(Final 8/12)The WILDEST Ride in the Wilderness!" Princess Half Marathon TR/Feb.2014

Ooooh, I'm on a roll now! Look at me, three updates in less than 24 hours! ;) I wouldn't get too excited b/c this is the post where I give you very little photos and far too much talk!

So, we had checked in, changed into our suits and were headed down for some food and sun! When I was planning, I thought we would do Beaches & Cream for lunch on this day. THEN I found out they had changed to having ADR's for B&C. :headache: I get that they were having too many walkups, but with the cancellation policy I just refused to make a reservation for what I consider a CS meal and then get charged if we were late or stressed if we spent too long at DHS and weren't going to make it. I figured I would take my chances. Well, I guess my luck was out, we walked up and they told us they weren't taking ANY walkups and wouldn't have anything for a few HOURS. :sad2:

I was ok with that (until a bit later...remember this) and headed to my Plan B, Hurricane Hanna's, poolside! We had to wind our way around Stormalong Bay to get to it, it felt a bit like a maze with all the stairs going over the pool (OUCHY on my knees that were still sore) but we did make it! A little issue with our meal being given to someone else and having to wait twice as long but finally we were seated and eating a nice lunch...with the birds.

WDWPrincesshalf00490a.jpg

So the birds were crazy-begging, and the ducks were manageable, but the seagulls were swooping down and trying to divebomb people! The guy who checks room keys by the pool entrance was using a broom to shoo them away. We thought it was amusing but I'm sure if you have a fear of birds it might not be!

We were finished with our lunch and I was SO ready to enjoy this pool! We headed back into the pool area and walked...and climbed stairs (again, OUCH!!!) and searched... :rolleyes1

and couldn't find a seat. :sad2: It was 1-2ish in the afternoon on a Tuesday in February, but all the seats were taken. The layout was really confusing so I kept walking in circles trying to get to other areas, I felt like I was in a maze. We did finally find 3 seats and the girls took off to explore. I sat down to relax, I think I ordered a drink? I don't remember! I do remember falling asleep for about 30 minutes. Nice!

and guess what? I didn't bring my camera down and didn't take any photos with my phone?? I must have been delirious! When I woke, I sat trying to enjoy the pool but realized that this was not really my kind of pool. I know, right?!?! :scared1:

I think I like a more relaxing pool and in my mind I had thought it would be like AKL pool (do we see a theme here with me comparing everything to AKL???) ;) This felt like a waterpark. Really loud, really busy, crowded, and not very relaxing. :confused3

The girls came back and sat in the sun, they had fun exploring the pool and enjoyed it! Yay! I was worried I might burn since I had fallen asleep, and I thought I would let them hang out by the pool while I went up and called for our luggage, so that's where I headed. Back to the room and a phone call later they were at the door with our bags in 5 minutes! I don't even know how they could get to the room that fast, but they did! :thumbsup2

About that time, the girls called and said they wanted ICE CREAM. Your wish is my command! I grabbed the camera this time (don't get too excited, I think I was still delirious b/c I took very few photos still!) and headed back down. I thought since they were so busy, we would just do the take-away counter at Beaches & Cream. When we walked in to order, this is what I saw:
WDWPrincesshalf00494.jpg

Do you notice anything strange??? How about how there are NO PEOPLE??? Now I know it had been maybe a lapse of 2 hours (tops) since I had walked up trying to get in, but they had told me it would be at least three and acted like they were slammed. I found it interesting how empty it was. Just sayin'.

No matter, we really wanted to sit outside by the pool anyway, so we ordered and sat out at the tables right outside B&C. OH MY YUMMY!!!!!! It was so.good. Meet my brownie sundae:
WDWPrincesshalf00495.jpg

The girls got rootbeer floats, which they liked, but they both tried the brownie and wanted more of it! It was tasty! Here is Savannah finishing it! BTW, my hope is that she has no idea about this TR b/c she would kill me for posting this picture. I didn't post it on FB because she didn't like it, but since I have so few photos to show you this update, you get to see it.

It was such a gorgeous afternoon and we just sat and enjoyed watching everyone at the pool and chatted. We talked a little about the "vibe" at Beach Club...

Ready for a bit of a ramble? ;)

I grew up pretty wealthy. My father was an attorney and we lived in a very affluent area of St. Louis. I went to a private school until Jr. high and basically had a silver spoon in my mouth but didn't know it. The reason I didn't know it is because my father had not come from money and my parents were pretty down to earth. In fact, I think I spent a lot of my teen years telling them I should have things b/c "everyone else did!" that I was surrounded by. They just didn't value stuff or status the way everyone else seemed to in our area. We went on vacations all the time, ate out, and I had everything I needed, but they did try to keep me grounded.

