Fees and other charges...

I am wondering, in addition to the buy in costs, what other fees are there, and how much are your annual dues? Is it so much per point?

Additionally, does your term expire at some point in the future?

After the initial purchase, the only 'fees' would be your annual dues. These are based on a per-point basis and currently run about $3.40 - $4.20 or so per point, depending on your home resort. Historically annual dues have risen at less than 3% per year.

DVC ends on January 31, 2042

I was wondering how this turned out to be a good deal, and that explains it.

Do the point rates at the resorts ever go up? As in this year, it cost say 20 points for a room, next year 22 points?

Points can be re-allocated within the chart, but the total number of points can not increase. In other words, if points increase somewhere, they must decrease somewhere else. This has only happened once (1996?) at OKW.

Another reason that DVC is a good deal is that as the cost to buy goes up, so does the amount of $$ you would get if you had to sell your points for some unforseen reason. I purchased in 1997 for $54 per point, and resales are currently selling for $73-$79 per point. What this means to me is that I have vacationed all this time for just maintenance costs, since I can recoup my original investment if I need to. Of course, this can change, but so far my DVC has outpaced my annuites, treasury bonds, and stock market investments, where I am lucky to just stay even.

There are occational other fees - like the $75 for booking non-DVC (? someone will correct me here cause I'm not clear on exactly when $75 gets charged) accomodations. There is a room switching charge also -- if you check in and want to be moved, they can charge you a fee for moving. Housekeeping is fairly light (a "trash and towel" on day four and a full cleaning on day eight) so there is additional charges if you want your room cleaned more often.

But, all in all, its a pretty good deal. Especially if you are a content person who is going to use your points for DVC, not move around the resort six times a vacation, and won't miss housekeeping.
