Well, I debated and debated and finally booked a short trip this evening! All thanks to all of you wonderful people! I really could not decide what to do because I know that I could not leave her since I would go crazy and not enjoy my trip but I was really worried about having a baby at the parks. BUT...after reading all of the great info on the Dis, I have decided to take the plunge! I must admit I am a little nervous about the plane ride and all of the things I have to remember to take but I really think it will be well worth it. We aren't going until February so I have some time to get myself prepared! I'm also hoping by that time she will no be breastfeeding nearly as much so that will be one less worry. I'm so excited and just a little nervous too :)

Going with a baby is great, and a great time to get awesome pics with the characters..they love babies. The fact that you are breastfeeding is great..and much easier than carrying around bottles.
Another way to make things easier is to ship down a box of things you need, like diapers and snacks, ahead of time to the resort.

Congrats!! You will have a blast!! We've taken our kids as babies several times and it was easy!! In fact in many ways an 11 month old is easier than a preschooler! :sunny:

It's a lot easier that it sounds at first. We took my daughter to Disneyland at 3 months and 7 months and we're going to Disney World next month at 9 months. We had a great trip on both of our CA vacations and are expecting the same for FL. Have a great trip!

Hi,
this will be our 6th trip but Joshua's 1st trip in just under 3 weeks time. :cool1: He will have just turned 13 months. We just can't wait as we have waited 3 years to come again as Joshua was only just over a month old last year when we normally go and the previous 2 years before that we were TTC for a baby so didn't want to book anything just incase I got pregnant and could not go. So we just booked last minute holidays to either Gran Canaria or Tenerife for relaxing holidays but we missed Florida so much! :guilty:
Well the time is almost here for us to go and to be honest I was a little worried about the flight as for us it is 9.5 hours from London Gatwick but I think we'll be fine. We have got Joshua his own seat for which Virgin provide an infant care chair which is basically like a car seat which fits into the plane seat. We have all got seat back tv's on the plane so Josh can watch the cartoons! This weekend we are going to buy some cheap little toddler toys and give him one of these about every hour so he has something different to keep him amused also he will probably sleep for a couple of hours early on into the flight and hopefully a couple of hours before we land, which to him will be his bedtime as you guys are 5 hours behind us!
I think the biggest challenge will be getting him to adjust to the time difference!
We are taking our own stroller so him can nap in there in the afternoons and are just going to take it at our own pace.
He adores Mickey Mouse and Winnie The Pooh and Tigger so just seeing his face light up when he sees them is what it's all about for us and just seeing Disney through a childs eyes.
Congratulations on booking the trip and if you would like I can let you know when we get back how we got on.

Take care :wave2:

Oh, you will have a wonderful time! We took our two girls last year when our youngest was 12 1/2 months old or so. She had so much fun exploring (she was walking) and loved the characters - at that age, they are fearless. She even rode the Haunted Mansion with us while our scaredy-cat 4 year old stayed behind :) She napped great in her stroller and was wonderful on the plane - just bring lots of snacks and distractions.

We are going in Feb. too :) :) :)

You'll have a great time!! We took our oldest on his first birthday and we took our youngest when he was 10 months old. Of course they won't remember it, but who cares?? THey had a great time and we did too!!

Congrats on your trip and have a BLAST with that baby!! :cheer2: We took our youngest when she was 10 mos and it was one of our best trips. She rode in her stroller or we put her in the snuggly and it was very easy. We have so many great memories of that trip. She was a trooper and hung right in there with the rest of us. Just threw in some baby food jars, diapers and I was nursing her so always had milk available. Have a wonderful vacation :)

I would love to hear how your trip goes once you return! It's so nice to hear that I'm not the only one! Of course you have much further to come than I do so I have no excuse! We are from Pittsburgh, PA and the flight to Orlando is aroun 2 hours. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. It sounds like you have everything all planned out and organized! Have a terrific time and please let me know how everything goes!

