Do you receive a stipend to spend on your classroom? If so, how much and how often. We are having huge issues with this at my school right now and I am just wondering what the norm is.

EDIT:
Thanks for the responses. I had a minor battle with my assistant director (which will probably become a huge deal tomorrow with my actual director) because of a change in policy.

Each teacher at my school (a preschool) receives $30 a trimester to spend as needed. We spend the $$ and bring in the receipts. Then suddenly, last week, we receive notice that anything we want reimbursement for must be pre-approved. Fine. Then today we find out that we will not be reimbursed for anything that is not in required by the districts materials contract  Fine, great I will plan all lessons around materials that the children have been in contact with for the past several months. Can you say B-O-R-E-D. It's April and my little ones all have cabin fever. The teachers have been told for years to bring in new outside materials for the children to use during our instruction time. Now we are being told to just use what we have or trade off with other teachers. Every classroom has the same things. We have a materials contract so each classroom has what's on the list, there's no one to trade with we all have the same stuff.

Ok, ok I'm ranting. I don't really care that they will no longer reimburse us I just don't agree or understand the reasoning behind it. Besides the obvious cost. And....

I am going to get in so much trouble for questioning them about the change. I need a new job. :sad2:

Thanks for listening and answering.

If we put at least 4 hours into our classroom before school opens, we can have $50--but not cash. We spend it somewhere else and get reimbursed. For example, last year I got my DVD of "Tale of Two Cities" from BBC ($30 or $40) and used it for that to pay the CC.
Now this is the high school--I know elementary teachers work way more than 4 hours--but for me it's just putting paper on my bulletin board where I will have the calendar and menu all year long, sorting books, and pulling my doodads out of my desk that I hide in the summertime so they don't get lost when the janitors move my furniture into the hall to clean my floor.

We never got a specific amount, but at the end of the year we were allowed to turn in purchase orders for the following year. Our principal would review and either accept or reject. Many years I only ordered the basic supplies, but a few times I ordered extras and was able to get them. We were just given that one shot though. The rest of the year we were on our own and I ended up spending a lot of my own money.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Once a year we get $50 for our department to put together something for the 8th grade night at the high school. Most depts buy candy or pencils as bribes. I would much rather have the $50 at the start of the year to buy supplies. Occasionally we can buy something and submit it to the principal and we might get reimbursed.

We don't have to pay for copies on white paper, nor chalk. We have to buy everything else!

I work in a Catholic school, and the parent association gives us $250.00 a year. It is very generous and appreciated. They realize we don't make as much as public school teachers, so they compensate a little bit this way.

Not a teacher but the PTA at our elementary school will reimburse each teacher up to $50. They are asked to present receipts.

Our PTO reimburses each teacher $75/year after submitting receipts. Wish it could be more. :sunny:

Once a year we get $150.00 to spend on classroom supplies. We also receive supplies through some grant money (white boards, Expo markers).
