Fibromyalgia Thread

Hi All! Hope you are all doing well and free of major pain.

Chell - I am so sorry that you were so sick on vacation. I was wonddering what happened and was sad we didn't get together. I felt bad that I had maybe called too late :confused3. Wasn't it cold? I was so achy the nites that we stayed out late at the parks.

I have lots of reading/posts to catch up on... work has been brutal since I got back. I have been too tired to read and post.

Good job on the exercise - I need to borrow some of that motivation...

Welcome newbies! This is a really nice place with lots of care and support, glad ur all here....

Stay warm everybody!

Wow that double sucks preparing so you don't get the infection (respiratory was what i get too, with wicked sore throat) but you get the stomach bug because your immune system is down. Maybe avoid the steriods when you fly? I wont fly becuause when I first got sick I had heard alot of chatter about relaspes after flying. I'm so sentitive to baramtric pressue I figure it would trigger a major flare.

This was the first time I had ever had the steroid injections so close to flying. That is something I sure won't do in the future! My immune system is still on the down side anyway from fighting the gluten for so long. I'm just a little freak.

Even as cold as it was in Florida I didn't hurt as much as I do in the cold at home. I find that odd.

No, you didn't call too late at all. But I think I was just starting to feel sick when you called. That may be why I sounded weird. I'm so sorry. I hate that we didn't get to meet up. We were up late every night except Sunday & maybe Monday night.

Yes, it was cold! Like I said in my last post, for some reason the cold there didn't make me hurt near as bad as it does here at home.

Everyone on Lyrica, do you get your blood drawn to make sure the lyrica isnt hurting your liver?

They just took my friend off it because its so hard on your liver.

Has anyone ever tried turmeric (spice) or curcumin for inflamation?

Turmeric is widely used as a food coloring and gives Indian curry its distinctive flavor and yellow color. It is also used in mustard and to color butter and cheese. Turmeric has long been used in both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine as an anti-inflammatory, to treat digestive and liver problems, skin diseases, and wounds. The curcumin in turmeric has been shown to stimulate the production of bile by the gallbladder. Curcumin is also a powerful antioxidant; antioxidants scavenge damaging particles in the body known as free radicals, which damage cell membranes, tamper with DNA, and even cause cell death. Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause. In addition, curcumin reduces inflammation by lowering levels of two inflammatory enzymes (called COX-2 and LOX) in the body and stops platelets from clumping together to form blood clots.

Thanks for the info:thumbsup2 I'll have to look at these more closely. Ginger root can be good for pain. the ginger plant is supposed to be part of the basic structure seen in celebrex.

The chiropractor my sister & I used to go to said that if you take ginger and turmeric together you will get the most benefit from them both. Together they are really supposed to help with inflammation. Ginger is also supposed to be great for the stomach.

Turmeric is also supposed to be good for hives; good for preventing them and curing them. Being the freak that I am I got hives from taking the turmeric. I also found out the hard way that I'm allergic to ginger. So the moral of this story is to start taking one then once you are certain you can tolerate it add the other. It sucks being such a weirdo.

If you're a freak then I am too my fibro-gluten friend! ME TOO! Expect it to take a year to really feel better from the gluten change. Also make sure your Celiac Dr. checks all your vitamin nutrition levels as well as a bone desity test. My daughter at age 21 had bone loss from the Celiac and it is very important to watch.

Did you enjoy eating at WDW after your stomach bug cleared up? We ate so well and it was sooooo yummy! Hope you enjoyed a few great gluten free meals!

Feel better and pain free vibes for all!

LOL I had a weird reaction to coQ10 similar to the reaction I have with antidepresents. I have to start all suppliments slowly just like meds.I think the reason suppliments work for me is beacuse my body is so sensitve that a little bit of something goes a long way.

I'll remember to talk to her about checking the vitamin levels next visit. Thank you for the reminder!

Yes, I did enjoy eating after I was able to eat a meal again. It took a few days to get back up to eating more than a few bites at a time. But once I could eat I tried to make up for lost time. ;)

They did provide awesome gluten free meals. But I learned that I do NOT like the buns they use. I just don't like the after-feel of them. YUCK! But I did find a great tasting cookie! It has egg in it but I don't care. The eggs don't seem to bother me as much now.

Hope everyone is feeling well!!!