Betsy

No problem at all! :thumbsup2
Will post on this thread as soon as I can, going for 2 weeks

Just in the process of washing and ironing all the summer clothes and trying to pack as we are well into winter here and temps are around 8 degrees in the day but the past couple of nights have been -1/2 degrees and cold!
Can't wait to get my shorts back on in that Florida sunshine! :cool1: :cool1:

Take care,

Karina

BetsyWDW, we went in Sept. with our DD who was 14-1/2 mo. She LOVED it!!! It is definitely hard to pack for and I definitely overpacked. Are you going to hold her on the plane or take her carseat?

If you take her carseat, I'd like to make a suggestion. We purchased a little buggy called "gogokidz travelmate". It attaches to the carseat so you can roll it through the airport. It does have to detach before latching in plane seat but only took DH about a minute. Having this eliminates the need for a stroller in the airport and you can check your stroller with luggage. This will give you one less thing to keep up with when going through security. I wish we had known because with 3 kids, stroller, carseat, etc. it was a mad house trying to get through.(and DD never used her stroller in the airport, she liked riding in her carseat) Have a great trip, she will LOVE it!!!!

KristiKelly,
Thanks so much! I really like the idea of checking the stroller and using the carseat on wheels. We were just talking last night about whether to do the carseat or not. We are renting a car once we are there so we have to have a carseat for her. This is too cool! You all are so helpful and I'm so glad that we have a place like the Dis to get such great info. Thanks so much!!!

Taking a happy breastfed baby to Disney is so easy...I'll do that over a cranky toddler/preschooler anyday. :) We live in Central FL, so we go over often...I was originally a mom who said I'd never take anyone younger than 5, dd #3 was 3 weeks on her first visit. As long as you're not planning a commando-style visit, everyone will have a great time. I find myself watching her reactions to the attractions instead of just enjoying them myself! If you have a sling or other type of baby-carrier, it makes waiting in lines easier.

We took DD at 11 months. It was so awesome. We used Enfamil. They put out a pkg that comes in individual sleeves that you add to room temp water. It was very convenient in WDW. Took a couple of bottles of spring water and added the envelope. Have fun! Take lots of pictures. Remember to let us all know how it went. If you can plan the flight take off and landing while she is hungry that will help with her ears. At least that is how the bottle feeding works, I can't speak for breastfeeding. I don't know if you use pacifiers, but they would be a big help for the ears also.

I took my nursling to DW at 12 months and it was so easy and so much fun! Yes, we nursed "around the world", but it was really no problem. There are tons of benches, rides, shows, restaurants, etc. that are perfect for nursing.

Actually, I think that was our easiest trip ever with him! He wasn't walking yet and was just content to ride around in the stroller and take it all in. He loved all the rides, the parades and shows, the characters, etc. He napped in the stroller with no problems and life was grand.

Now, at 3 years old, he has his own VERY strong opinions and the vocabulary to express them. Loudly. And, he only wants to walk. No strolling, please! Still fun, but not as simple as at 12 months!

Have fun!

I nursed my kids on many of the the dark rides! Every age is a good one to take a kid to WDW. Just let the little one set your pace and see things from her perspective. Have a great time.

I used to say 5 was the magic number too, but we are now planning on taking our 2 year old. And I am so excited to see her reactions to everything.

Hi Betsy, Thought I'd let you know how our trip went as promised. ( sorry it's long)

Fab 2 week holiday staying offsite at Marriot village, LBV, flight out from London Gatwick not too bad but Josh would not sit still longer than 5 mins, would have to strap him in his seat for eating! Thankfully the flight was only half full so Josh had the row of seats in front to have a few hours sleep on and he was also asleep on landing in his seat.
Character breakfasts at Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's were fab! :thumbsup2 Gwen, our server at Crystal Palace was so sweet and nice! Hi Gwen! :wave2:

This time we have been 22nd Nov - 8th Dec, the parks have been much busier than other years and we always go the same time each year. Even the week after Thanksgiving we thought some of the parks especially Magic Kingdom were busy.

First haircut at Magic Kingdom barber shop was great! Got some great video of the whole thing and great pictures, we had Janet and she was so kind and lovely to Josh. He sat still the whole time and everyone watching commented how good he was! Janet said he was too good!!

