fight at dca between guest and the one and only disney security cm they have working

Yes but as a paying guest I don't think they should have been put in harms way not saying they forced them to they proberly did not want to see the security cm get hurt. The video 4 min and said it has shoot after it got started so that along time just for one security cm not to call for back up. To be fair I never saw or heard on the video if he called for help or more officers so Disney will be reviewing this and he might be in trouble for not making sure their enough security on the scene so they can keep everyone safe. Disney dose work hard to make sure your safe but Disney land needs to look at what Disney world dose because they handle bag checks better and over all safety of the guest. Not saying Disneyland dangerous or they both don't have to deal with the same problems. In wdw they have security on bikes plus vehicles and on foot they even got those security towers they put in dtd and parking lots before the NYPD did. Not saying they always have a cm in it I am sure most of them are just for show.

That does seem like a long time for only one guard to be there. I'm glad to see that guests stepped in to help but that really shouldn't be necessary. I hope they got fastpasses.

Because this is not something related to the podcast forum or any of the topics discussed in shows past, I'm going to move it over to the rumors board.

Two observations: To the women screaming "THERE ARE KIDS HERE" -- why the heck are you hanging around? Get your kids out of there.

Secondly, for anyone who happens to be filming something like this with a cellphone, flip your phone horizontally, please.

+1

I was actually thinking of starting a thread to say just that. Most people don't realize that your camera phone is meant to be held horizontally. This is particularly true for video or else you get that vertical bar rather than a full screen image.

As for the woman shouting that there are kids present, that doesn't mean she had kids present. Of course, if I was there, I would have left the scene, kids or no kids, because you never know how that situation will escalate. Who knows if the guy has a weapon. Sorry but bag checks don't prevent guests from bringing in guns and knives.

True 'nuff. I made an assumption, but it's true she could have been child-less and concerned for the children of others.

FAKE POLICE BRUTALITY!!!

did anybody else wonder why panama jack came over 10 seconds AFTER the guy was on the ground and gave up and gave him five more shots with the pepper spray?

for good measure?:wizard:

I'll be honest. That was pitiful on Disney's part. As others have said the response time and number of responders would have been much faster and larger at WDW. One Disney security employee with pepper spray clearly wasn't enough. In my opinion (call me wrong, I know someone will) Disney needs to teach their security personnel even the mildest form of self defense, and needs to issue tasers or even handcuffs or zip ties at least. There also needs to be more security personnel...at least judging from that video.

your right if their was at least one more security cm they most likely would not need to use the pepper spray unless he really got out of control. I am surprised disney would give their security cms pepper spray because of the risk of someone getting sprayed and then suing. all they needed was for him to spray the two guest that help by accident and you have more trouble on your hands.

woah woah woah there, newt...

disney "security" are in no way - nor ever will be - capable of what you are advocating...

tasers and zipties? i went to college with some people who later became "officers" after they dropped out.
They were as out of shape as jabba the hutt and one in particular was found once standing on her dorm room toilet seat after a fearsome daddy long legs was found on the bathroom floor.

there is the same "screening process" with security as there is every other CM...which is to say, almost nothing.

That's the reality...its a headfake. They're there for a "presence" and the hard liners catch shoplifters. It is effective for what it is...but not manhandling ruffians a la Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse

What a mess!

I seriously hope that DL re-evaluates its security procedures because this demonstrates how problematic they are.

Why did the security officer re-spray the gentleman (and I'm using that term loosely) when he was standing there wiping his eyes, not being (physically) aggressive?

And why didn't any CMs come over sooner to tell those bystanders who were escalating the situation (by yelling, mocking, etc.) to move along? :sad2:

And it is simply unacceptable that the response time would be so slow that bystanders would need to step in. Improperly restraining someone can kill them and it is ridiculous that Disney's poor security response put both the gentleman and the bystanders at risk.

Here's my read, based on that video...and I am not a cop or trained as such

The woman was yelling about "There are kids here" in an attempt to get the guy to stop being aggressive and consider what he was doing.

I do not know what provoked the incident in the first place. The security CM initially stopped spraying the man when he took a fully defensive position on the ground.

I could not hear, but I'm assuming he was told to remain on the ground, and then he got up. Although at the time he didn't necessarily make any aggressive moves, he was disobeying and was still belligerent. That in itself could be construed as aggressive, so he was sprayed again.

No idea why there wasn't more support much more quickly, though. Three minutes is not much time, really, but at least at WDW they seem to appear out of nowhere...

In my experience last week at WDW, the security is very high. There was a sheriff posted at the entrance to every park in addition I saw multiple people just hanging out at the entrances dressed in street clothes with ear pieces in. By street clothes I don't mean business casual, I mean shorts, t shirts and hats....just like everyone else.

I have a feeling the ole' timers you see at the bag checks are window dressing only....at least for WDW.

here a photo of two guest and a another cm holding him back before he get pepper sprayed. to be fair to the cm he did get punched in the face and kicked before he sprayed him so he had a legal right to use the pepper spray. i love the man asking can't you call security i wonder who they thought the guy in white was a random guest dressed for the occasion who happened to be carrying pepper spray.

Based on viewing the video and seeing the photo above, here's my guess as to what happened. My guess is that it started with the drunk getting "into it" verbally with some of the young "punks" with the video cameras. Things escalated and the drunk got physical (thus the later comment about "You're not so tough now!") insult hurled at him by the videographer's friend off-camera. The attraction CMs then tried to restrain the drunk (shown in the photo on THR)... but I'm not sure if the guy in the blue shorts is trying to calm him down or was part of the dispute. Pepper spray wielding security CM shows up and... roll the video.

No offense intended to Walt, but times have changed considerably since he planned DL... I understand his thoughts on "lulling" people into feeling safe, but society has gotten a lot more violent, and I think the Disney Co. has to adapt to it. I'm not saying to arm their security, but if they have to hire off duty police to stand at the gates as a deterrent, then do so. They can afford it!

To the contrary, I think Bob Iger looks at that video and thinks, "Check it out! We don't need to hire any security at all -- the guests will take care of it for us!"
