I had to share my great experience.

Thursday Night at 10 my phone rings and it is someone I have never met asking me if I would mind voluntering to hand out brochures for the 2004 Nationals at the Champions on Ice performance in Nashville on Friday night. They said I would get a free ticket to the performance, so I said yes.

Well for about half an hour of brochure work, I got a free ticket and it was about 10 rows back in the center. The show was great, but the best part was that I got a back stage pass. I wound up getting Michelle Kwan, Timothy Goble and lots of other autographs (and I have NEVER gotten anyone's autograph, not even Mickey's!) It was great fun. Michelle is TINY up close. I am 5'4" and I felt like the Jolly Green Giant next to Michelle.

Did you get to meet Elvis Stojko???? If so, I'm SO jealous.

WOW! I'm a big fs fan, and I am JEALOUS! :)

That's AAWESOME compensation for for a half hour's work! ;)

That is totally awesome! :Pinkbounc

I absolutely love figure skating and would love to meet the skaters that you did.

So glad you got their autographs. How exciting. :Pinkbounc :bounce:

What a great opportunity! Lucky you!
And at DIS Con, I will take you to the Hall of Fame and we can get Mickey's autograph! ;)

How cool is that!! See what happens when you volunteer a little bit of your time?!

Wow! That is so cool! I'd love to be able to meet some of the skaters in person! Lucky you to get to do that and get all their autographs!

That was a great experience. I went to COI in Atlantic City NJ and we were about 10 rows from the ice.
I am an older skating groupie. My favorite autograph was Dorothy Hammell only because I got my father-in-law to go to the show in 1976 and he never went anywhere. I was at an airport and Scott Hamilton was getting his luggage off the conveyor belt the same time as I was. I am 5'2'' and he was about my hight but much thinner in person. Its fun when you actually get to meet & greet or meet and look at.

Did you get to figure the bill out, Carol?? I wonder if I would look big next to Michelle. :) Very neat, Carol. :sunny:

What a great opportunity. Sounds like fun.

We saw this show in San Jose last month. All I can say is: PHILLIPPE!!!!
(well, actually, the whole show was terrific, but ahhhh...Phillippe!)

Wow, how did it come to be that this person called you and asked you to volunteer? Geez, I wish someone would call me and ask me!

I met Kristi Yamacuchi, Scott Hamilton and Katerina Witt at a hotel once. We were there for happy hour, and the skaters were staying there. I about died when they all just walked in the bar/restaurant. Kristi is itty bitty, Scott too, but Katerina was bigger. She actually has a figure of a grown woman and not a little girl, amazingly. It seems most of these girls are lie the size of an 8-year old.

Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, I met Elvis. Did not meet Candelero, but he has to be the only skater I have ever seen who brings a laundry hamper out to do his program.

They called me because I had filled out a volunteer form for the 2004 Nationals in Atlanta. (I have family and friends there so I can go down and volunteer) I volunteered at the Nationals we hosted in Nashville and it was a lot of fun. I thought I would enjoy doing it again.

I have ordered tickets to the 2003 Worlds in DC, but... I don't know if I am going. Hotels are VERY expensive right now and I am just not sure.

WOW, CarolA...that's cool!! I also have all-event tix for Worlds in DC 2003.( see my countdown!!) There are at least a few others here that have them, too. I would LOVE to do my first DIS meet in conjunction with that competition!! I hope you DO go! We got a hotel in Arlington, but got lucky in that my traveling companoin's DH had a ton of Marriott points and the hotel wound up being FREE!! Maybe YOU know someone who could share some sort of points with you!!

You know I had not thought about trying with my Marriott Points for a hotel at the World Championships. Maybe I should do that. I do have quite a few points and some Diners Club points I could move! (I know I will wind up going, the big question is for how long? I am looking at flying up on Tuesday and home on Sunday!)

Wow, that's awesome! We saw Tara Lipinski in WDW in june, and she is unbelievably tiny. I'm only 5' and she was a lot smaller than me.

I don't think I'd mind meeting Timothy Goebel!;)