Why am I telling you this? There's a point, I promise!

So, it colored the way I saw things. When I grew up and got married, suddenly I was thrown into the real world and didn't have money anymore. My husband didn't have a college degree and we struggled. It made me possibly a bit bitter but definitely gave me a chip on my shoulder about wealth. I found the older I got, the less I liked the people I grew up around and the more I realized that it all felt contrived and fake to me. I grew up around people who found value in THINGS, STATUS, and Names...and I just could not understand why that mattered more than kindness, thoughtfulness, and being real.

Ha! You didn't realize I was going to tell you my whole theory on my psychoanalyzed childhood and theory of wealth, did you?!?! :rotfl:

In any case...geez...

I sometimes get uncomfortable around what I perceive as "stuffiness" and I felt some of that at Beach Club. It's mostly my own perception, obviously, but the girls felt it as well. They were not as comfortable at Beach Club as they were at Pop and I agreed. When I went down to the pool, I wrapped a towel around myself and realized walking down that it just felt inappropriate to walk to the pool there like that. At Pop I wouldn't have given it a second thought. It didn't keep me from enjoying Beach Club, not at all...but this is what I do, I psychoanalyze stuff. It's just how my brain works (or doesn't work!) ;)

What's interesting to me is that I didn't feel this AT ALL at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Yep, there I go comparing again! So I don't think it's just a "deluxe" issue but more of the vibe that each resort gives.

Shew! I punish you with no photos and overly talking! Poor you! ;)

After we finished our yummy ice cream we headed back to the room and moseyed through the Breezeway and through the quiet pool to get there. I really like this area, it's lovely.

We relaxed a bit before we got ready to WALK TO EPCOT!!!!!!! :woohoo: I can tell you right now, it was the most fabulous thing to just walk to Epcot. I LOVED it! :thumbsup2

February 19th is Thursday, not 18th! :duck:

BTW, that's the Chinese New Year. Do you guys do something with Charlie on that day???

Well, not a big surprise that I'm the ding dong. I swear I picked Thursday too. Ah, well.. good news is my ticker didn't move . So it's easy to change. Hahahahaha!!!

CNY consists of eating out and dressing up. I could do it a week early and no one would know!! :) And then on actual CNY I'll dress you up in traditional Chinese silk instead. And we will find some drink to toast to Charlie. And send her a picture.

Perfect! Yes! Yes! :thumbsup2

Hmm... since I can't write my own TR, I can respond a lengthy reply to yours! :)

Beaches and Cream- I was bummed about not being able to eat there either due to crowds. When we went, it was always crowded though & never less than a 2 hour wait.

Stormalong- I never got there and just looking at it from a distance made me realize it would be very hectic and crazy if I brought kids there (trying to keep up with them). I like pools where I can sit on the side and keep an eye on them. Not have to run after them or be in the water with them (I'm a big baby about cold water! Hate it!).

The birds- Hahahaha! At Castaway Cay they are crazy. The seagulls. This one family got lunch at Cookies (it's included in price so they didn't pay extra for it).. put it down on the table and all went off together to get drinks. And no less than 15 birds descended on their food like a scene out of 'The Birds'. And I watched them come back, drinks in hand..and their mouths drop open. I just happened to be passing by when they were walking back with their drinks..and saw their reaction. Thankfully they didn't pay extra for that food- and could just go back and get more... but it was kinda funny & scary at the same time. I don't care for birds and so it would have freaked me out.

Your 'vibe' feeling was spot on, I thought, at BC. I did not grow up wealthy, but grew up with a mom who worked for United and so we could (and did) travel a lot for free..... which in turn, gave me the travel vibe which is an addiction...and now I travel WAY too much.

I felt very similar to what you felt at BC on this last Disney Cruise. Which is funny because I didn't feel that way on the Dream in 2012. But the truth is, Disney Cruises are priced (and have officially priced us out) to appeal to upper middle class to wealthy. Yes, there are many who save years to go. But there are many who fall into the category of being able to afford this yearly and are indeed- wealthy. And it shows..... I felt surrounded by entitled adults and children. Not to say my children don't act entitled (because they do too often..and I try to put them in their place!) But the level I felt on this trip was really apparent. And I often felt out of place in my Kohl's clothes & payless shoes! :) I made sure no one knew I got my flip flops at Sam's Club. Hahahaha!!! But it's funny because I know plenty of people who have money but don't act like it. But this particular cruise, to me, seemed a lot of people who had money AND acted like it. Which are really not my favorite people.

