Hi everyone. After 7 trips to WDW staying in economy and moderates, we're finally going to stay in one of the deluxes. WooHoo! I'm really excited but want to make sure I pick the right one. We've been saving for this one for quite a while. We are two adult women (sisters) who love adventure and adore the "magic" of Disney. Are any of the resorts more suited to adults? Don't get me wrong, we love seeing the kids enjoying themselves but we are looking for something a little more for us grownups. I love Boardwalk, sis loves AK. We plan to attend in October for the Food and Wine Festival or MNSSHP. Walking is not a problem as it's one of our favorite pasttimes.
Any other overgrown kids out there like us

... at Epcot, I'd recommend staying at Boardwalk Inn. You'll be able to walk over to Epcot anytime you like, have all the restaurants at the Boardwalk and Epcot resorts nearby and be able to hop on the ferry (or walk!) to MGM too! IMO, Boardwalk Inn is the most adult of the resorts at Disney -- it has a very different feel to it than many of the others I've visited. It seemed quiter, more refined, more relaxing and simply more sophisticated when my mom and I looked at it during our last visit (we didn't stay there, however, so I can't vouch for it 100%)... Other resorts I've stayed at and enjoyed are WL, BCV and BWV. For an adult stay, I would defintely recommend being nearer the more adult-oriented parks (Epcot and MGM) unless you're a complete diehard MK fan (like me!!!!!), in which case perhaps WL or GF would be best. I'd avoid Poly (looked very outdated and run down to me during my last few visits) and Contemporary (theming isn't very exciting and it isn't worth the deluxe price, imo)... Another option is AKL, if this kind of atmosphere would appeal to you (sounds like it would to your sister if she loves AK!). The disadvantage is that it's off by itself and might not be as much fun as staying in the thick of things near the Boardwalk. Guess you and your sister will have to decide what appeals to both of you most! It's great that there are so many wonderful options, though, isn't it??!!?? And I'm sure you'll have a GREAT time no matter where you stay!

If you don't mind my asking, which of the moderates was your favorite? We're thinking of staying one night at CBR before our next BCV trip in May and wondered if this would be a good choice... Let me know if you've stayed there and what you thought of it!! :)

Take care,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I think you're right about Boardwalk. I didn't realize you could walk to MGM as well as Epcot. That's fantastic. We love to walk and this would be a huge bonus for us.
We have stayed at the CBR pre-renovations and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was very nice and I thought the rooms were pretty. Most people want to stay close to the food court building but we did just the opposite and stayed far out in the quieter "villages". There was a lovely little beach with hammocks and every morning you could sit out there and watch the ducks and turtles while you rested in the hammock.
We also enjoyed the tropical music they play throughout the resort and it reminded me of our trips to the Caribbean. It made the walk from our room to the food areas very pleasant but watch out for those crazy birds with the long black beaks lol. They were always on the hunt for food. (little food dispensers so you can feed them are scattered throughout the resort).
We were a little disappointed with the dining choices however. But it wasn't really that big a deal as we try and experience lots of the restaurants at WDW and always like to try new places. And I hear they've gotten a newer/better sit down restaurant in the resort.
The shop was nice however and there were plenty of snacks/drinks available to bring back to the rooms. The CM's were very nice to us when we told them we were pin traders and kept us abreast of any gossip regarding the pin. A couple even went so far as to call other CM's at the pin stations and have them hold some for us.
Based on my experience there, I'd recommend the CBR. It was wonderful.
Please let me know if you have any specific questions that I might be able to answer for you. Enjoy!- Nancy

CBR sounds great from your description! I'd really like to stay at one of the more remote villages, but with a newborn, 2 other kids under the age of 8 and my mother (who doesn't like a lot of walking!), I figure we probably ought to stay fairly near all the activities! Most people seem to recommend Martinique for convenience, but I've also heard good things about Jamaica and Aruba. Do you know how far a walk these would be from OPR?

Is CBR your favorite moderate overall? Which others have you tried??

