Has anyone done this? I probably won't, but was wondering how much it costs and if they do a good job. It might be nice to see my pics before we leave, as I'm a scrapbook addict and this would give me a chance to take another pic if the 1st didn't turn out right on some things. I'm guessing it's more than the $3.99 a roll I pay at my pharmacy tho....

I've done this in the past. I don't remember how much it costs, but it WAS expensive. I had a new camera and just wanted to make sure I was using the correct settings, etc. They do a good job, and I believe they were done the next day.

This next trip will be my first since getting a digital. It should be fun getting to see my pictures right away!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

It is probably up to 3 times the amount you pay, last I checked it was.
If you are renting a car, take them over to Walmart and have them done at 5.96 for one hour developing.

I had one roll developed. I think it was about $8 or $9 - and I got a free pin with my pictures. I tried to do the same thing about seeing the pictures to retake, but it didn't help because what I messed up only happened once for the trip (MK fireworks).

I am pretty sure it is $12.99 per roll.

I took in 2 rolls and my digital card on our March trip and was going to get them all developed but when they told me that digital prints were 69 cents each when I can get them for 19 cents each online, I decided to just have the film developed.

When I picked it up, it was actually $25.99 per roll but that was because the camera, which was borrowed for the trip, was set on panoramic so all the pictures were huge and most of the heads were chopped off :(

I was so sad! And a little upset that I spent so much on crappy pictures.

I have used the Eckerds on 535 (I think that's the right road #) for developing. I always liked them when they were in our area, but they went belly-up here. They often have good coupons in their sales circulars. Just heard that CVS bought them all, so I don't know if things will change now.

Yes, the film developing is sorta expensive there. We took tons of pictures on our last trip, and DH insists on seeing them NOW!!! So, we had a roll developed every day but the last one. I do remember it being somewhere around $15 (I think), but we(read he) got double prints every time.

I will be handling all the film delevoping duties from now on....or at least taking a lot more pictures with the digital!!!

One thing that we did was use snapfish.com . Before our trip I requested these little film bags to be sent to me. Then I brought them with me on the trip. At the end of the day, I plopped the film canisters in the prepaid film bag and sent them off to snapfish. You can drop them off in any mailbox. I believe the developing is $2.99 per roll plus $1.99 shipping. (I think the first roll is free.) But then the pictures were waiting for us when we arrived home!!! It also helped with those end of trip blues. It was fun to look at all the pictures when we got home. In addition, they put your pictures up online (included in the price) within one day of receiving your film. This is nice for trip reports and to show friends and family.

If you want any more info on snapfish, let me know. Just PM me.

Well, that would be a great idea, but the OP wanted to know about on site developing just in case she had to retake a picture.

I know, I just was throwing that out there as information for people.

Nice of you to share the information. :) JMHO, but, I am loathe to send my film anywhere via the postal service or send out labs.
They get lost way to often. All pictures are memories but, most especially vacation ones. I will spend the extra money to use one hour and know the chance of them being lost are very very small if not non existant. It makes no sense to me to pay a thousands for a vacation and worry about the 2.00 or less (per roll) more to have the film processed in house. Sort of penny wise and pound foolish.
There again, I have helped customers fix the errors snapfish and others like them have made and that includes the outlab we used.
The price may be good and you may have had wonderful luck, but, in all honesty, you are the exception.
I also cannot imagine anyone sending digital medium off to outlabs. You cannot imagine how many of those "grow legs". Your medium is gone and you have no pictures. Not all people are honest, unfortunately.

yep it is 12.99 just got back and looked cause I wanted to get the film developed and decided to bring it home and now off to Walmart to get it done there.

We did this once when I took a new camera. Just wanted to make sure it was working okay. We were staying at ASMo - dropped film off and picked it up at the main shop. No problem and great pics. I remember that it was about $2 more than at home. I wouldn't do all my film that way, but it was convenient to checkout the camera.

I guess I felt comfortable doing it because we also had digital pictures with a second camera. So I wouldn't have lost all my Disney memories. But I can see where that would be a decision each individual would have to make. They do send you little labels with your name and address on them that you can stick to each roll so if something happens they could still maybe identify your rolls of film.

I would never send my digital memory card things out for processing. Can you even do that?? I always just downloaded the pictures to my laptop each evening.

I used snapfish on the trip not so much for money saving measures but so that the film was developed when we returned home from the trip. It was just one less thing I had to worry about. I am personally a little leary of one-hour photos. In my area they do a HORRIBLE job of developing. So much so that I have stopped using them at all. It is also much more expensive. Plus, they are NEVER ready in one hour. I always have to come back later in the day for them. And this is not just at one place.

Maggie,
It is not while the film is in the canister that causes the problem, it is when it goes into the processor. Film gets "lost" for many reasons. You can label the film to you are green, but, once it leaves it's canister, it is only indentifable by the twin check number, which, can, and often does, come off during the processing.
I am sorry to hear that your area does a horrible job processing film, and I am sure my friend from Sam's club would be unhappy to hear that. She is in Chicago. I can only speak about our area and the difference between one hour and send out is approx. 1.50 per roll of 24. As to it not being ready in one hour, well, often ours was done in less than 45 mins. Depending on the volume of the day, sometimes it was over an hour because of volume or broken machines. BUT, we always let the customer know and gave them the choice of coming back, outlab or leaving it with us knowing it would be more than an hour. I also made sure that every frame was corrected, if necessary. No batch printing from me. :) Outlabs, like Snapfish, batch process, one continous length of film. If you saw the process, I doubt you would ever do it again. I toured two of Fuji's outlabs, I would not send my film out. Like I said, I undid a lot of errors from Snapfish and others. BUT, I always said I was not processing film, I was preserving memories. I loved that job, but, I could not deal with the customers and I hate retail.
No after this extreamly long disertation, I will say, if you are happy with Snapfish, all the more power to you and I am happy that you are happy with the results. BUT, I would not ever take the chance and I would worry about it being lost by the USPS or the lab.
Take care and Happy Easter.
BTW, yes, you can send digital media via the outlabs. And, you would be amazed how many people do. Just to save a couple of bucks.

I live at Wakmart one hour photo. I will use Sam's club if I'm in area. I had all my wedding pictures done night of wedding and it was like 12 disp cameras and they were done in an hour.

35 mm or 110 cameras? If it was 110 film getting all those done in an hour is absolutely awesome. :) If it was 35 mm, that is nothing, load em up and let em rip through the processor (there is a special carraige for that many rolls). When they come out of the processor, it takes a good tech about 2 minutes to run the roll through the printer (unless there are a lot of corrections to be made).
So, tell me, did you get some good shots with the disposables?

:)

Never used the service, but did price it, too expensive, we use
walgreens in Orlando, fast/inexpensive.

might want to try Clark Color Labs, they are located in most major cities(mail away)

I was reluctant to mail away* my vacation pictures, but always do now, it's so much cheaper and I get them back in a about a week, example: 24-27 exp off 400 speed 3.29.

Good luck and happy picture snapping!
