't mean to be a downer, but you know that these are not the characters right? These are fan-made posters of what someone wants them/hopes they will look like...
~LOL. Yeah, I hope I didn't mislead anyone. I figured this was quite apparent when I said, that I had no clue as to who should play Anna and Elsa, right above the photo. But, thanks for clarifying this for other readers who may have been confused. :goodvibes

~The other post wasn't a downer that was just a miscommunication, on my part. However, your comments are a complete downer -- but at least you "tolerate" it, lol. The way you just described this show, makes it sound painfully awful to watch. Hopefully, the next season for will prove you wrong! :goodvibes

It's funny-have watched here and there, and never really got into it, but just out of habit record "season finale's" of some bigger shows-just "in case" there is something interesting or even jaw dropping and always is at the end of course.

After Frozen's success we just stared at each other when we "stumbled" onto this, NO WAY! :happytv:

Just scanned through to delete and make room-but glad we saw/have it now.

Whoever is writing the show must have just thought, well my job is secure for now anyway. How would you like that to fall in your lap. :rotfl:

I wanna be a writer.

Side note: Did you see that Disney on Ice has a new show based on Frozen beginning to tour in September!? The whole show is going to be 90% Frozen with snow and ice mountains and Olaf. Awesome. I’m going to buy my tickets for Hershey tonight or tomorrow! It is going to sell out!

If the show writers are careful with Anna and Elsa, next season is going to be awesome! Rating will be through the roof, too!

Are you looking for a review of the coming season as it happens, the entire show as a whole, or the individual seasons and shows?

I'll try to give a general review:

OUAT is weird. Even weirder when you try to explain it to someone.

It is placing Disney characters - and other fictional characters - in our world and providing them a whole interactive story that crosses back and forth between their "worlds" and ours. Characters backstories are told and some are very twisted or different. Some are very moving and fitting.

The main draw of the show at the beginning was the mystery of finding out what character in Storybrooke was which Disney character. Each week told you a little more about the story and about one character. As time has gone on, there are still some characters to be explored but it changed more to the mystery of the storyline and what is going to happen next.

I love the basic premises of the storyline: The "curse" that places fairytale characters in our world without memories in a mysterious town, the premise that all magic comes with a price - something negative is related to every act of magic good intentions or bad, and that Love is the most powerful magic of all that trumps all others.

A great deal of the fun of this show is unravelling the mystery of each character and Storybrooke as the story goes along. Watching out of order, reading a summary, or moving to the end will catch you up to date but take away that major aspect of the show.

What I like and don’t like:

Like
· That Disney would allow so much twisting and alteration of beloved characters,
· Very interesting, funny and different backstories,
· The backstory to Cinderella, Jiminy Cricket, the 7 dwarves, The Evil Queen, and my absolute favorite is what they do with Red Riding Hood.
· That it is all just plain fun,
· That there is a plan and already an end to this story as stated by the writers, who did Lost,
· The basic storyline that all magic comes with a price and love is the most powerful magic (Can you see how Frozen will fit here),
· The actors, particularly the Evil Queen/Regina, Emma (the main character),
· Snow White,
· That the actor playing Prince Charming and the actress playing Snow White just got married! J

Dislike
· As with any weekly TV show the writing and story can be good one week and not so good the next. Overall I like it very much,
· Like any recurring drama or soap opera, there is this unrealistic involvement between characters that have done terrible things to each other and then continue their relationships. This is necessary to forward a story with a set cast of characters and requires a great deal of allowance. (Really? She just tried to kill everyone and now you’re going to forgive her and work together? Only in a TV show.)
· Related to the above is the changing of characters to suit changing storylines,
· Occasionally poor writing, but again, this is true of every single TV show I have ever watched. Accept the original Star Trek. That is perfect. :p
· What they did with Maleficent who is a very minor character,
· Mr Gold & Belle. I don’t care for how they built this set of characters, but I can see how Mr Gold advances the story,
· Prince charming. Sorry, he just isn’t the greatest Prince charming to me.

As I said before, there are two major aspects to the show, the reveal of the storyline and the twisted backstory of your favorite fairytale characters. You can watch shows in almost any order, and only the ones you are interested in, and still enjoy the backstory. This is mostly true of the first season and less for the second season. The storyline will be messed up and you will lose the mystery, but if you want the whole experience it would require watching 66 hour long shows! If you read the synopsis of individual episodes, you can – more quickly and to a lesser degree – get the storyline in order and experience some of the mystery. Then go watch the individual episode that sound interesting.

I tend to forgive more and like more than most people. I know very few people that like as many movies as I do, although I tend to be tougher on TV shows. I really like this, it is weird, fun, at times moving, and I don’t know what is going to happen next. And I love poking fun of and twisting Disney characters.

It has good ratings and remains popular, but will definitely not be everyone’s cup of tea. My wife tolerates it, my son doesn’t, and I LOVE it. J

I am VERY excited about what they are going to do with Anna and Elsa! If they are careful, it will be awesome. They can make it fit Frozen very well and also stay true to the shows premise.

Elsa was in a little bottle stored in a room where the most dangerous things are kept - not necessarily evil, but dangerous. If she was kidnapped from her "universe" after she was kidnapped from her ice palace, then this would fit the Frozen story, but also give a troublesome character for OUAT. They said they will not "rehash" Frozen but will stay true to the characters.

