I know there are others out there who have seen this.

I'm curious to know what people thought of the movie. And more curious to know if you are a fan of the comics, what did you think, vs if you only know the X-men from these movies.

So that I make sure I have enough text in here to not show any spoilers in mouse over, I'm gonna scroll down a few lines

There

Okay, here are my thoughts. I'm a fan of the comics, and of the cartoons that I think were out in the 90s and most recently have been replayed on Toon Disney. I used to role-play in the X Universe, so I'd say I'm fairly well versed in the stories and characters.

Because of that, I don't think I enjoyed the movie as much as I would have if I weren't a fan of the comics.

I loved Colossus and Kitty, and think they did okay with Warren. Some stuff with Beast was good, but he just didn't look like *Beast* to me.

I didn't recognize most of the Brotherhood at all, either, until Magneto named them. For example, who was the mutant-senser? Is she canon, or someone made up for the movies? Spike I think was made for the movie, wasn't he?

I'm not really happy with the way they handled the Phoenix thing, personally. I like the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix stories from the comics much better. But I did like their approach to the mutant "cure".

Loved the showdown between Bobby and Pyro! And Kitty's solution to getting ahead of Juggernaut.

Mystique, as always, did an excellent job. As did Logan.

And I liked their take on Jamie / Multiple Man, even though I remember him being a hero, not a villian.

So here's a question... did Jean/Phoenix actually kill Scott? Or are we likly to see him return next movie as well?

I'm so glad that I read the recommendation here to stay until after the end credits!

I think my favorite part in the movie, though, was the family who locked the car doors after Magneto moved the bridge, and the amused smirk on Magneto's face.

Obviously, they left it open to have Magneto's powers (and everyone else who took the "cure") return, but I'm in some ways wanting to see other villians brought into the movies. I'd like to see Sinister, or Apocalypse brought in.

Two questions... Where was Kurt?? I'm surprised he didn't return this show. And I could have sworn Remy / Gambit was supposed to be in the movie...

Glad to see this post. I know NOTHING of the comics, and I was disappointed by this movie. I felt like they opened up so many cool new characters (for example: Angel) and then didn't really give enough info on them. I thought this movie needed about 2 more hours to get everything in that should have happened. Was the actual storyline pretty accurate regarding Dr. Grey? Like, did she really go bad and kill Xavier in the comic books?

Anyway, overall I was VERY disappointed. OH and what happened after the credits?? DH said he had read there was nothing at the end, so we left! Man that makes me mad!

As someone who has been listening to rumors of an X-Men movie for about, oh maybe 20 years, I'm very happy with these movies. I think the casting has been excellent. And the storylines, while a little simplistic since there isn't as much time to develop in a movie, have been excellent as well.

I know it's hard to get so many characters into a movie - there just isn't enough time. Colossus didn't even speak, did he? But I would love to see more movies.

The Dark Phoenix was a bit of a let down - she did so much more in the books, and here all she did was stand next to Magneto. :confused3

All in all - I give it :thumbsup2

I've read quite a bit ABOUT the comics in people's feelings about the movies. I would ahve to agree with the ones who cut them some slack given the large number of comic stories and the limited number of movies.

I thought X3 was good, but the weakest of the three movies. Best special effects and action, worst story line. I simply didn't get into the whole Pheonix thing depsite their trying to pull me in. I got to the point where I just wanted them to cut away from Pheonix and get back to the others. The cure thing was interesting, but IMO, not done well enough to make me care. The whole story line with Brian Cox in X2 was much better IMO.

I think the movie was made very well for the fans. If you didn't know the X-Men comic books, then you were going to be a little lost. Fans like me would see the Angel and think, "Oh look, it's Warren. Neat!" And we already knew that he had probs with his dad.

And the Danger Room sequence at the beginning of the movie - the robot head that rolls into view is a Sentinal - a mutant-hunting robot - that fans know about but others don't.

I know the movie is hard to understand for non-fans, and I understand that they should have tried to make it understandable, but as a fan I was really happy with it.

I read the X-Men in the late 80's and early 90's and had a long conversation with some of my siblings at a BBQ on this movie. I didn't like the way Dark Phoenix became an alter personality of Jean's. That is totally different from the comics. My sister and I clearly remember Dark Phoenix loving being married to Scott, not killing him. Also I didn't think Rogue gave up her powers. To me, Storm was too much of a wimp in all the movies.

I liked the first 2 movies better than this one. I think it is just like a movie based on a book. You spend the movie analyzing how it is different from the book.

Although I do love Hugh Jackman!!!

Aurora -- the Phoenix story in the comics is totally different than what was shown in the movies. Or almost, anyway. In the comics, the Phoenix is another entity entirely that takes over Jean to save the universe from an enemy from another part of the galaxy. She does return as the Dark Phoenix, pretty much fused with Jean, who does turn evil. However, I don't remember her killing Xavier in the comics. And it wasn't Magneto she joined, it was another group of villians that hasn't been introduced in this series. And she sure didn't kill Cyclops / Scott in the comics! Eventually, the X-men are able to defeat the Dark Phoenix in the comics, though I'll have to dig out my book to find out how again. ;)

To see what happened after the credits, highlight below:
Okay, you remember when Xavier was lecturing to the students about ethics? He paused a video clip that showed a vegetable that was being cared for by Dr Moira McTaggart and was speaking about the question of if it was ethical to transfer a consciousness from a terminal body to the body of a vegetable. Well, after the end credits, the focus on that man and Moira checking his stats, and the man speaks. He says "Hi Moira", and Moira turns to him in shock and goes, "Charles?" The implication being that Charles Xavier transferred his consciousness from the body that Jean was about to destroy to the body of the vegetable in Moira's care.
