Ok guys

So it's not long to go now and I know a lot of us are getting into the 10 day taper madness stage :) so I was just wondering what everyone plans to do in the last 10 days leading up to the race, any rituals that help you get through? Any last minute things to help your body and mind prepare? Do you run the day before a few miles? Or do you take the day off before? Do you carb deplete then load? Of do you stick to your regular diet? Just curious how everybody is going to pass these days!

See you all soon

Well, I leave for WDW in a week, so there's all the last minute planning/packing/fretting, etc that goes into that.

I always plan out my outfits ahead of time, making sure that everything fits OK and pack lots of everything just in case.

I'll do a half marathon training run on Friday and that will be it before race day. I will get plenty of walking in the days before the races, but will try and take it as easy as I can.

I try to eat pretty clean and dial back the caffiene starting a week before, otherwise I don't really do any depletion or loading. (In between races is a different story... I really up the protein and carbs).

In terms of mental preparation, I try not to sweat it. I've done it before and everything will be just fine..... at least that's what I keep repeating to my undertrained self. I really don't put the "game face" on until I'm walking to the corrals.

I'm interested in hearing how everyone else copes too!

Here's my plan:

Running - 5 today, 5 tomorrow, 10 on Saturday, 4 on Monday, 3 on Wednesday. I figure I'll get enough movement walking through airports and the Expo that I don't need to run on Thursday or Friday next week.

Eating - I always start slowly building carbs a week or ten days out. I've found that adding a bit more good carbs (brown pasta/rice) over time helps me more than trying to do a massive load a day or two before a race. Still going out for a good pasta dinner on Friday though. :)

Other - yoga on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday to get everything stretched and loosened up one last time before the race.

For me it's a monster leg workout on Friday 1/1 (ugh) followed by a tempo run on Sunday. (depletion). I keep the diet balanced and light and do not celebration the new year with a drink.

I will run a couple recovery runs early in the week before coming over to the mouse house.

I trimmed the toes for the last time last night.

I will run 3-5 miles on Friday morning from the resort. BLT Folks - it starts at 5 am! I keep the pace variable. Mostly varying from catching myself running at 5k pace and pulling the pace back.

Hi all,

I will start drinking more water and G2 for the next week. Not go overboard but just make sure I stay hydrated. Food wise I won't change much until probably Thursday dinner. Then I'll watch what I eat for the next few days closely. No salad, less fiber, etc.

I will run 10 miles tomorrow or Friday then just a few 3 - 5 mile runs next week. On Friday morning I will run 5K. I'll try to keep it slow like Charles says but it can be tough. Last year I went way too fast for the 5K at Animal Kingdom. Should have saved my legs for the timed events :)

I'll cross train a few days with weights like I always do but will stretch a lot more and use the foam roller every day until the race.

Trim toe nails, get a haircut ( so I look good in my pictures), watch every step I take so I don't fall and hurt myself :) Softball starts next week so I need to be careful. I'll also start taking Echinacea up till about Wednesday. I do this before all trips.

I will start getting my stuff ready next week. We have company until the 3rd so I can't start getting everything out yet.

enjoy this time, you've earned it!

Mentally, I'm flirting with getting fired since I'm spending all my work time obsessing over this gosh-darn race!

Training wise, I have a new metatarsal/tendon issue, so I've skipped my weekday runs this week. I'm going to attempt a 9-miler this Saturday (1/2) and depending on how the foot feels, I will either do a couple 2-mile easy runs -- or none -- during the week. As if I needed something else to worry about as I go into my first marathon!

Just to clarify, no salad? Why's that? Too much fiber?

Keep it (fiber) constant - do not increase it. I would only decrease fiber on the last couple days.

Consider not running this weekend. Better to heal a little more than push through the injury.

Agree. That is why I am not changing my diet until the Thursday of race week.

enjoy,

My plan includes lots of swimming, I have been suffering with shin splints and that is the only thing that stretches them out, think I might even swim inbetween races at the resort. I will be hydrating a lot and will put a couple of runs in, not sure how to do the carb depletion thing but I think I will stick to my usual diet with some carbs added at the end of the week!

I don't drink or have caffiene so I am good there but I try to stay away from dairy close to the race and I will stay away from fast food.

That's all I can think of right now, thanks for your input guys :)

If my head and arm allow i'll be doing a couple of 60 mile sessions, with 20's inbetween, if not i'm going in cold.

Sign me up for some of those too! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

in all seriousness I really hope you feel better soon

I'm looking at 4 and 8 sometime back to back between tomorrow and Sunday and another couple 4 milers mixed in. Most likely nothing after Tuesday as I leave for the world Wednesday and will be walking around like everyone else. (May do a 3 miler on Thursday depending on the weather)

As far as eating I really don't change any of my eating habits except I try and have pasta the night before each race and some chicken. I already drink a ton of water so I should be well hydrated.

I usually like to do 1 mile the day before the race, typically in my race shoes (which aren't the same shoes I train in)

In this case, I plan on running the half in my trainers, and the full in my normal race shoes, but assuming I do a 1 mile stretch out on Friday, it will probably be in the racing shoes.

Ha! As of today, I'm alcohol free until the races are done. After that... well... :)

Sunday will be last. Champagne tonight and then a traditional recovery beer after my last long run on Sunday. My friends no that I'll be skipping our traditional Thursday night happy hour.
I'm trying to get back down to my racing wait (I'm 5' 7, so 115-120) after holiday splurges (I'm 125). I realize that 5 lbs in one week is neither realistic (or healthy), but I'm saving the holiday candy for after the race. (I'm really aiming to be back by my Feb. races)

I have been maxing at 4 miles on the TM--will probably do that tomorrow, followed by an outdoor 6-8 miles on Sunday. Today will be a strength training day. Monday I have a session with my trainer and will likely do the elliptical at the club. Tuesday and Wednesday will likely be easy workouts on the TM. My DH scheduled a massage for Wednesday--which I am a bit nervous about, actually.

Thursday I travel. Friday I will probably "explore" the paths from POR to POFQ. Now, this one may sound a bit Goofy, but on Saturday next week I am going to do a 1/2 marathon as preparation for my full marathon on Sunday!! :rotfl:
