Hi Guys,

thanks for all your help so far with my questions, just another few,

1) during the actual race are their portaloos on course? or just at the holding area prior to the race?

2) ive seen online that as you enter the stadium it looks like your running out of the TOT, is their anyway to obtain a photo like that during the event as it looks pretty neat?

3) i have a small digicam that i plan on takign with me for character shots during the race, would you guys recommend a neck strap for ease or just hold it?

4) what is the ettiquete for a race to overtake somone? ive never ran a proper race before

5) my pace has increased to 12mins/mile farthest distance ive done so far is 5 miles, when would you recommend increasing the mileage? im hoping to be doing a regular 8 mile walk at a 12-13min/mile walk before the race so then i will feel more comfortable during the race

6) obviously the conditions will be humid race night and will be hotter than the UK when i arrive i have 3 days until rundisney, would you recommend doing a few miles each night up until the day before the race to get a feel for the night running conditions in florida?

6) is their anywhere on property to buy some lucazade energy chews or energy chews for the race?

and finally 7) what are you allowed to be carrying during the race? are bumbags (fannypack) even allowed?

thanks in advance again guys your all being very supportive. :flower3:

Yes, and real restrooms, as well, in WWOS and DHS.

2) ive seen online that as you enter the stadium it looks like your running out of the TOT, is their anyway to obtain a photo like that during the event as it looks pretty neat?
Good question that I can't answer - I didn't even realize that was happening until a week later, lol!

3) i have a small digicam that i plan on takign with me for character shots during the race, would you guys recommend a neck strap for ease or just hold it?
I recommend holding it and using a wrist strap as an extra precaution.

4) what is the ettiquete for a race to overtake somone? ive never ran a proper race before
If it's a wide open space, I really don't think it's necessary to do or say anything. But if you're passing someone in close proximity, you'll wnat to give notice. A simple "Excuse me" or "On your left (or right)" is good.

5) my pace has increased to 12mins/mile farthest distance ive done so far is 5 miles, when would you recommend increasing the mileage? im hoping to be doing a regular 8 mile walk at a 12-13min/mile walk before the race so then i will feel more comfortable during the race
I HIGHLY recommend following a training plan. Jeff Galloway's plans are very good, especially for those who walk or run/walk. You may also want to check out Hal Higdon's plans.

6) obviously the conditions will be humid race night and will be hotter than the UK when i arrive i have 3 days until rundisney, would you recommend doing a few miles each night up until the day before the race to get a feel for the night running conditions in florida?
Nope, unless you trained that way (mileage every day). You want to go into a race rested. I live in FL so I have no advice about acclimating, but I don't recommend extra mileage right before a race.

6) is their anywhere on property to buy some lucazade energy chews or energy chews for the race?
There will be some vendors selling gels and chews at the expo, but if you have a favorite, I'd bring it.

and finally 7) what are you allowed to be carrying during the race? are bumbags (fannypack) even allowed?
I saw all manner of things last year, from fitted waist pouches to backpacks to a Gucci handbag. With what happened at the Boston Marathon, I wouldn't be surprised to see that change, but we don't know yet. As a runner, I recommend carrying the smallest thing you can get away with, just in the name of comfort.

many thanks for all your help/advice very helpful.

hope to see you raceday!! :thumbsup2

If at all possible, enter some runs during your training. That will help you figure out the etiquette. I know that's what I plan on doing! Though for me it's mainly that I don't want to get in the way of faster people. :)

Bring any gels, etc, that you are used to. Especially if it's something you cannot get in the States. Train with the things you might want to use in the race, and don't change from it during the race no matter how tempting something might be. While I don't have personal experience with this my brother does. He was on his way to a PR in a marathon when he got tempted by some gu or gel or something, and was incredibly sick because of it. Slowed him down massively and it's one of his biggest disappointments. Don't try ANYTHING new on the day of a race.

I second bringing your own nutrition... Lucazade is nearly nonexistent here in the states.

I would run a couple 3-5 mile runs or at least a regular weekday distance run. This will help shake out the legs after your flight over here. One of the better ways of acclimating to the weather is to be out in the weather. I would not do much in the way of pushing prior to the race and keep a water bottle handy so you stay hydrated. The humid weather will zap fluids and you may never know it.

With regard to what can you carry in a race... As stated in the past there have been a little of everything. Keep tuned to runDisney as the race nears to see what, if anything, will not be allowed on course. I know EMMI/Track Shack held a 5 k the week following Boston and no back packs were allowed anywhere near the course.
