Field's to Macy's

That's interesting. I wonder if the Chicago-made Frangos were made with Blommers chocolate. I have a friend who lives in Marina Towers and when I visit him I can sometimes smell the chocolate production down river.

No Frangos were completely made at the State Street store - Don't quote me here, but I believe that Blommers is the most eaten Chocolate in the world . All the nameless Easter bunnies, hollow Santas, fundraising chocolate is really Blommers - its the generic chocolate.

Blommers also makes the chocolate base for many other "chocolates". Frangos are chololate plus mint (or other flavorings) and I thought that they may have used Blommers for the chocolate base. I'm OK with being wrong, through. Every once in a while :rotfl:.

I thought maybe robinb was on to something. There has to be an explanation for the drop in quality and using a substitute to cut costs sure would explain the situation.

Those boxes last Valantines will be our last. The meltways by World's Finest are better now, and we get to make some kid happy when we buy them. A win win.

Macy's did the hyphen thing in Memphis with Goldsmiths too. They became Goldsmith-Macy's for awhile. We moved before they dropped the Goldsmith part but I would assume they did.

I am by no means an authority on Frangos chocolates - they very well could have used the Blommers chocolate base - I was always under the assumption that Frangos were made at Fields and I have absolutely NOTHING to back that up on. :)

ITA the World's Finest meltaways are awesome!

All of the stores that Federated bought and hyphenated either have been dropped or will be dropped to just be Macy's. They want to have a single recognizable name brand across the country. I'm interested to see what happens here. I personally think the Macy's located in the Mall of America is a dump and they have a terrible women's shoe collection compared to what the bigger Field's stores carry. Also Minneapolis will be the hq for the northern division of Macy's Department Stores, but many people who currently work at the hq will soon have no jobs.

You know it's the stranged thing...I used to live in Chicago and worked downtown at AMC River East. Well I remember I'd walk to the Grand Red Line stop and I'd ALWAYS smell chocolate! I don't remember the intersection but it was near the Nordstroms (I'd walk under Michigan.)

Is Blommers chocolate what I was smelling?? It always smelled so good. Of course it could be from a restaurant...

I think it's a shame they are changing the name!

I never had the "real" Frangos, but I've always liked them. I remember when I was went to school on the east coast, I led a trip of a few students to Chicago in early December and it was a lot of fun visiting Field's and seeing the Christmas tree, window displays, and just the atmosphere!

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Thanks I needed that.

I too am a little disapointed about the name change, I think I am more disapointed about the holiday windows and parade!!! why would Macy's have two parades, one in NY and another in Chicago?? I have been in Macy's and its not Horrible, But I definietly perfer MARSHALL FIELDS!!!!

You can't go the walnut room and think of Macy's can You???

People around here are upset about Kaufman's becoming Macy's; same idea with the old downtown Kaufman's store and landmark clock. Personally I don't shop at either (DD bought homecoming dress at Macy's though) so I don't really care, and I'm not a longtime Pittsburgher so I don't have that old attachment to Kaufman's. I'm sure the old Higbee's and Halle's of my youth in Cleveland are long gone. Our Macy's here was a Lazarus, and before that it was a Hornes, who knows what it was before that.

I'm from Pittsburgh and I am upset, both by the loss of the name and b/c I have shopped at both and I preferred Kaufmann's to Macy's. For a New York comparison it is like Bloomingdales v. Macy's. Also the sentimentalist in me is taking it hard -- I registered for my wedding at Kaufmann's and I have bought so many gifts for meaningful occasions there over the years.

I am bringing up a old thread, but finally have heard about the Macy company merging with the May company.

This now explains why the Lazarus that is in a neighboring town has switched to Macy's. LOL!!! I need to get with it.

DH has a Kaufmann's card and since these two company's have merged, can he {or me ;) } use it at Macy's now? Or is there a time period everyone has to wait before using cards from one place and using them at another?