Anyways, that's my tangent. Really meaning to say "I get it".

Thank you for another wonderful update!!! You sure are on a roll now!! I was wondering about the "stuffiness" of the BC. I felt it last time we went to Cape May for dinner. Thank you for explaining it. OMG!! It was such a pleasure to meet your brownie sundae! He looks very tempting!! Ok, so keep the updates coming now!!! :hippie:

All caught up! I've been away from the boards for a bit and have a lot of reading I need to do. :)

Love the Olaf picture. We've never done the animation class before and I definitely want to do it with my girls on our January trip. Sorry for the fall though. Ouch! and Double Ouch! after running a half-marathon.

BCV looks lovely, but I can understand why it a vibe can make it less enjoyable. But, hey, now you know, right?

Yep, now I know! Actually, I still would HIGHLY consider staying there because of the access to Epcot and DHS. That was priceless and outweighed any slightly negative feelings I had about BC at all! It was SO NICE to walk to Epcot, it really made it a totally different experience!

The animation class is a lot of fun and the artist always has fun trivia and info about the movie/character that you are drawing. :thumbsup2

I'm just churning them out now! I think maybe it's b/c somewhere in my Tweedlebrain, I'm trying to beat Nicole by finishing my TR first! ;)

So, after a little rest/freshening up in the room, we headed to Epcot...ON FOOT! I cannot express enough how much I loved this. Like LOVED. Full on IN LOVE with walking to Epcot. :flower3:

I kind of knew I would love it. When we stayed offsite in 2009, we drove to Boardwalk for dinner and then walked over to Epcot and Rey & I talked about how fantastic it would be to stay at Boardwalk or Beach Club just for the access to World Showcase.

We headed down and naturally I had done my research and knew the shortcut/back way to get there. I tried to take some photos to share. So when you go out of BCV, you walk towards BC but instead of going in, you turn to the left in between them.

So if I'm facing BC and turn left, this is what I see...BC building on the right and then BCV (green, you cannot see) is on the left of this shot.

WDWPrincesshalf00500a.jpg

Here it is looking BACK at where I came from:
WDWPrincesshalf00501.jpg

You can see in that top shot above where the sidewalk ends at a T...you turn RIGHT and you see this:
WDWPrincesshalf00502.jpg

It looks like it ends at the building above, but it does not. You turn LEFT when you get to the building and a small sidewalk is there. It runs along the patios of the bottom floor rooms and will take you to a gate right on the walkway to Epcot.
WDWPrincesshalf00503.jpg

WDWPrincesshalf00504.jpg

WDWPrincesshalf00505.jpg

It sounds harder than it is and I knew it was there but had found difficult descriptions of it so I was worried at first, but it's really easy and much shorter! We were just mindful of not being too loud when walking by the patios...I don't think I would like one of those rooms.

Probably TMI for most, but I thought it would be helpful for those that didn't know it was there. :)

We zipped right through the International Gateway (have I mentioned yet how much I LOVED walking to Epcot?!?!?)

and decided to head to the UK since we had been a bit rushed on Sunday when we were there.
WDWPrincesshalf00506-1.jpg

The girls spotted the phone booth right away and wanted a photo. It's so true that the best shots are ones that people are engaged and really WANTING the shot b/c this is my favorite shot of the whole week of them. They were having so much fun!
WDWPrincesshalf2489.jpg

WDWPrincesshalf00509.jpg

The girls showed me around the shop, stopping at things they had spotted our previous day and wanted to buy. I think Eleanor did purchase a few things.
WDWPrincesshalf00511-1.jpg

WDWPrincesshalf00512.jpg

WDWPrincesshalf00513.jpg

We headed to Canada and spent a little time there, they found another penny machine and we were scrounging for quarters and pennies because we forgot to bring some. It was funny, we were so close to the resort that I just suggested we walk back over. We decided against it but still...have I mentioned how much I love how close BC is to Epcot?? ;)

My knees and my right foot were really hurting so we decided instead of walking back over to Morocco, we would take the boat. I'm honestly not sure how I was still walking this much in so much pain. I think Disney makes me push through anything and everything because I don't want to miss it...but I was in some pain. :scared:
WDWPrincesshalf00514.jpg

Savannah found more birds and insisted on taking my camera to take a photo. It came out pretty cool looking with the sun setting on the water!
WDWPrincesshalf00516-1.jpg

WDWPrincesshalf00515.jpg

Rey's favorite, had to take a shot, I missed him on this trip!
WDWPrincesshalf00517.jpg

Eleanor's favorite!
WDWPrincesshalf00518-1.jpg

and our destination:
WDWPrincesshalf00519.jpg

We arrived safely in Morocco and I was ready for my favorite CS restaurant!

