Three weeks almost to the day before our last Disney trip, my Fil practically chopped his toes off his foot. (Long story short, he was working on a piece of equipment and the hood came down and crushed his toes.) So, we all freaked for a few days about the upcoming trip, when it dawned on me, that heck, this might actually turn into a good thing! He was so bummed, it was the first trip with all of us, and my dd is an only grandchild. Well, he had to be in a wheelchair all day, but after our first day at Seaworld, he perked up a bit when, first we got excellent parking. Then, when we got to go on Journey to Atlantis twice in a row (I felt rather guilty as we wheeled past the line the second time and there were the same ppl still waiting). Then, they got excellent seats for Shamu --we had to sit quite a few rows back from them which was a bummer, but we weren't the handicapped ones--
The rest of the vacation was just like that, every ride we wanted to go on we zipped right on with no wait.
I guess, if he had to be in pain with pins sticking out of his toes, and we couldn't do the water parks, Disney was the best place to lessen his suffering somewhat.
Really, I was pleased with how accomodating Disney is to the handicapped, be it permanent or not.
