I posted a thread here a month or two ago and got a ton of info-Thank you all again. After thinking about where we wanted to stay I think we've finally decided on the cabins at FW. I think it would be a wonderful time for our whole family and FW offered the most of what we were looking for. Still concerned w/transportation but I think it'll be fine. We really wanted an independent feel so we considered offsite rental home for our own space to come home to after a busy day at the parks but it lacked the proximity to the parks plus all the benefits of staying onsite. The space and amenities of the cabin is so important - the grill & the deck sounds wonderful. So anywho I'll get to my questions ;).

Is there Bell Service or luggage assistance? Concerned w/our departure and getting our luggage to ME. We have so much stuff.

Is there still a bus to WL? Are there buses to the TTC? Allears.net has this mentioned in their write up but I don't see it on the maps/descriptions I've printed.

Is it anymore difficult to get to ADRs then any other resort? We're thinking of Kona Cafe and of course Chef Mickey's and I'm just trying to figure out what the best way would be to get there. Looks like theres a boat to CR so that might be the easiest way to both ADRs.

Are taxis around like they are at other resorts?

If I order groceries, will someone deliver them to our cabin or would we have to pick them up at the Outpost?

We're a family of 5 - could we all fit in a golf cart? DD3 could sit on my lap if thats allowed.

Thanks in advance for all your help. You guys have been so helpful - I appreciate it. :thumbsup2

We had our own car or a rental..don't remember which when we stayed in the cabins, so I can't help you with the taxi info. I would imagine that they have some type of bell services for those who use the Magical Express. I'm sure someone will come along and help you with that..or you could call the Fort directly. We did rent the golf cart and we are a family of 5. Didn't have any problems. Our youngest sat either sat on a lap or squeezed in between his siblings. Wasn't an issue.
The water launch would probably be the best way to get to both Kona and Chef Mickey's. I believe it does make a stop at the Contemporary, and you might have to take it to the MK..then board the monorail, or take another water launch to the Poly. Either way, the water launch is very pleasant. ;)

we stayed in the cabins in september and loved it my husband is hooked on the cabins we used magical express and yes they do have a van that will take you and your luggage to and from the outpost also the day before your departure they will also leave you a pick up time for the day you leave, the transportation was great no complaints and they have a boat that goes to contemporary its the smaller of the two if i remember right i dont know if there are any busses that take you to the ttc (why would you need to go there) all the busses go to all the parks ( i am not too sure whats there as we went to just the 4 parks and dtd) i also am not sure on taxies as we didn't use one don't forget your packing list coffee filters if you drink coffee as they don't supply them also brought a small can of lysol to spray beds and pillows and to have a fresh scent in the cabins (this was a lifesaver) have a great time (when are you going)

My family of five stayed at the cabins the first week of January. Our home base is Animal Kingdom but we decided to try the cabins and we had a great time. The cabin had plenty of room for all of us. There is porter service. We flew into Orlando airport and were taken to Fort Wilderness by the Magical Express. Disney picked up our luggage and delivered it to our cabin. They do request that you give them 3 hours. They will also pick it up and take it to the outpost checkout, also 3 hours before departure. They will take it and get it placed on your flight out of the Orlando airport if you are flying on one of the airlines they have an agreement with. Also, they can arrange your boarding pass at the oupost checkout area, again with these certain airlines and atleast 3 hours before your flight.

Is there still a bus to WL? Are there buses to the TTC? Allears.net has this mentioned in their write up but I don't see it on the maps/descriptions I've printed.
We didn't see a regular bus that only went from FW to Wilderness Lodge although several of the buses that went to the theme parks and Downtown Disney ran to both FW and WL.

Is it anymore difficult to get to ADRs then any other resort? We're thinking of Kona Cafe and of course Chef Mickey's and I'm just trying to figure out what the best way would be to get there. Looks like theres a boat to CR so that might be the easiest way to both ADRs.
We only went to the theme parks, AKL and Downtown Disney. To get to other resorts we took the bus to Downtown Disney and then caught the bus to the individual resorts(ie. AKL). We rarely had to wait more than 5 to 10 minutes for a bus.

Are taxis around like they are at other resorts?
We didn't see many taxis but you can call one to pick you up at the outpost check in area.

If I order groceries, will someone deliver them to our cabin or would we have to pick them up at the Outpost?
We were told that non-DVC members could but since we were DVC members and FW isn't a DVC resort we couldn't. I'm not sure of the reason why.

We're a family of 5 - could we all fit in a golf cart? DD3 could sit on my lap if thats allowed.
Yes unless all 5 of you are large adults. We didn't lease a cart because they ran $53 a day and we never had to wait for the buses when we were inside FW.

You're welcome. We immensley enjoyed our trip. We did the whole 10 yards....the camp fire and movie wih Chip and Dale, Whoop-De-Doo and watching the fireworks at the MK from the beach. Taking the boat to MK was also fun and easy.

I hope your family has as much fun as we did.Good luck! :yay:

Thank you so much for your replies. Sounds like I have nothing to be concerned about. Information is the key.:thumbsup2

mickeyluvr004: The only reason I asked about the TTC is that in the write up on allears.net about the transportation it mentions taking the TTC bus to board the theme park buses there. There is no mention of the buses going to FW. It mentions the boat to MK and a bus to one of the other parks but for the other 2 parks it said to take the bus to the TTC. Weird - most be very old info. I think they better update their info.

Anyways thanks again. We're looking forward to our stay at FW. :goodvibes

Just a couple of updates...

We stayed in a cabin Dec 07 with Myself, DW, DD17, DD16, DD10, DD5 and DGS7months....the bathroom was hard for me to get into with all those females, but it worked out ok!! We were comfortable and would stay in a cabin again in a heartbeat.

They do have coffee filters now in the cabins....the coffee is actually already inside of the filter. Just drop the coffee/filter pouch into the coffee maker and add water.

There IS a bus that runs to WL, its the SAME bus that goes to MGM(now known as Hollywood Disney) and you can get to the TTC by way of the boat to MK, then hop on the monorail or ferry from MK to TTC. But there is a bus for ALL of the parks at FW, including the water parks.

There IS a grocery store that delivers to FW cabins, and its not as pricey as I would have thought. http://www.gardengrocer.com/

A golfcart is not at all NECCESSARY, but they sure are convenient and alot of fun if you can swing the price. There's a golfcart rental in Haines City called Carl's Carts that might be able to save you some money...(863) 421-2095. And Disney DOES offer 10% off if you rent one for a full week.

We had early morning ADRs as well as late evening ADRS...was only late to ONE of them and thats because I couldnt get my kids to move any faster than sleeping snails!!!

Enjoy your family vacation.

Edited to add: Awesome job on the weight loss by the way. That is so awesome you must feel so much better. Last year I lost most of the weight I wanted to but this year is the year to lose the rest and get in shape. 2008 is the year!
