FEMA paid out $22,000,000 to 9000 people in Miami-Dade that had no hurricane damage.

That's what I was referring to. What a waste of taxpayer money. It irks me that people can't get a blue tarp over their roof which costs FEMA less than $200, but yet they hand out that kind of cash to people with no damage. I don't mind having my tax money go to help those who need it, as long as it's done in a fiscally responsible manner.

I am so sorry that you are going through this! I was just watching a report on CNN about Hurricane Katrina and Rita and was very surprised to hear that Michael Brown is still on FEMA'a payroll. He is being paid to be a consultant. He will be a consultant for FEMA on its' investigation into what went wrong during Katrina. Am I the only one who thinks that this is crazy??!!!

Nope but am I surprised?

Mrs. Kreamer,
Call the Red Cross. My mom told me they are giving families about 400.00 per family member to those that had to evacuate.I've been trying for days and its busy-but I'll keep trying.

Nothing entitles anyone to anything. We're all islands unto ourselves with the smart ones living in that perfect area that never has a natural disaster, never takes a dime of tax money and is filled with social Darwnists who never suffer an illness or lose a job and are always at the top of the food chain.

I wish I could be this articulate when my #%&@ mother makes some cold-hearted comment about how the federal government doesn't "owe us anything" and people should take some personal responsibility. It was not long ago that I was a renter with no insurance living paycheck to paycheck with credit card debt. If I lost everything at that time in my life I would have no hope of pulling myself out of that without help.

Wonderful, so some people are getting a second check while I am still waiting for the first??

You know sweetie, I think you need to get back on that phone and start talking to people in charge. Every FEMA representative you talk to has a number and is supposed to give it to you when they finish talking to you. I would find out what's going on and why have some people gotten 2 checks when you haven't got your first. If you find out something different, then you need to give the number of the associate to someone in charge so it can be handled properly. I don't think telling anyone that FEMA is "out of money" is professional one bit!! I can't be mad at FEMA though. When my apartment was destroyed after Hurricane Dennis, I had $500 show up in my account a couple weeks later, it was a blessing. It was our first months rent on where we are staying now.

Keep us posted and best to you. Just glad you're okay. Keep trying, be persistent, DO NOT give up.

Blessings,

Denise :sunny:

Feel free to use that quote because I have had it up to here with the social Darwinists.

The fact is we are a society and we have to watch out for each other. Looking down one's nose and becoming a Monday morning quarterback does no one any good and, frankly, could be detrimental to one's health when the person on the receiving end just lost their home. ;)

I agree with you 100%, but who do you think is the biggest stumbling block to an investigation.........FEMA. People are fighting tooth and nail to get what we are legally entitled to.

Here's another horror story. It is FEMA's job to pick up the debris. The firm they hired did such a half-assed job, the county had to hire another company to complete the job at the cost of millions. Good luck trying to get the money from FEMA.

I know I've been flamed for making this poltical, but is political. Our elected officials are in charge of FEMA and it's being done on their watch. And now I find out that incompetent ******* Brown still has his nose in the public trough. He can't testify unless on the public payroll? Puhleeeeeeze!

This is all politics and it is the responsibility of the one on who's watch the incompetence happens.

Actually, a lot of people have gotten help from FEMA. The distribution has been poorly executed and unequitable. And many people in Florida did get help from FEMA last year. In fact some folks got help even though no hurricane came near their county.

Anne

Yes, millions were handed out to folks who were not in last years hurricanes - they indicted 15 of the people filing false claims --- what about indicting the officials who knew they hurricane did not come near them?????

Mrs. Kreamer, I hope things start turning around for you.

I don't blame you - I would be pretty PO'ed myself!! Maybe you could call back and ask to talk to a supervisor? There has to be some way to get that money and if I were you, I wouldn't quit until I got it!!

Are you eligible for any of the Red Cross money? If so, I'd go ahead and try for that while you're waiting on FEMA.. Not much, I know - but I'm sure that every single penny helps right now..

Best of luck! :flower:

Just a note- We called FEMA and had a guy out at our house w/in 5 days. Because of a mistake with our insurance company,we had NO insurance. We had roof damage to our house, garage, etc. FEMA only covers the actual home even if the garage is attached. This is not a complaint just information. The guy was here on Thursday and yesterday we had a FEMA deposit in our checking account. Keep trying as I think you got a bum steer.Good Luck! Julie

Yes, very true! It was all over the news maybe seven months ago?

The President just announced not even 5 minutes ago that they (FEMA) will also be issuing $2000 checks to those impacted by Hurricane Rita, so they can't be out of money..

Get on that phone and hound the living daylights out of them!!!!

I know it just frustarates me because they never seem to run out of money for the things THEY want. I mean we can't afford to give out $2,000 grants, yet we can spend hundreds of billions in Iraq? Makes no sense.

Maybe they should just ask the president for more money....throw in the word "terror" and they should get what they ask for ;)...I can just picture it.

FEMA humbly TERROR requests an additional $500,000,000 to give out TERROR TERROR WAR ON TERROR grants to those affected by the TERRORIZING
Hurricane Katrina.

That would likeley work but then you would be having your neighbourhood bombed looking for terror cells left by Katrina LOL.

Sad, but true. FEMA did a crappy job last year, but no one noticed because Punta Gorda is a small community without a lot of national importance. Other than to our family and friends, no one would've missed us if we had fallen off the face of the earth last year. People are fighting mad, but getting nowhere with FEMA.

It's happening again with small communities in Louisiana and Texas. I just read today about the trouble Jasper, Texas is having and I've read about several others prior to that one.

Ok so I found out a few things. First off the girl I talked to was an idiot and the suporvisor after her wasn't too much better. I am under investigation for fraud. Come to find out my MIL put us down as her "household". I was afraid about this at first but they told me to still register b/c of personal property and b/c we had a child and were self-sufficant within her house(we are basically just renters who happen to be related) we would qualify as our own household. When I called MIL she said she would call them to straiten it out. Then I find out that not only did she register but so did her gf, who also livews there. They told her that only the owner of that home was elligable for the emergency funds regardless of renters. But because her gf also applied we are all under investigation. She called me back last night basically saying that she couldn't get through and that it was too much trouble anyway. So no FEMA for me I guess. It stinks, but if she isn't willing to correct it then what am I supposed to due.... :confused3

:grouphug:

Stephanie-

Have you contacted the Red Cross yet? Maybe they can help at least a little. I sent you a PM yesterday, let me know.
