I have been watching flights from Portland to MCO since early Dec. for next Nov. Prices were crazy. I had some United miles but the round trip offerings were awful so early on I used most of my miles to book first class on US Airways for the return trip. I got a great mid day departure (so DME doesn't have to pick me up at the crack of dawn) and I still get the free checked bag and early boarding that I would get on a United flight. (I have their credit card.)

The United flights for the southbound flight were either way too expensive or terrible times. I didn't want to arrive at MCO at 11:30 PM. I thought I was going to have to go with Jet Blue when their schedule comes out. Jet Blue is fine, but I pay for the perks with my United card. Finally, yesterday United had a fare I could live with. Under $200 and getting me into MCO at 2:15 PM.
I should stop looking now so I don't get upset if the fare drops more.

Do you get your free checked bag on US Airways with your United card?? Sorry Im not sure if I was reading that correct? I have a United card and have been looking at US Airways flights and if I can get a free checked bag i would definately go for it!

If you are speaking about a United Chase card, no. The free checked bags are for United flights only, paid with the card:

http://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/travel/baggage/chasebag.aspx

OP will get 2 free checked bags because he/she is booked in first class for the outbound trip.

FYI, effective March 30, 2014, US Airways and United will no longer be partners. US Airways is leaving the Star Alliance.

As another poster said, the free bag and priority boarding that are perks of the United card do not transfer to other airlines, even if you book with United miles. But I used my United miles to book a first class seat and there are similar perks that go with the first class.