One place I forgot to mention in my last post that seems really nice and is a bit more "adult" in atmosphere is YC. They seem to have more adults staying there than BC. I personally love YC/BC and thoroughly enjoyed my 15th wedding anniversary trip with dh in September (we stayed at BCV). We'll be returning with the rest of the family in May -- can't wait!! I guess the reason I didn't mention YC before is that I associate it with BC, which is a real family resort... I think staying at YC would work out great for you and your sister, though, because it really is more adult-oriented.

Thanks again for your reply,
Sarah

Can you split it with an AKL stay, your sis might enjoy that. It will be easy to move since it will just be the two of you. Have a great time with your sister.

I vote for the BWI, too. I stayed there in 1999. It is a lovely resort. Our room looked out over a quiet courtyard - we were on the ground level floor with a patio area. The best is its location - walk to Epcot and MGM, many restaurant choices and the bus service to MK and DTD was excellent. The theme of this resort is superb. I really enjoyed going out to the Boardwalk in the early morning and just watching the "world" wake up.

You know....we've always toyed with the idea of splitting resorts but wondered if it would be too much of a disruption. I think it's a great idea this time though because then we'd both get to try the one we like. Considering we drove through Ireland and stayed at a different B&B every night, switching from one resort to the next shouldn't really be a challenge lol. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We're booking this week and I know my sis will love that suggestion.

Sarah,
I'm afraid that CBR is the only moderate I've stayed at. I've always gone economy before that.
The walk from the remote villages was around 5 minutes or so at a nice leisurely pace. The path is very pretty, first going by the beach then through a tropical "rainforest" type of setting. Over a pretty wood plank bridge and past the main pool and bar area. I could see how it would be quite a hike for someone who's not physically up to walking any long distances. Considering that, it probably would be more convenient for you to stay closer. But hey, seeing that you have mom with you, you could always leave the kids and take a romantic stroll with your DH through the grounds. It was very, very pretty at night. - Nancy

I would opt for the Yacht or the Beach Club. You can easily walk to Epcot from either and the pool is the best pool on property. Well worth the "price of admission".

from AKL and loved it!!!!

Not a huge resort so never seemed too busy....and it was full because of Christmas/New Years etc... No crowds on the buses and never more than a 10 minute wait for a bus. I commented to my husband that although I saw children in the resort...I never heard them, not once. Basically only knew they were there by their visibility at the pool!

A very quiet resort with great restaurants and magnificant views.Everyone should stay there at least once.

Another vote for the YC/BC here!!:teeth: The YC is our favorite resort. You can walk to both Epcot or MGM, and the Boardwalk is a short walk as well.

Since you will be there during the Food and Wine Festival, an Epcot resort might prove to be the most convenient for you. :):):)

PS I'm an overgrown kid myself!!:teeth:

Not to get off track but......I wish so much that I had a sister.
We could ditch our Husbands for a week and tour together.
You are so lucky.

I have had 4 WDW visits with my DH, and seeing that he
*hates* to travel, I have now had 4 WDW trips solo. I have always had a great time solo, but I often wish I had a sister.

For you, I would choose YC / BC, or The Boardwalk, or even
Swan / Dolphin.

Have Fun !!

If you are going to stay at the BC/YC I would suggest the YC. I have heard the YC is better for adults only.

Another vote for the YC :D !

DH and I stayed there (without the children) for our anniversary trip in November. We just fell in love with the resort - it is now our favorite. The place is beautiful, quiet, relaxing, and so convenient to Epcot and MGM.

Hope you have a great trip, wherever you decide to stay!

I'd stay at BWI because of the location. Nothing wrong with AKL, but it's far away from everything. At BWI you are already at the Boardwalk and you can walk to Epcot, and Epcot is more adult-oriented than other parks. You can also walk to MGM from there, I think, but if not it's just a short boat ride. I didn't think I'd like Ecpot but I LOVED it. You won't be sorry if you go with BWI.
