Breast reduction, have you had it? Does insurance cover it if it really seems to be necessary. If you have this surgery do they also put things back into place, so to speak?

I know my cousin had to have it, I dunno if it was covered. It should be though if they're interfering with your wellbeing (back and such...).

Hi I had mine done Aug 2004 and it has been great !!! I was a 42 DD and am now a 38 C (should have lost some weight that was hiding underneath those babies but oh well) I have no more back or neck strain and my headaches have cut back dramiticly . best part is now I can RUN well Jog around with my kids (and not get the wind knocked out of me -or worse- or hurt any little kids !! :rotfl2: ) and while insurance did cover alot I still ended up paying roughly $1200 which I thought was high but it was worth every penny. best of luck with your decision --- oh and yes they do hitch them up where they belong!!! Michelle

I think 1200. would be a bargain. I have very good insurance and if any would cover it I'd bet they would. But I want to lose some weight first. I've just begun a very serious weight loss attempt. The weight loss I think will give me a better idea of how much I want taken off.

I beg you all to stop, just to think about this makes me sad

I was talking to my best friend today. I told her I went on a search for a bra yesterday and came up empty handed. I can't find one in my size or near my size. When I told her my size, she told me to forget the bra and just go get a reduction.:p She had one when she was 14 yo and highly recommends having it done.

I've seen the reductions on the Discovery Channel though and I don't think I could go through that much pain.

I know someone who had one done. She is much more comfortable. However, she also needs to lose weight, and the reduction made her abdomen (and everything else) look even larger than previously. Unless you are thin, I would try to lose weight first.

Yep, had one in Oct. 2001. The best thing I ever did for myself. I went from a DD cup to a C. My insurance paid every penny. Sometimes they require a certain amount of grams of breast tissue to be removed, if you don't meet that requirement, they might not pay. I was very borderline for the requirement, but they approved it anyway. It really wasn't that painful, and yes, they do put stuff back in place, lol! Oh, and I did lose quite a bit of weight before I went in for my first consultation with my plastic surgeon. The insurance companies often want the patient to lose some weight first.

A lot of women get a tummy tuck as well as the reduction (I didn't). After my surgery, my belly was so bloated from all the meds, etc. I couldn't believe that my stomach was bigger than my ****s!! The bloating went down, however, after a few weeks, then I continued to lose a little more weight.

My DH's cousin had hers reduced...Most was covered by insurance because of back problems but you have to show you have been having problems for a while... I read somewhere that a reduction hurts more and takes longer to heal then getting implants.. I am a 38 D almost DD and I HATE my breasts...I am just too scared to have surgery done...

:scratchin , hmmm, yes I do remember them being rather large :worship:

I figured this. Hence the losing weight first. Believe me guys, it's no fun when you hit a certain size. I also imagine that the real thing in a size DD is heavier and gravity effect them more then the artificial ones. They always seem so perky no matter how big.

I've heard that of all the cosmetic surgeries available, breast reduction has the highest satisfaction rate. I'm seriously considering it as well. Just trying to figure out if the risk of surgery is worth the benefits.

I had mine in 1988. One of the 2 best things I have ever done for myself. I don't know what size I wore exactly as the largest bra I could find was an F cup and it was too small. I was lucky enough to have double insurance at the time so it was completely covered, every penny. No problem meeting the requirement since the doc removed just over 8# of tissue. It was very painful and recovery took a good couple of months but I'm pleased with the results. I have to 2nd whoever said losing weight first is a good idea. I was fine with mine but when I lost 150# they went first and now look like 2 deflated balloons just hanging there. It sounds ridiculous but if I had the money I'd have implants put in because there really is NOTHING in them anymore. I wear padded bras now. Not something I EVER thought I'd do! But I still don't regret it.

I had mine in 2002. Yes, it was covered, but then again, my husband is military. From what i understand, most insurances will cover it almost 100% if you meet a certain criteria. My only problem with it was that i wanted to be down to a B cup, i'm still a D, but i guess thats better than the 42DDD that i was! Good luck! Now if i could just get the insurance to pay for the lipo...............

A good friend of mine just had it done and went from a DD to a C. They also gave her a lift and made them nice and perky. Her breasts look 16 again :)

I had mine done back in 93. Went from 40DD to 34B. I have a small body frame, so to have the reduction was a good thing. I still can't believe it when I look at 40DD bras today. A person can put their head in one cup...lol. As someone else said, my hubby is military so it was covered 100%. (we had I think $25 co-pay). Back then it took alot of fighting to get even the military to cover it. They felt as if the procedure was cosmetic. I still have the bill from the hospital. It was $11,751.92 :earseek:

I have to say it was the best cosmetic surgery I could ever get. I would do it a second time if I had to. I can run without holding myself. I am no longer in pain. I can even sleep without a bra and could not before. I say if you have the money and can do it, then don't hesitate. The scars are there, but fade after I think a year then they are sort of white (well, if you are a white person). I think my surgeon did a fantastic job. Even with the scars, I look 10 times better than I did before. Sure, I can't wear plunging necklines because the scars toward the center of my chest are then exposed, but I was not able to wear them before the surgery either for need of a bra. I have no regrets.

I have to 3rd that comment as well. After say 10 years (12 for me) and not only weight gain and loss, but also age being a factor........simply put.......you sag slightly/lose mass in the upper portions of the breasts. I often think I am crazy for wanting implants to fill in the upper portion of my breasts. Don't get me wrong. I don't regret the surgery and am happy with my size. I just need more on the top half
