Feeling of lump in the throat?

I get a feeling of a lump in my throat (similar to when you cry, but I'm not crying), sometimes after I eat, sometimes not.

I know this can be related to GERD - which I've been diagnosed with and take medicine for - and ulcers - which I had but are cured per an endoscopy 2 weeks ago.

I've also googled and found it can be related to anxiety, which I have in abundance.

Anyone else ever have this? what was the cause and how was it fixed - if it was?

My best friend just had the same symptoms and it ended up being a benign growth on her thyroid.

I hope you figure it out soon.

I have the same type of feeling when my vocal nodules swell. I'm sure it could be lots of different things.

I have had a HUGE amount of stress over this last year. I constantly felt like I had a lump in my throat. I would swallow, and swear I could feel it. Well, things started getting better and my anxiety slowly decreased....I am lump free now.:)

That's exactly the feeling I explained to my doctor a few years ago. My thyroid was enlarged. Your doctor will order blood work to check your thyroid levels, and maybe some other tests.

I get this feeling with GERD. I am on medication but I also take chewable papaya when my GERD acts up.
I also get this feeling with allergies. I always thought it was my GERD until I mentioned it to my gastro and he said that it was probably allergies since I was on meds.

I was going to say the thyroid as well. I have many nodules on my thyroid and at times I have a hard time swallowing.

I had this sensation when I was having sinus/allergy issues. I didn't really *know* I was having them but that's what it was.

I did have nodule on my thyroid once but it did not give me that symptom. I only had the symptom after it was removed.

It could also be that while your GERD might be treated and your stomach/eshophagus look good, it still goes up to your throat and could be irritating that area. They can't really see that when they do an endoscopy. An ENT usually uses a different camera to view the vocal chords.

I would ask for thyroid testing as well.

I did have trouble swallowing and the endoscopy showed nothing other than the reflux I knew I already had.

The ENT used the scope and saw the vocal chords too.

My situtuation did not turn out well.

Wishing you all the best.
