Few transfer questions?

Hi! I do feel like these questions have probably been asked here previously, but when I was searching I wasn’t turning up what I wanted, but please feel free to direct me to any prior threads I was missing.

We are planning to book a bigger family vacation in 2023, which I don’t have enough points for. Long term, even though I wouldn’t mind more personal points, I really don’t need them, so I am thinking about a transfer - renting is also an option, but I really rather maintain control of the resevation.

Couple transfer questions -

1.) If I have a June use year, and the points are from another use year, will they still show up in my June membership? Not like a separate membership if I had two different use years?
2.) I read in the past you couldn’t use the 7-11 month home resort priority booking period online and needed to call member services to book - is this still the case?
3.) Most of my points I can’t use to book RIV, but if these are direct points, when transferred to me, I should still be able to book RIV with them correct?
4.) Payment - is there any best practice?
I know transfers are final, so understand the member wanting payment up front, but what is standard? Full amount? A deposit?
5.) Any other tips?

Thanks!! As always, SO appreciated.

1 and 2) Transferred points will show up in your June membership account but will retain their own use year.. You can now do a reservation online that combines your use year points with the transferred points

3) if you get a transfer from a Riviera owner that purchased the points from DVD, you can use them for any resort. If you get points transferred by a resale owner of Riviera, the points can be used only for Riviera.

4) Common practice is payment in full at or just before time of transfer for the obvious reason that the transaction is irreversible

5) A usual problem one faces with transfers is not being able to get the points you need. You are entitled to only one transfer per year, In or out of your account. Thus, in many cases, for example, a member may need 40 points to complete a reservation but no one is offering just 40 points. You cannot buy less than 40 because of the one transfer rule. If you actually want the transfer, you often have to buy more than you need because the transfering member is not going to lower the amount of points he wants to transfer.

To complete a transfer, both members must together contact MS. You should not mention that the transfer involves a payment, since there is actually a rule against transfers for payment.

You should also consider different options, such as borrowing points, or purchase by having the other member reserve part of your reservation using that member's points to make a reservation in your name, and then have MS link that reservation with your own reservation for the other part of the trip.