Babycare centres in all the parks were great especially Magic Kingdom although even at Seaworld the one there was really good!
Took advantage of the centres and used them mostly for using the microwaves as we would buy Gerbers lil entrees meals from walmart and heat them up there.

Josh would go to sleep happily in his stroller but we would know when we would have to leave the park and go back to the hotel.

Although now comes the bad part....

Last Weds morning, the day we fly home, we got up and started to pack but josh was not himself at all and crying a little but had some oatmeal and a beaker of milk for breakfast when 15-20 mins after started to be violently sick and had Diaorrhea :guilty:.
This went on throughout the morning as we were packing and he had to have 3 changes of clothes and a wash each time. We checked out at midday and I rode in the back of the car with josh to watch him where he started to be sick again in his car seat, so DH had to quickly pull over so I could unbuckle josh and get his head forward! Now I kept saying to my DH that there is no way he can fly like this on a 9 hour flight back to the UK. So I went into Walmart and spoke with the pharmacist and he gave me directions to a medical centre down the road. Anyhow took Josh there where he was seen by a doctor who said he was unfit to fly how he was. He gave him an injection to stop the vommiting but made him sleepy almost straight away. By this time I am in bits as all you moms can imagine, I just want to be at home where he can see his own doctor and be in our own home. So DH had to re-arrange car hire for and extra 2 days as well as 2 more nights at the hotel and re-arrange the flight and call his work to say he would not be in work on the Friday. Anyway next day Josh seemed ok, vommiting stopped apart from diaorrhea and eating and drnking a little when my DH comes down with the same thing! Friday comes and Josh is again violently sick in the hotel but only the once, DH still feels ill but has stopped vommiting etc and we chance the flight home. We go back to the medical centre to get Josh released and Doctor gives him a check over again and we go on our way. We land back at London Gatwick in 7 hours due to a good tailwind behind us, another 2 hours getting through customs and getting baggage and car etc and another 2 hours home. Think we are getting over most of our troubles when Josh gets a high fever Sat night and yet again is violently sick all over DH and still has diaorrhea. I ring emergency doctor who tells us to go straight to hospital where Josh is given a once over to be told he has a viral infection, gastroenteritis and a very bad chesty cough and cold. :sad2:
It's now early Weds morning as i write this an has been a week since all this started and my darling boy is still very poorly :guilty:
There is nothing they can give him except electrolite drinks to keep the balance of his sugars and salts ok and for us to keep giving him plenty of fluids and to offer small amounts of food.
I just want my boy back to himself and would really appreciated some pixie dust and hugs for him.

All moms and dads please just be prepared for any eventuality that can happen, like I said I felt so scared and almost alone being in a different country but the doctor and nurse who saw Josh were great :thumbsup2 .

Betsy, I hope your trip goes great for you and you and your family enjoy it. Let me know how it goes for you.
This bad experience has not put us off at all as we are going same time next year this time with the grandparents, my mum and dad.

Thanks for reading

Oh my gosh Karina, I feel seo bad!!! How is your little one doing now? That's a horrible thing to deal with, let alone to be out of the country and trying to travel!

It sounds like the trip went well until he became ill. I have a feeling Eliza will be the same way on the flight. She isn't one for sitting still for very long and I really hope that our flight isn't full so that she can have some room to runaround.

I'm also glad to hear about the babycare centers. I'm not sure if I still will be nursing Eliza when we are there but even if I'm not we will still need to use them for small breaks and diaper changes.

Eliza has never been sick and just last night during the night she started vomiting and hasn't been able to keep anything down! What are the chances??? We are starting to give her pedialyte and will see how she does now that before calling the doctor.

I really hope that by now Josh is back to himself. Please let me know how he is doing. My heart just broke when I read your post. The good thing to know is that you are still ok with going back and it hasn't ruined you for traveling. That poor little guy and your DH! How awful! Please write back and let me know how you and your family are doing.

Thanks so much for remembering me and filling me in on your trip. I really appreciate it! I will be sure to let you know how things go in Februrary!

Take care and talk with you soon!

Betsy

Glad you decided to take the baby. I would take my 11 month old over my 2 1/2 year old any day. It will be tons of fun for you! Just don't forget the sunblock... you can burn even in the winter, here!