Isn't it odd how we can all react so differently to the same things? I still find it amazing how our bodies work. They are all basically the same but yet so different.

With pain meds I could take 2 of the strongest codeine pills out there and they would barely phase me. I know some people that could take 1/2 of the lowest and they would be out for hours. When I had my wisdom teeth out I woke up early, about half way through the procedure and they had to put me back under. My body burns up the anesthesia too fast. All of this must be a hereditary thing because my grandmother was the same way with pain meds, not sure about anesthesia.

It is so fascinating how we are the same but so very different.

Still awake GRRRRRR... Was just secounds from falling into a nice sleep then suddenly awake. That was four hrs ago :(

My wife just booked a Disney Cruise :cool1:, it will be our first cruise ever! I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or insight on cruising with fibro.

At WDW I usually get by with lots of medicine, and we use a GAC so there is less "bumping" in line (too bad they don't have anything for the "funnel" rooms :( ). Is there anything like that that I should try to have a plan for ahead of time?

Sorry that did not work for you tigg. I hope that you are able to get sleep soon. I can't seem to stay awake until bedtime, so I usually have a snooze when I get home.

Cosine4 - I cannot help you with cruises, I have never cruised. Used to throw up on my grandpa's boat when we went fishing in the ocean. So haven't really been on a boat since.

Congrats on the cruise though. I am sure someone here will be able to help. :goodvibes

I went on a Cruise pre Fibro(1987) it was wonderful. The one thing I remember is that when the seas got rough our bed rocked side to side. That worked great but I saw rooms that had beds facing the oposite direction so they rocked head to toe!!!! I would make sure to ask for your bed to face Aft (back) or Stern (frount) as that would be very disorienting even though I dont get car sick. Explain it is for health reasons to to make sure it get done!

I slept last night with a higher does of Meletonin. But I slept all day too. I have been sleeping every morning into the afternon this week :( Getting kids to school has been HARD.

Only on tonight because DS had a homework assignment that he really didn't want to do and it took 5+ hours!!!!!! That was with me Babysitiing him to make sure he didnt wander around the house instead of working. What is it with guys thinking if they ignore something it will go away??? My DH does this too and he is generally the king of multitasking (no offence Cosign I'm sure you dont do that :) )

I'll have to have DH call me from Cleaveland to make sure I wake up. Otherwise all bets are off tomorrow I just sooo tired. My body wants to sleep from 3am til 3pm :(

Do you guys (who are old enogh) hurt forever after having your Mamogram? I had to have a followup last week after having a biopsy in July and my left side is just hurting and hurting. I just feel like this is not normal! On the brighter side, the doc called and there are no changes after the biopsy and I can go back to yearly screenings.

Tigg - I am back to the crappy sleep pattern too. 3AM and dragin out of bed at noon! The night before my followup I couldn't sleep and now it's back to the old routine!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Erika

Tinker N fun

I'm so so so so so Sorry for what you went through!!!!!!!!

There is one word for that MALPRACTICE!!! You went there for an evaluation not a criminal assesment. You did nothing wrong. I worked in the medical field for more than 10 years and there is nothing that you describe that is in any way ethical or professional. Please do not let these people make you feel bad. I've been off for awhile due to overwhelming fatigue but when I saw this on my blackberry I could not let you go one more moment without a supportive voice. Absolutely do not go back. Your Dr. put you on your meds to treat you like the crimiminal is insane.

You are in my thoughts. Sending lots of pixie dust your way. Please come back and vent, vent, vent you have earned it.

P.S. I have never gone to a Pain clinic because in my experience I do not respond well to meds and I figured they would load me up. Never thought any clinic would respond like that to Fibro. You just gave me one more reason not to go to one!

Tink and Fun

What a horrible experience for you. They treated you very unprofessionally and disrespectfully. Sounds like they didn't even give you a chance to tell them that you were already on pain medication (I guess the "Doctor" was too busy talking to his wife to finish taking your history). I don't blame you for being upset. I am also on pain meds and always feel guilty too went I take them. My psychiatrist is actually the one who prescribes them for me (because my GP wouldn't:confused3) and she will not send me to the "fibro doctor" here because he has an awful reputation and she's had other patient with fibro go to him and they reported bad experiences. I am lucky that she understands and is willing to help.

Don't feel guilty about what you need to get you through the hard spells. I am glad that you aren't going back. You deserve better.

:hug:to you.

Rhonda
