Today a Florida appeals court ruled the law prohibiting homosexuals from adopting in the state is unconstitutional!!! It's about time!!

There was a discussion on the boards about this a while back and I couldn't believe that Florida could have an arcane law like that.............well no more. :) Hopefully it won't get appealed and will stick!! :wizard:

Yay! :woohoo:

Well it is about time. Never could understand not allowing some child to have a loving home just because of someone sexual orientation.

I just saw that and immediately thought of that thread awhile back. What a blessing for the children in need of loving homes!!!

I completely agree!! When I saw this on World News I immediately thought of the previous thread. Definitely a step in the right direction!:goodvibes

That is wonderful news! No one should be kept from loving a child if that is in their heart to do so!!!

Good news. I imagine it will be appealed unfortunately as these things always are.

This is fantastic news!!!!! I'm so excited for all of the children who are going to find loving homes because of this.

True, but it's a good start.

Yes it is. One of these cases (this one, prop 8, some other case) has to make it to the supreme court so they can make a nationally binding ruling. I'm a big fan of the 10th amendment, and think it is perhaps the most underused of them all, but in this case there has to be a federal ruling IMO. Civil rights can't be a state issue.

You'd have though we learned that in the 60's.

There are so many children that need loving parents and good homes...this is good news

I couldn't agree more. If two happy well-adjusted adults can provide a safe and loving home to a child, it shouldn't matter their gender.

Unfortunately, I'm sure the State of Florida is primed and ready for a massive appeal.

They will spend a lot of time, energy and taxpayers money to knock down this ruling

AND

If they don't suceed - I'm sure they will turn the adoption process into a 3 ring circus for any gay couple trying to adopt a child.

"Hell hath no fury like a state government scorned"

Sadly, I think you are probably right.

Does anyone know if the ban was in place only for state adoptions or did this cover private as well (atty, parent(s), child, no state involvement)?

Maybe I'm being too hopeful but I would really love for all US residents or global residents for that matter to have equal rights, whether it be adoption, marriage, employment, etc.

I hope the state will lose their ridiculous appeal not spend too much of FL residents' hard-earned money fighting this ruling.

What a great start. Praying that all of the children in FL can be adopted into loving homes and that other states follow suit. Praying it does not get overturned.
