Has anyone else noticed the price increase to travel by ferry?

We booked during the 50% off promotion and I priced up the P&O ferry for our dates (18-23 Dec) and it came in at around £70. I didn't book at the time because I wanted to 'shop around'. Having revisited the site it now weighs in at a hefty £120!!

Having tried to find a reason why I found out that Seafrance have suspended all sailings until assurances can be made for the future after an attempted takeover.

Does this mean P&O are taking advantage of the lack of direct competition and hiked thier prices?

The price is the same if we were to travel tomorrow, next week or during our dates. I am going to wait until the Seafrance issue has been sorted to see if P&O drop thier prices again. Just another example of rip off Britain!!

Have you looked at the tunnel prices, we are only paying £80 return and with our tesco vouchers its costing me £0!!!

Snap! Our price is £93 which we are paying with Tesco vouchers, so in effect it's free.

We have only used the ferry twice and find the tunnel much quicker and more convenient.

We have looked at the Tunnel as an alternative and it has always been the expensive option.

Currently P&O are £120 and the Tunnel is £175 for the date and time we want to go.

Unfortunately, Tesco vouchers are not an option because they are going towards our Melin Annual passes.

I am going to hold out to see if the Seafrance situation changes. Once the competition is back hopefully the prices will return to normal!!!

It could have been worse, we could have already booked Seafrance and lost our money!!

I priced up a daytrip in October & P&O were wanting £60 whereas Seafrance was £25, it was a no brainer! P&O have always been expensive & I much prefer SeaFrance providing its their 2 bigger ships

Both Seafrance & P&O have been making a loss on the cross channel service for years, Seafrance is mainly owned by the French government whereas P&O have other areas such as cargo, cruises which help offset the loss.

Having said that when we went on the daytrip the Seafrance ferry was full to capacity whereas there wasn't many waiting to board the P&O. I still think P&O are way overpriced for their service.

P&O have been doing offers too, they are all struggling as a ferry has to sail even if they only have 1 passenger, unlike airlines where they can cancel the flight or move the passengers onto another one.

One less night away would have made it cheaper on the Eurotunnel as the short saver trip covers 4 nights away and is normally available from £80 to £100 return. As soon as you want more than 4 nights away it goes upto about £150 return