I will share a blow-by-blow of the show next fall. :happytv:

~LOL! First of all, I just have to thank you for introducing me to "Matt Foley" -- that was too funny! :lmao:

~I think it is so awesome that you snagged the finale on a whim! Way to go! :yay:

~I totally agree with you about the writer(s)! It's so unbelievable how he or she or they are so fortunate with being able to incorporate Frozen into the show. I bet, that one scene pretty much locked in the contract for next season, lol! I hope it works out well for show. And, I think you would be a fabulous writer! :cool2:

~OMG, Yellowstonetim! Thank you so much for writing all of this up for me! :worship: Your general review is super helpful! I really appreciate your summary on the basic premises of the storyline:
"The "curse" that places fairytale characters in our world without memories in a mysterious town, the premise that all magic comes with a price - something negative is related to every act of magic good intentions or bad, and that Love is the most powerful magic of all that trumps all others."
~This is just fabulous! I don't know, but I think would just *love* to watch this show! I do enjoy a good mystery because it's so much fun to predict the "who, what, when & where's!" Your description is so helpful, because I know now that I can't just jump into this show without knowing the history behind it!

~So, I just checked Amazon and it's not on prime, so I would have to purchase all of the seasons there.:( But, I've also got Netflix, and Season 1 and 2 are available!

~I cannot believe Season 1 & 2 alone has *22* episodes each! This means I would have to watch a whopping *44* episodes to get all caught up on Netflix! Then I would still have to purchase Season 3 from Amazon, so that's another *22* more episodes! :faint:

~This means I have to watch a whopping *66* episodes -- which amount to over 48 hours or 2900 minutes of TV for just one show.:faint: LOL, I don't know if I can do this. What I think I'll do is watch the first episode of season 4, and if I'm hooked, I'll go back and watch from the beginning! I can't wait to read your review on the premiere of season 4!

~I did *not* know about Frozen on Ice -- I think this is just brilliant! I'm glad you got tickets because it will definitely sell out!

~As a bit of an aside, I did not know you lived in Hershey, PA?!? No wonder, you seem to always have a great sense of humor & are so pleasant. I know it's not the chocolate, but if I had chocolate everywhere I would like that, too! :lmao: I just love how all of the street lights look like Hershey Kisses and how the streets have names like Cocoa & Chocolate Ave. Yum! You must have a million different uses for chocolate! :cool2:

~Anyway, I think it will be exciting to watch OUAT (Frozen style) this season as all of this unfolds. Hopefully, I can follow along & join in on all the fun! :cool2:

@Yellowstonetim I like the same things about OUAT with one exception. Namely, what they did with Red. I hated that story. It was too much of a shift from the original story.

I don't mind the relationship between Mr. Gold and Belle, but rather the fact that Mr. Gold is both Rumblestiltskin and the Beast.

-----

As much as I'm looking forward to Season 4, I'm concerned. Overall, Season 3 was a dud. It had its moments, but lacked the creativity and complexity of the first two seasons. The first two seasons, you never were sure who you could trust. There was always another twist awaiting the storyline. This season, however, was fairly straightforward. The first half strayed from the formula of OUAT by hardly spending any time at all in Storybrooke, and with only a few people in Neverland, character development was severely stifled. In the second half, the rendition of the Wicked Witch of the West was poor and unconvincing. There were more Storybrooke characters back into the story, but the story's complexity pales in comparison to the first two seasons.

IMHO, anyone who is interested in getting into OUAT, you can watch the first two seasons, skip the third and let the stories in the next season fill in the gaps.

You are welcome! One thing you could do is watch the pilot and 1 or 2 shows of season 1 and see what you think. Also, if you can find them, ABC did hour long summary shows of season 1 and 2 that were pretty good. I'd watch season 1, and then if you don't have time, the summary shows of seasons 2 and 3. I am sure there will be some reruns and at least a season 3 summary late summer. They may even do a summary of the whole show so far.

Haha! To each his own, I love what they did with Red. Its my favorite. It was so twisted and serious. I loved her Grandman/aunt or whoever she was. What an ending, too.

Agree about Gold being the beast and Rumple.

I think season 3 was too complex in some ways with the convoluted back and forth from on realm to another. I agree about the creativity. But they get stuck with the storylines they have created. I liked "Wicked" myself and thought it saved the season.

I would agree about which to watch. I think season 1 is most important to watch, 2 is second, and 3 the least important.

But I still love it for the twists, turns, possibilities, and that I still don't know what will happen next.

I heartily agree with practically everything you mentioned (and really like your signature), but if you think TOS was perfect, well I have two words for you - Spock's Brain :scared1: !

Thanks, but you must understand, I was less than 10 when I first saw Star Trek. It was perfect. ;)

Lol, I considered using the "to each his own" line myself. In addition to my main complaint about Red, I had seen something somewhere (I forget what) shortly before that episode aired with a very similar story. So that took away the impact it could have had for me.

Despite what I said about season three, I'd have to concur that the Oz story twist saved the season.

For the new season, the question I have is will Elsa be gone after midseason (or the full season) or will she stay as a regular (or at least stick around as a recurring character)? I'm not impressed with the short-term major antagonist they did this season. The show could benefit from a prolonged antagonist, like Cora somehow being brought back to life.

The producers have said that, like the movie Frozen, Elsa won't be evil, just misunderstood. With the current popularity of the movie, adding her character should boost the show. Seems to me that given that fact, they should keep her around for additional seasons, if the show makes it that far.

If I was them, I would hint at Frozen for the first several shows, then include a story line, not every week, but every so often, sometimes just very small parts, sometimes a whole storyline. This way they wouldn't overdo Frozen and Frozen fans would have to watch every week to see if there would be something.
:happytv:

I have thoroughly enjoyed OUAT, however, I feel like it has to come to a close soon. It got incredibly repetitive for a bit there at the beginning of Season 3.

Elsa should make it an interesting twist for a little while anyway. I feel like OUATs best episodes were the ones where each episode centered around the reveal of another character. Would like it if they would get back to that.

One question:

Does she destroy the bottle so there is no returning to captivity, or no returning to the past life or what? OK 3 questions.
