fellow homeschoolers

Wait. You are homeschooled?

I used to be homeschooled. It was only for a year but I think it really helped me a lot. I think even people here can vouch that I changed A LOT during this past year.

Anyway, I think it's okay for the certain people. I don't usually support people homeschooling their kids all through their life though. I think school is a vital part of learning social skills. But doing it to speed up high school (get to college faster) is fine, IMO.

Yes, this is my first year.
During the summer thats all I heard was, about me being homeschooled.
But I whined and all until i got my way and didnt have to, so they finally let me go to school. Then the drama started I couldn't deal with all that I called my mom in the middle of World Geo, and said come get me now! And havn't stepped another foot in that school. I am in the 9th grade and planning on getting done with high school in the next 2 years. :)

That's similiar to what happened to me. I was just getting so fed up with being taught so slowly and the never ending drama of 1,000 teenagers so we were thinking about private school. One night when my mom was on the computer she came across a homeschooling program her co-worker had reccomended and bought the program THAT VERY NIGHT! I went to school the next day while she talked with the school board and during 5th period I heard my name come over the intercom. I smiled hugely, gathered my things and never looked back!

That last day went by in a second. I just sailed through the day so happy and excited about learning at my own pace. I actually danced in the car when we were pulling out of the parking lot. (9th grade btw.)

And here I am, one year later with a highschool diploma and having learned so much more about history, science, math and literature. In school we basically never got past the civil war in history so it was fabulous finding out all these things about the hippie movement, watergate scandal, even 9/11! And literature was amazing because the book was filled with all these poems, short stories and plays and I read everyone of them.

I'm homeschooled :] 10th grade, first year doing it. I'm using online school with flvs.net. I was in private school and I didn't like the big public school I would have had to go to this year because it had 3,000 kids[not slamming big schools, just not for me] so I decided to do this.

Which program was it? I'm not sure I like the system I'm using now and I was thinking about doing a different one next year.

I have been homeschooled for... 3 weeks now? Yeah, my mom decided to homeschool me because I kinda didn't go to school enough, lol. I like school, I just don't like going everyday...

But I think I'm going back next week, xD.

I have been homeschooled for about 3 years. I have a question for you fellow homeschoolers, what time do you usually wake up and start with your work.

my mom usually gets me out of bed between 9 and 10am.
I usually get started right then, then I stop about 11:30 or 12 to eat lunch.
Then get started again. I'm on block schedule, so I only have 4 classes
a semester.

It depends. For awhile I was waking up about 10:00 am, but lately it's been really late in the day. I need to get back in the habit of waking up earlier though.

Well, I got up about a 8 AM and started some work then while I ate breakfast. I'd get sleepy at about 11 so I'd take a little nap. Wake up, eat, do some more school.

Near the middle I was getting really really bad about it though. I wasn't going to be until 7 AM!

Wow, I feel bad for your school board.

Don't feel bad for my school board, I was just kidding. My mom decided to homeschool me for the rest of this year because I wasn't getting a proper education at my old school, the math program was absolute crap. I did miss a couple days, only because they were literally free days and I had no classes at all, just play time, which is pretty unacceptable for a middle school. Also, I've been sick quite a lot, bec ause I started the year off with mono. I just like my other explanation better bcecause it's a bit funnier, lol. Also, I'm not going back, I'm just trying to talk my parents into letting me because I don't want to miss the dance and the yearbook (I won something and I don't want to be taken out!).

I'm homeschooled, have been doing so all my life, and don't really care for it. Remember that thread we had a while back --just a short little thread-- asking about 'unschooling'? Well, I hadn't heard the term before then, but that's basically what we do. There was a reason it was approximately unanimous that amongst the posters in said thread that 'unschooling' is not the greatest idea ever. Our schedule and work are VERY unstructured and a lot of the time I feel like I'm not learning anything at all. It's just not working for me. :confused3

This is very true. :sad2:

Your parents won't consider public school? But if I remember correct you are in your late teens, correct? So start looking forward to college. If you feel like you might be behind then there's usually a wide range of 'starter' classes available to get you up to speed. Then you can just go on to your regular college level classes. There's nothing wrong with that.

I plan to take a starter class in algebra because I know my next year I will have basically forgotten it all. It only takes me a second to remember, but this class will help me remember it all. :)
