Just thinking about further trips to Paris and beyond - as I'm toying with the idea of Eurocamp and a small visit to DLRP within that. The ferry to Amsterdam (IJmuiden) is very convenient for us with the car - literally 15 mins drive. Sadly, there are no other stops offered from our local DFDS port! :worried:

So, just wondering whether it would be quicker/less hassle to get ferry to IJmuiden and drive through the continent to get to Paris or drive down to Dover and get the ferry to Calais?

Anyone gone via Amsterdam before?

I just don't fancy the drive down to Dover or Eurotunnel in the UK as the roads are always so busy and it's a long way for us! And I've heard that driving on the continent is much less stressful/busy? :confused3

Paris-Amsterdam is about 5H15/5H30 without breaks. It all depends on your type of car and your cruising speed and how many times you stop ;)

Calais to DLP is about 3 hours drive. So I imagine in total the driving time would be longer if you drove down to Dover/Folkestone and then from Calais to Paris but the Eurotunnel is only 30 minutes so the overall total travelling time may be less?

Thanks for that Carrie - it will possibly be about the same times then but from what I have been told, the driving is much easier on the continent! I would think we will need to stop a few times, we could possibly get away with only a short stop if the driving was later at night (assuming the girls would sleep in the car). But I think the way the timetable is, we would arrive in Amsterdam early/mid morning.

It's just an idea at the moment. Wish we could get the ferry to Calais from here - there was talk of it a few years back but I'm guessing due to the recession, it never happened :confused3.

Failing that, it would be flights over and collect a hire car for the duration which might be just as expensive - in fact even more when you factor all costs in! Hmmm....
