I have a question about the Disney "look". It makes references to makeup as being natural in shade with subdued tones. At least that is how I interpret it. I do not wear heavy makeup, however, I want to know this:

Is it against the rules to wear eyeliner or eyeshadow like purples, blues or greens? Nothing toxic or severely bright, mind you. I just want to know the exact limitations on this.

thanks

I don't know for a fact, but "eyeshadow like purples, blues or greens" does not sound natural at all. Natural generally means colors that are close to skin tones and unless someone has purple, blue, or green skin I don't think that'll work. Natural is subtle colors like browns, and light pinks, light peaches for paler people or those who can just make it work.

Hopefully Berlioz70 will come around and give you a specific answer since she is a Traditions host and has to check Disney look, but I can give you my two cents.

When I first got down to Orlando I chose to wear shades of beige, brown, and pink because like you, I wasn't sure what exactly they meant when it comes to their makeup standards. Over time I noticed that women did wear some color and so I worked some color in and occasionally wore purple. Like you said nothing electric but shades that complimented my skin tone and didn't stand out. I never had anyone say anything to me about wearing colors.

Now that being said, just because someone doesn't say anything doesn't mean its correct Disney look. I think that as long as you don't have absolutely ridiculous colors that stand out you will be fine. When you first get there is when your most scrutinized for Disney Look. You get checked at Casting when you check-in, before Traditions, and usually during Training. After that, it gets more lax. So at the beginning if your not sure I would just stick to neutral shades.

Thanks for your input. That's what I suspected, but, as you recommend, I will work it in gradually. When I think of natural, I think of things that do not attract attention, not necessarily certain colors. I will obviously do what is asked of me, but I am definitely going to take a good look around once I start working.

Also, (I guess now you have me wondering!) when you say you are scrutinized for the Disney Look, what exactly does that mean? I have visions in my head of someone looking at me under a microscope! What exactly do they do...examine your manicure and your earlobes or what? I'm hope I pass the inspection!

People can give their opinions and interpretations, but the only true answer you will get is if you contact the group that is responsible for it.

I wore black eyeliner and purple eye shaddow. I worked at BBB and the costumes were a light purple so I wore light purple sometimes to match but never to the extent where I would be told to remove it before going on stage. I think if you just use common sense as far as how dark it is, you'll be fine!

I agree with your post but also opinion are better too. Or look for some opinions at the internet sites. I do it usually with my unlimited broadband.

if you don't mind me asking, how much eyeliner did you wear? i was under the impression that we could barely wear any at all. i don't wear an obscene amount, but i do enjoy my eyeliner haha.

i worked at BBB and i wore bright purple and green eyeshadows and black eyeliner [mine's usually thick, i can never get a thin line :(] and was fine, but then some of them also wore purple glasses which isn't listed under the disney look, maybe it just depends on where you work.

ah okay. thats a relief. i also cannot manage to get a thin line no matter how hard i try haha.

That makes sense too. Since BBB is all about make-up and dress-up and sparkles it wouldn't be a shock if they decided to encourage the fairy godmothers in training to wear make-up since this is essentially what they're promoting. Wearing make-up that matches your costume would also add to the effect. On the other hand, I can't see someone working merchandise in a store in The Grand Floridian being allowed to wear bright anything on their face. If it doesn't fit your location and theme then obviously it's going to be distracting.

I was interested in this too, great question!
I love makeup, eyeshadows, blushes, etc, and I was a little bummed to read that I wouldn't be able to use them, but there's always your days off :)

I am also curious about how the inspection works... what can you expect to happen?

I was checked for Disney Look the most throughly at Casting on check-in day. They had people in a room whose only job was to make sure you met the Disney Look, and we were sent in to them one by one. They even had us turn around to check that our hair color was natural. As long as you are in Disney Look, there is nothing to worry about! You're in and out in about 10 seconds.

what exactly are they looking at? Makeup/nails? Visible tattoos? I know they want people to look presentable and natural, but I am suprised to hear that they actually call you into a room to do this one by one. Wow.

when i went fall advant 09 we didn't go in a room to get inspected, we just stood in line and they looked us over one by one and that was it. It was pretty easy.

As for eyeshadows just go crazy on your days off, or if you get an early shift, you can always go bright afterwards :D

that's what i'm going to do if i make it again for fall advant 11, i so want to work Haunted Mansion :D or American Idol [can't tell if the sleeves on american idol go down to the elbow or not, i have to have my tattoo covered]

On check-in day when they check you, do you have to be -dressed- in Disney Look? Or just hair/make-up/nails/tattoos?