Up next...a bit of drama, a bit of food, and have I mentioned how much I love walking to Epcot?!?! ;)

Man! You are churning them out aren't you? :thumbsup2

I love the shots of the girls in the phone booth. So adorable. And, I'm getting the idea you like walking to Epcot. ;)

I'm joining in, even though its late in the game! I'm all caught up too. I've only stayed at the Wyndham (right next to DTD) and Pop and love those hotels. We walked thru BC before & it's a beautiful resort, but I can see how you felt the stuffiness there. I would like to stay sometime though. Love how pretty the whole boardwalk area is & of course how close Epcot is!
To digress, I really enjoyed reading the 1st part of your TR and the princess marathon. I so admire runners, and while I love long walks (I walk 2 miles every day and can do much more but it's the time constraint why DH and I don't go longer--- two young kiddos at home w/ Gram while we walk!) I haven't been able to run. I get out of breath in 2 seconds.
Maybe one day I can start. Are their unisex marathons at Disney? I didn't recall any men in the princess marathon lol

I am loving your pictures and the insight in how to take the short cut to IG. I have never stayed at BC or BCV. YC... but that is just a bit more of a walk. (loved it there though..except there as not cs as it was under refurb..and lets be honest does hurricane Hannah's really count as cs?)

I do love entering in through IG. It is the BEST way to get into Epcot. :thumbsup2

I was on a total roll today! Now I probably won't update again for three months. :lmao:

Yep, I think I liked it just a little! ;)

Welcome! It's never too late, especially with how slow I am getting this report finished! ;)

YES! There are many unisex races! There is the Tower of Terror in October, The Wine & Dine in November, and the Disney Marathon (and 5K, 10K, 1/2) in January. They also have Expedition Everest, which is a 5K/obstacle and all those races usually have a 5K or 10K with them as well. :thumbsup2 (and I'm sure I'm forgetting some!) I couldn't run in the beginning either! Years ago I did a program called Couch to 5K. It starts you off with 30 seconds of running/walk intervals and then builds you up. It's a great way to get yourself running gradually! :goodvibes

Barely! The only reason I counted it was b/c there was a BAR right next to it, so that gives it a few extra brownie points! ;)

I do love entering in through IG. It is the BEST way to get into Epcot. :thumbsup2

It was awesome, we loved it! :thumbsup2

Oh, so you have issued a challenge. I have two posts left. Can I beat you?

Hmmm..............

No. Because I'm actually getting my lazy **** off the couch and going to Target.

Additions to the conversations with 5 year olds...

"Mama, I just love you. Oh. My. Gawd... I love you"

Does it get any better? :goodvibes

Ok rambling. Off to Target. As the rain rain rain comes down down down.....

Go to Target, enjoy your rambly girl (apple doesn't fall far from the tree, eh?) ;)

You'll still beat me! Only two updates?!?! Uh...I have way more than that still. :scared:

and one more thing...I'm incredibly jealous that you can just hop over to Target! If I had to name ONE THING I missed most about living in St. Louis, it would be Target. Ah how I love Target...and to live 100 miles away from one is pure torture! I'm going off to sulk and cry now. ;)

P.S- I'm still sitting here on the computer instead of at Target. I got sidetracked by dishing out wonderful parenting advice on Facebook.

(aka as- how one should never tell your child that they get nothing but toilet water for the rest of the night if they don't finish their dinner because said child might just actual come up with a wet head from attempting to drink out of the toilet. Shhh.. Don't tell DCS)

Also, I might die without a Target. Second only to the Mouse- Target gets most of my money.

Ours is a SuperTarget so I even grocery shop there. :)

PS to you...you have a PM...actually TWO. One from earlier today and one from just now! :)

Staying at an epcot resort would be awesome with being able to walk there daily :cool1:

Cute pics of the girls in the phone booth :goodvibes

Our Target is about 10 minutes from my house.....

Just thought I'd add to the conversation.....
