Finally ditching satellite TV: opinions on YouTubeTV?

No. What I was saying is that Bally was not part of our Cable package so the YouTube was an equal in that respect. As far as I know Bally is it's own streaming service. Guys in house said it is simply not worth it. Most of what they want they can get on YouTube (and previously cable) and they'd be buying just for soccer games. Now that MLS made the Apple deal it is a much better deal.
Thanks for the clarification. I'm trying to get my NHL team. My only option for that is Spectrum, unfortunately.

We have been DirecTV customers since 2006, but only kept it the last 5+ years due to Sunday Ticket. Now that Sunday Ticket is moving to YouTube, there is no need for us to spend like $200 per month on TV.

YouTubeTV is "only" $64.99, and since YouTube will have Sunday Ticket rights, it only makes sense to us to switch. I already use YouTube a lot for video content in general.

Do you have YouTubeTV? Do you like it? What are some pitfalls? I know there is 1 hyper-local channel we won't be able to get, but we can watch on their app, so it's not the end of the world. Plus we only use that channel for the news anyway.
I was an original adopter so I’ve had it a good number of years, this when it was a crazy low amount -which they honored for a while …in reality $64.99 isn’t all that bad for what they provide. I can honestly say there have been little to no issues and none the last couple years -it simply works. When I first signed up customer service was fantastic -I’m talking unbelievably good …can’t say now since I’ve never needed to contact them. Picture quality is super and they offer a 4K add-on but there isn’t much on there except big games …this isn’t really their fault as networks just don’t provide 4K content. But the stuff I’ve seen in 4K is great -mostly football games. DVR is great and works flawlessly …record everything -they’ll hold it for 9-months!

Go for it -you won’t regret it….

Because the shows aren't on the YouTube servers. They're regular shows on regular channels (CBS or HBO or whatever) that air when the show airs. As others have said, YouTube TV is a replacement for cable/satellite, not a version of YouTube.
Thanks that makes sense. Sorry if my question seemed obtuse. I guess I understand if it is live sports or live news it would operate similar to traditional Cable. For 90% of the channels though why on earth does it need to operate like traditional cable? That is the part I don't understand. Probably they just do it because that is what people are used to.

Because that is still how tv channels work.

YouTubeTV does not give you access to stream all content in the world, only content that is shown by the channels, only after recorded, only after it has been shown.

This. Why on earth would CBS give YouTube TV the ability to show all the episodes of Big Brother or Survivor that haven't aired yet? Or why would HBO allow them to show a hot new movie that HBO has exclusive broadcast rights for, before all the other HBO subscribers get to see it? YouTube TV doesn't own any content. They license it from broadcasters, same as any cable or satellite service does.

Didn't know that. Seems like they would have chosen a different name for their service to avoid confusion. I thought it was just another of those internet TV things. Other comments make it sound like you can only watch somehting AFTER it has already appeared on the original network. So it sounds more like a DVR type service compared to regularly scheduled TV programs.

Yeah, I can see how the name could be confusing. It's exactly the same as cable with a DVR. You can watch a show live as it airs. You can pause it and rewind/fast forward. You can DVR it and watch it later. Or if you didn't record it, some shows have the option to watch after the fact as Video on Demand (with mandatory commercials that you can't fast forward through). Because there's no limit to the DVR space, we generally just record everything that looks mildly interesting.

I think the name was chosen for name recognition. So many people already know YouTube.

YouTubeTV is just another one of those internet TV things. It just happens that many think it is the best. While I have the option to watch live TV, I rarely do, because I record so, so, much. By watching a recorded show I don't have to deal with commercials.

Not a fan of commercials and watching TV live. I've been streaming since Netflix started offering the service. Once you stop seeing commercials, your life will be so much more complete.

I signed up a few months ago. I've found it very useful. It provided all the channels that I needed live and the few that my streaming options didn't already cover; and cancel ones that did overlap. unless I'm missing something, I don't like they don't have a future guide of listings; just their live listings or I have to search on the show to check the upcoming shows. I had to download TV Guide app for a better guide.

I currently have Hulu Live, but I did use Youtube TV in the past and liked it. Both options are way better than cable.

We cut cable a year ago and went to YouTubeTv and it has been great. There's a few channels that we no longer have, but overall that's ok. We still have Netflix and Disney+.
