Ok, since I've been chiming in here and there today - I might as well bite the bullet and journal a bit. I only came up with this scheme yesterday, so we'll see how it goes.
The CHALLENGE!
I've got 50lb to lose, and a disney vacation scheduled for may 2006. $10/lb bounty for body fat! $10/lb penalty for gaining body fat! So, time's a ticking (or dropping)
- how will I get there?
The PLAN!
Eat less, move more.
I'm committing to 25 minutes of activity every day. I get 2 sick/exhausted days per week (no rolling over sick days!
) Worse, I've got a spreadsheet to track it, and it says that every week I'm adding 5 minutes to this committment (up to 120 minutes, then it changes). Can you tell I'm a planner?
I'm also practicing some of the behavior modification techniques from Dr Kushner's Personality Type Diet - They are:
Eating conciously. Reminding myself before 5 seconds before I eat to eat slowly and savor my food. Reminding myself 5 minutes into the meal to think about how much I'm enjoying my meal, and how hungry I am. NO EATING LIKE A RABID MONGOOSE!
No more munching alllllll night. One snack after dinner. That's it. No, even if the baby keeps me up until midnight, I will not eat 5 pkgs of M&Ms. One snack. If it looks like a long night - I might want to save that snack for later.
Making myself (and my health) a priority. When the baby goes down for a nap - I get some time for *me*. At the moment, my plan (and what I've been doing) is to do my pilates as soon as she goes down. The world won't come to an end if I don't empty the dishwasher for 15 more minutes. I am a valuable member of my family. If DH wanted to get more exercise and eat healthier - I would support him - so I'm supporting myself!
Sucesses so Far
Well, yesterday I did a morning walk, nap pilates and an evening walk for a total of 55minutes of exercise, well over this week's goal of 25 minutes. This morning I skipped the morning walk (we've been altering the kid's bedtime and wakeup time, and I didn't want her to nap in the stroller) - but I got in my pilates, and I'm planning a long walk before swim class orientation tonight.
I ate less than usual at dinner last night - and stopped when I was full instead of finishing the three bites of rice in creamy sauce on my plate. I ate a healthy breakfast this morning, and after preparing my lunch - discovered I wasn't hungry enough to eat much at all. I'll eat more of my lunch before tonight's orientation and plan a light dinner afterwards.
Time to go empty the dishwasher, pop in some tunes and see if I can break a sweat cleaning up without waking the kidlet!
