We just got back from our third trip to Jambo House and we felt like there were fewer animals on our savannah than ever before. We thought they might have had to split their animals with Kidani. Anyone have any thoughts?

I was a little disappointed with the # of animals last month.

I didn't have anything to compare it too. It was also bone chilling cold at the time.

Alot of the animals might have been keep inside due to temp. Some of the animals are very sensitive to cooler temps and could be harmful to the animal.

I agree some animals cannot deal with 50 degree nights. Also a few weeks ago it got close to 30 degrees probably killing alot of vegitation. I am sure that made a difference too.

They did move some animals around after the Sunset Savanna expansion was completed back in April or May. For example, the five giraffes that used to be on the Uzima Savanna were moved to Sunset which used to have only 2 giraffes. I assume the two males from Sunset were moved to Uzima but I don't know that for sure.

We saw a lot of animals near our room in Kidani last week. At one point just after the feeding truck had stopped by there were 5 giraffes, 2 zebras, 5 ankole cattle, 3 maribou storks and a crowned crane all within view. At other times there were no animals around at all. The Sunset Savanna is so large now, the animals have a lot of room to roam so there are times when there are lots of animals nearby and other times when they are wandering around somewhere else. I didn't check out the other savannas over at Jambo House so I don't know what the activity level was like there.

The best thing is to figure out when they put the food out. You get the most activity near your room when the feeding stations have just been restocked.

I was there in Jan. My brother was in Kidani and between the 2 there were certinaly more animals at Kidani during the same time.

Which savanna were you on at Jambo?

Before Kidani, the Sunset Savanna was the least desirable savanna. Now that it has been expanded, it makes sense that they would add more animals. But that benefits Jambo as well, for those guests whose rooms face Sunset. There are still those people pens on the Sunset Savanna at Jambo but other than that I would think there would be better animal viewing now than there was before Kidani was built.

We were on Arusha which always before seemed like the mother-load of animals, but this time I think we only saw 2 giraffes in 5 days. I'm not really complaining though. It's still my favorite place on earth and we got to see zebra here and there and once there were red river hogs. Still awesome, just more sparse than in the past.
