Finally convinced my wife to stay at the campsites. We are traveling with our 30' travel trailer from NC. So far this trip will only be myself, wife, and son. I'm excited as I wanted to make a long trip with the trailer for quite some time. I have done multiple beach trips (5 hours away) and plenty of quick weekend trips. I'm not new to Disney, just to the campsites.

Booked premium site inside pet loop, bringing our dogs, for Oct 10-18. We will start our travels on Oct 9th around 3pm and drive until about 10. I am hoping to find an overnight spot near savanna GA as that is the half-way point. If I feel ok, I will keep driving as I want to be at FW at 2 or 3 for check-in.

Seeing as I am new to FW, what are somethings that I should check into. I already emailed TeeTime to reserve a cart. I hear they are making them drop them off-site. Hopefully that will be worked out by the time I get there. My wife want to go Horse back riding, and we are planning on going to the Not so Scary Halloween party as well as the Food and Wine Festival.

Any tips on the long hall or FW is greatly appreciated. Now I just need to get some ideas about decorations :D

Leaving from NC and shooting for Savannah is a great idea. I would recommend the Savannah South KOA as a possible stopping point, its just on the south side of Savannah right off 95 and US17 (exit 67). We usually dont make it that far on our southbound from N. VA, but it gets recomended a lot. Here is a list of possible I95 campgrounds in GA Depending on where in NC you are hitting the road from, 7 hours travel time could get you further which means less travel the next day or earlier stoping time.

My only tip for the long haul is don't rush. There is no reason to try rolling down the road at 80mph. I know my truck gets its sweet spot at 65-70mph which is at or under the speed limit most of the way. Just like driving a car, take a break and spend a few minutes walking around and letting your eyes and mind relax a little. Towing long haul will wear you out as you constantly check mirrors, etc.

Otherwise, check-in could not be easier these days. I highly recommend online check in. Most of your information will already be setup on your magic band, but for now everone will still get and old KTTW card to access the comfort stations (after hours for bathroom/shower and all the time for laundry.)

I will let others comment on the golf cart rental, since I own a cart I bring it down with me rather then pay someone else for rental.

Agree with jbrostek, don't rush the trip. My f-250 got it best mpg at around 72 mph.

Not sure on your distance, mine from Mississippi was about 650 miles. I left out around 11pm at night and drove through the night while wife and kids slept. Less traffic and less strain. I just drove on through about 11 hours. When we got there around 11am, I set up the camper and sent the freshly rested family on to MK. I took a 2 hour nap and then met up with them.
We didn't do the cart, we brought the bikes. Hopefully on my next trip I will load my own cart and bring down.

The Fort is amazing and has more than enough for your family to do while you are there. I would suggest you take a day or two from the parks and utilize the Fort for relaxing and looping. Maybe a day you set aside for DTD where you can do both.

Safe travels and keep us posted.
