Fellow Couponers - HOW could this have been done?

The couple may have also used a gift card or store credit, which isn't a coupon, but the cashier may have misstated it a bit for effect. We bought a BBQ grill from the Home Depot for "free" because it was on sale, we had two coupons that were allowed, and we had several HD gift cards. The cashier said "Wow - a free grill!" because we didn't have to give her cash or a credit card, but technically, we paid more than half with the gift cards. (Which were from credit card points, but the cashier didn't know that.)

I'm a Publix shopper, too. Here in Florida, we don't have stores that do double coupons. I shop the sales...mostly the B1G1. I try to use a manufacturer's and a store coupon (our Publix just started taking Target coupons). This week, for example, they had Snyder's pretzels on sale for $1.50. I used a $1.00 Snyder's manufacturer's coupon and a $0.50 Publix coupon, so the pretzels were free.

Hotcouponworld and IHeartPublix are great sites because they match up the sales flyer with available coupons.

I shop FL Publix and sadly no coupon doubling where I am.

One possible explaination for some of the savings may have been incorrect price ring ups.

My area Publix will give you the item for free if it rings up incorrectly.

For example, last week I bought a 6 pack Barber foods chix product. It is normally $13.99 or so. There was a sign on them for $9.99. I also had a $1 off any Barber chix product manufacturer coupon.

When the product scanned it rang up as the $13.99. I mentioned it to the cashier and she had the bag boy run back to check. He came back and confirmed that the signs stated $9.99.

So it was removed from my bill and rerang at $0 (so there was no tax on it). But she had already taken my $1.00 coupon off. So in reality I paid negative $1.00 for this item.

I have never heard of the grocery store actually giving money back though if the savings total higher than the expense.

Dear Fellow Couponers,
I just went to Publix, armed with my coupons and felt good, UNTIL I went to my one of three usual cashiers and he said that a lady and her husband just left. Their total was $389.00 and Publix had to actually pay them $3.02 after coupons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just don't understand how they didn't pay for anything. For example, let's say that Clorox wipes are 2 for $4.00 and you buy 1 so that is $2.00. If you have a coupon for $1.00 off, that still leaves you paying $1.00, correct? Is he saying that they used 2 $1.00 coupons for that one product so it was free? I thought that stores would only take one coupon per item, and most are manufacturer coupons anyway.

PLEASE advise!!!!!!! Thanks - Diane:confused3:confused3:confused3

It's definitely possible, my husband loves finding great coupon deals. He loves the website southernsavers.com a B1G1 free deal stacked with a coupon can mean the store might owe you money. I don't know enough about it though, he enjoys it more than I do.

I've never done it buy I have a cousin who once went to Shaw's and had to buy a pack of gum because after they got done with all her coupons the store owed her a little bit of money.

Where do u get your $10/$100, etc. coupons from? I used to get $5/$25 from Publix, but didn't get them that often and haven't gotten them in a while.

Our township has a recycle program through Recycle Bank (recyclebank.com). Every week I earn points based on the weight of my recyclables (about 60 points per week). I am able to redeem those points for various coupons. I just redeemed some points for a $10 off $100 purchase, $5 off Huggies, Buy one get one free Huggies (up to $9.99), (4) $1 off any Coca Cola product. They also have coupons for other things like $5 off $10 purchase at bowling alley, $10 off $50 at Dick's Sporting Goods, etc...

I worked at a grocery store for several years and did just about every job on the front end. We had a policy that your coupon could not exceed what you paid. Our registers wouldn't let us and we would have to adjust the coupon. Also, if it was say a .99 item and you had a .50 mfr we would only double it to .49. Our registers did that automatically.

That's the way the stores around here do it too.

It is possible the cashier was pulling your leg a bit.

Thanks everyone for your input. But I have another questions - what is a "store" coupn and how do I get them? Like for Publix, is it the coupons in the Advantage Buyers flyers you are talking about?

Thanks - Diane :confused3

Publix occasionally has printable coupons online like these: http://publix.shoplocal.com/publix/default.aspx?action=entryflash& (click the first circular under the "Additional Ads" link on the right). If you go to some of the sites like Southern Saver, you'll find matchups for their store coupons + mfg. coupons when available. They also send out coupon booklets on a regular basis, I think.

FYI: if you're going to WDW and are going to do any grocery shopping like we are, since we're staying in my timeshare, you can print these coupons out, too. :thumbsup2

"Store" coupons are marked at the top of the coupon in the manufacturer coupon field as "Publix coupon," " Target coupon," or sometimes it just says "store coupon." That means that coupon cannot be used anywhere but that store. Now, Publix does take other store's store coupons, so Publix is the exception to this.

someitmes when I buy 2 or 3 of something, a coupon spits out saying "good for $3 off your next grocery store visit".

Se up enough of those and you can buy groceries for cheap or FREE.
