Just saw the other day that Megachina is retiring.
I just went down to WV in April to visit the Fiesta Ware factory store in Newell and the outlet at the Flatwoods Outlet mall. Large selection at both-far more than any of my local Macy's/Kohl's type retailers-but the prices were, honestly, about what I'd expect with a good sale.
However, the Factory store had a huge seconds room (the Flatwoods location had one as well, but much smaller). For anyone with the time and patience, I have no doubt you could go far in building your Fiesta Ware collection just on the "seconds", because if you have the patience to paw through the pallets of plates, bowls, serving dishes etc, you can find some where the flaw is either un-noticeable, or unimportant to you. I got one of the big baking dishes (retails at something like $75) for like $23 because of a maybe 1 inch scratch, on the bottom, in the clay, not even in the emanel, and it's not a gouge or a crack waiting to happen, it's a little bitty scratch. Now, some of the seconds, it's very clear why they are there-poor glazing, divots or bumps on the plate, etc. I bought several plates, a spoon rest and some other stuff as seconds-the prices on seconds are significantly discounted, and all were flaws that I either couldn't find (I have a couple plates that I have used several times, and I still can't figure out why they were seconds) or that I am comfortable with (one has a tiny bump in the bottom of a serving bowl-tiny that you can't see it, but you can feel it, and it's in the bottom of the serving bowl-who's going to see it anyway?).
If you do go to either outlet store, bring a rag or two to dust off what you are looking at! I plan on trying to get back to the store in Newell this fall (maybe a girl's weekend type trip) to just get some more filler kind of items, gusto bowls, big mugs, another spoonrest or two, maybe a pizza tray thing....
