I'm just wondering what websites allow for files to be uploaded and shared with other people.

Thanks

I'm trying to work out putting excel document online with our itinary's for my family to view. I did a facebook event for our next disney trip and can put photos and video but how do I share files like word, excel with them?

Most every website doesn't allow direct upload of files. That is how viruses and worms can be spread so it is a huge security risk.

Have you considered a Gmail account? They allow Google Documents and you can put your documents on there. Either everyone would have to get a Gmail account or you would have to share your password which would give everyone access to do whatever they want with the account. But it may get you what you want.

if it's for your own family, make a free forum. Invisionfree has them and they are easy to put up. You can keep it a closed forum and just you and your family (or friends) use it without the worry of others seeing it. I used to play an online game with a group of friends, we used an invisionfree forum for years (still open because we're friends even though we no longer play the game). We have uploaded pics, files, etc. without any problems.

Yes, Google Documents would do the trick. Also, if you all have Microsoft Office 2007, you may all also have Microsoft Groove, and you can share documents that way, too.

I was thinking something along the lines of posting a link on facebook that takes them to the site where the file have been uploaded. That way when I have a days plan done I can show it or say the flight itinary can be posted. I have seen that done on these boards where a poster puts up a link and it takes you to a web page that host their documents. Is the microsoft like that?

Just dawned on me to to set up a free web site for our trip that will work.

Thanks for all the help :)

No; Microsoft Groove is a peer-to-peer shared workspace application. It essentially is like having your own little collaborative workgroup application, sort of like a Facebook Group (with a discussion tool, and a files tool, and a notepad tool, and a database tool, etc.), but everyone in the workgroup gets a copy of everything, and gets every update. Folks can work off-line, and when the go back online, they synchronize with whoever is online at the time (and so forth from there). As long as there is at least one person online at all time (and, of course, everyone has the Microsoft Groove application), it works great. (By the way, I should note that Microsoft Groove is only available in certain versions of Microsoft Office 2007 -- Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate -- as well as separately.)

What it sounds like you need is your own hosting website. For that, I use Yahoo Small Business:

http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/

But you might be satisifed with Yahoo Site Builder:

http://webhosting.yahoo.com/ps/sb/index.php

(Note that I don't know anything about Site Builder, so I really don't know if it will work for what you're trying to do.)

4shared.com will give you 5 gigs of storage for free. It's a storage site, not a file swap site, so you would set up your account, and have to give others the log in information and they can download or upload files to that site.

Just a reminder though... none of these services are to be used for transferring copyrighted material. For example, the service oXar referred to has the following rules:
By using the 4shared service, you agree not to do any of the following:

1. Post, distribute, or otherwise make available or transmit any data, message, text, computer file, or other material that infringes any right of a third party and/or any domestic or international law, rule, or regulation, including but not limited to:
1. copyright, trademark, patent, or other proprietary rights;

... the owner of the copyright or other intellectual property rights will be informed and may call you to account for violating their rights.
However, for use as the OP intended... an Excel file with their own personal plans in them, and photos and videos that they themselves created ... this service sounds great.
