We go to disney every year but always stay in the hotels....next year we are considering pulling down our camper and staying 2 weeks. I feel so lost and overwhelmed. How do I know what loop to select...is there a listing what each loop is..preferred, premium etc....Are you allowed to fish with your own equipment? Can you bring your own kayaks and use them on the lake? Where is the best place to go to find out the general knowledge of the campground.

Thanks in advance
Kelley

Never fear, the wonderful people on this board will be able to answer all your questions! :thumbsup2 Shan is your man for loop questions, and if it's fishing you want to know about, Frank is your man! Welcome! :cool1:

Yes, you can use your own fishing equipment. All fishing is catch and release.

No you can't bring your own kayaks, boats, etc., but they do have canoes and kayaks, and paddle boats for rent.

Loops

Loop 100-300 Preferred (Water, Electric, Cable, Sewer, sand area, close to marina) Loop 300 is a Pet Loop

Loop 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400 - Premium (Water, Electric, Cable, Sewer, All concrete, generally near the center of the campground. (Not sure on pet loops, somebody else can answer that).

Loop 1500, 2000 - Partial Hookup, Water, Electric, Cable, large sand area. 1500 is centrally located, 2000 is kindof remote, but quiet.

Loop 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900 - Full Hookup, Water, Electric, Cable, Sewer, varying size sand areas, further away from some areas. All are Pet Loops.

So basically, you pick what level of site you want to pay for, then on Loops it is better to request what you want to be near. Do you want to be near the marina, do you want to be near the pool?? What size rig do you have. Tell them that and also tell them if you want to be near transportation, or near the comfort station. Asking for a specific loop generally may get you a less than ideal site for your rig.

You CANT bring your own boats, you CAN fish with your own gear, but you CANT keep anything you catch(catch & release only), dont let loop selection stress you out....so many folks worry so much about what loop they should or shouldnt request, and its really not something to stress over....all you really NEED to know is if you prefer a premium over a regular full hook up...let the reservations office stress over all of that for you....there arent any BAD LOOPS anymore. The 1900 loop used to be considered the BAD LOOP...but so many improvements have been made to the campground recently, that the best way to look at it is WE'RE CAMPING AT DISNEY....IT "CANT" BE LESS THAN AWESOME!!!!!

You guys are gonna be soooooo glad that youve made the decision to camp versus staying in a room somewhere. Welcome to Fort Fiend-ism...you will be fiending for another trip by the time you are pulling out of the Fort's gate!!

I am going to echo what BDR said about not fretting over what loop to select. Don't worry about it. There are lots of different opinions about what loop is best, and what you will find is that this is just personal preferences. I have been placed on loops (e.g. the 1000 loop) that I thought I would never want to camp on, and ended up liking it. There are pros and cons to any loop. So, since you have never been, focus on what level of loop to request, and then don't worry about what loop you get. I agree that there is no bad loop, so I would suggest that you go with the least expensive level available for you, and enjoy!

FISHING !!!!

Let's go fishing !!!

Ya'll are gonna have a GREAT time,,don't even stress over ANYTHING about the Fort, you'll see why, you'll love it ! :thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone for all the advice. Has anyone traveled down 1-75 and what is a good place to stop south of Atlanta? I will try to relax ....I am sure all will be great as we will be at Disney.

I don't know how far south of Atlanta you want to stop, but we originate in Atlanta and always stop in Lake City FL for the night. It gives us a nice break and allows us to enter FW at a reasonable hour for setting up without disturbing neighbors. There are several campgrounds in the Lake City area and a WalMart that we often see campers overnight in.

There was something that I meant to mention in my earlier post.

Back when a lot of the folks who post regularly here first visited the Fort, there was no Disboards. Heck, there was no Internet. And for some of the really old forts (typo intentional) that visit here, there weren't even any computers. We just went to the Fort and camped. We figured it out fine without all of the extra help and information that is now available on sites like this. And, somehow, we all survived.

The beauty of the Fort is that you can visit many times, and still discover something new, or re-visit something old. When you check in, just like at other WDW resorts, you will get a package containing all of the information that you need and more. No need to over-plan. No need to worry. Just go and have fun!

I have to agree about not worrying about the loop. I fretted and studied and faxed requests and fretted some more. Last trip, I almost panicked...I wasn't in the loop I requested and we were on the street side...oh the horror. I sulked about 10 minutes...until we met our neighbors and realized we were at the Fort. By the next morning, we appreciated our street access and all was good.

I think you can look at a Fort map, see what amenities you want to be close to related to the loop types and can always send your request in. There's no guarantee but they do try to accommodate. We were assigned to our requested loops twice and not assigned once.

Most importantly, enjoy the planning. With this board, it's almost as much fun as the trip.:surfweb:
