Hi all - I don't know whether to be happy or sad, but I finally have a preliminary diagnoses about my DD's knee. She is nearly 9. And I needed to share it somewhere. I hope it's welcome here.

After a lot of regular xrays we finally convinced the Dr to allow an MRI. From the MRI it's been diagnosed as Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) which is a relatively rare, but treatable, joint disorder where cracks form in the knee bone and catrlidge. We have an "emergency" appointment with the Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist/Surgeon on Monday morning. From MRIs it looks at little advanced but because of her age it should be ok. DD will have exploratory surgery when we return from our trip. And then decisions will be made on future treatments.

Regardless of what happens dancing will out for quite a while, if not almost forever and so will physical activity other than swimming, walking, and other gentle stuff.

We still have other battles with emotional/psychological. Though the knee problem is worse than expected I feel some sense of relief to finally be getting answers. Thank you for letting me share.

I don't have anything to share about OCD, but I can sense your relief in finally having a solid diagnosis. My DD17 is a serious dancer, but has always struggled with hip issues. Each time her hip acts up, we never know for sure what it is and waiting for the ortho visit is so stressful. I'm glad you have a diagnosis and a path to follow, even if it's scary at times... at least you are moving in a positive direction!
