Feeling overwhelmed

I know this is ridiculous, but I am feeling totally overwhelmed by the thought of trip planning Having spent all week checking the weather forecast hoping for rain so that I can hide myself away, just me, the internet and my guidebooks - I rushed out first thing yesterday, got all the books - discovered this wonderful site and then began to panic!!

I know how lucky we are to be going (9 weeks today we will be there) me, DD (10) and DS (12) - and it's not like it's our first trip - but this year my exDH will be joining us and he is already looking like a rabbit trapped in the headlights at our enthusiasm for all things Disney!

Given him the Brits Guide and told him to have a read through and let me know what he would like to do - I've toned down my constant rabbiting about touring plans, early arrival at the parks and ADRs - but am still not sure where to start!!

I know once we get there and the magic takes over he will be converted, but for now I feel like I am planning a secret operation and can't share the joy!

And so to my question - where would you take a newbie on your first full day (which for us will be the 29th July)?

Whichever park is the quietest on 29th July, check Brit updates on askdaisy.net. I don't think it matters which park because they are all stunning and unique in their own right, and he won't have experienced anything like it before.

And don't panic, just plan as you would normally but take in all the parks to give your exDH a chance to experience them all.

i don't care how busy it is.....magic kingdom has to be the 1st park we visit !!

Yep its got to be Magic Kingdom, the first sight of the castle is wonderful! Plus I think MK eases you in gently, somewhere like Epcot could be a bit overwhelming on the first day due to its size.

another one here for the Magic Kingdom on your first day!
Also try not to get to stressed out over it all, you will enjoy your first holiday there whether its a military or go with the flow, there is so much to see and do, you will becoming back and booking again!!
we very rarely do itineries we just take each day and decide what to do in the morning.

I am a chronic list maker and note taker.....It seems to help me digest the sheer magnatude of WDW information that is available. I'd love to be a fly on the wall to see your exH reaction to his kids enjoyment! It's so difficult to explain the magic to those who haven't witnessed it firsthand. And I think setting expectations with one's traveling companions (regardless of family, friends, exH, whoever) is important for a smooth trip.

The adult "newbies" that I've gone with over the years are always surprised at how much they enjoy WDW. They go in thinking it's just another amusement park and come out saying they just can't believe how much fun they have. Good Luck!

We always go to animal kingdom first but the first time we went it was not built yet. We like to save magic kingdom and start off with the parks we least like!!!

This is so true.People where I work say to me they think alton towers is amazing.To me it is pathetic (sorry alton towers fans ),compared to Disney.As we went last November they are saying Why are you going back there again?Mickey mouse land.Then they tell me they are going to Majorca,to lie by the pool and consume loads of alcohol.To me that is boring and sustains no excitemant what so ever.When I try to explain the magical feeling and actully sheading tears when you enter these parks they look at me gone out.I always do MGM first as I LOVE this park. Its is an easy one to do on the first day as it is the smallest.I always save magic kingdom to about the 3rd day and normally do a half day there first and save the whole day till towards the end of the holiday.

Its MK for us on the first day. We always get their for the rope drop you just cant beat it and I challenage anyone who say they can.

Love the other parks but love MK the most - it has so many childhood memories for me that it just has a certain 'magic' about it

Another vote for Magic Kingdom! Only been to Florida once before back in 1998 and we did Magic Kingdom first - I just remember my friend and I oohing and ahing at Snow White and the 7 dwarfs and being blown away by Main Street USA and the Castle!!

This year we arrive on the Thursday afternoon and are meeting friends of ours (who's holiday happens to overlap with ours) for a character breakfast at the Grand Floridian then it's straight off the MK and I can't wait!!!

MK just puts you right in the Disney mood!

Thank you so much for all your suggestions - after spending the weekend ignoring the kids with my nose buried in the guide books and seeing what you guys have to say, i am now over the blues and back in full on excitment Looks like MK is the winner!!
