I am a total novice when it comes to gardening. I just started gardening 2 weeks ago.
I planted a vegetable garden and this week, they sprouted. I was excited and now eager to plant more. I started planting flower beds around trees at my mother's property and my next project is planting flowers along her fence posts.

My question is this; what type of flower would look good and is sure to grow in SW Florida. I am thinking Sunflowers b/c they get so tall and remind me of the countryside.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Welcome to the world of garden and congratulations on your first success. Gardening is a fun and rewarding hobby.
I like the idea of the sunflowers and how about stock? There are different colors and they also grow tall.

I'd look around the neighborhood to get ideas. IMHO, it's the easiest way to find out what will do well in your area. Local garden centers are sometimes helpful too.
Sunflowers are a great start, they're hardy and beautiful. For under trees you might try orchid vinca. It looks like an impatiens but it's hardy tolerates heat, drought and sun or shade. It comes lovely shades of pink too. I used to grow in my pool returns because it was the only plant that could take pool water being splashed on it. Now that's hardy!
