Can anyone give me a rough estimate on what they've paid for checked golf clubs on a flight? With all the new baggage charges I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what it will cost to fly my DH's clubs down to MCO:confused:

Check the Airlines, Southwest Free, others about $25 for second bag less than 50 lbs

He will probably be flying Delta. I checked their website, and it states that there is a 25.00 fee for 2nd checked bag, plus charge for over 50 lbs, plus charge for oversize. DH claims that his clubs inside his soft-sided case will be just below the weight and oversize limits, but I've heard that people have thought their bags were within the limits and were charged extra fees at the airport because their bags were "close" to weight and oversize limits. Any one with any recent experience with this?

We have never paid any extra to take our golf clubs and we take 2 sets every year. They have always just counted as 1 piece of our luggage.

Now of course there are not many airlines out there who let you take 2 bags free so you will likely being paying to take the other bag.

I don't know how many days you'll be golfing, but our last trip my husband was only getting 1 golf day in. He used golfclubsaway.com. They deliver the clubs to your hotel or golf course for free. I think it cost $25 or $35 for the day. It was worth it for him because he didn't have to lug them back/forth to the airport.

They also have pretty decent rental clubs at the WDW courses (Titleist or Cobra clubs with graphite shafts and a Scotty Cameron putter) for $55. The gentleman we played with on the 26th rented a set and they looked good. I know I'd rather play with my own clubs, but it's nice to know it's an option.
