Feeling guilty

When my brother and I were growing up, my parents would go away for a week or so every summer. I think the first time was when I was 4. We stayed with my grandparents, who lived about 2 minutes away.

When my wife and daughters and I were down last August, the wife and I kept pointing out things we'd do when we were there by ourselves. We're going down this year as a family in November, but I think we're going to try for our trip by ourselves in Oct/Nov 2013 for our 15th anniversary. My parents live close by, but my mom would have to get my girls to school (it will be one of the only two years they ever go to school together, so it works!).

Knowing me, I'll feel really guilty unless I promise my girls that we'll go back with them.

No, I wouldn't go without my kids. But that's just me. I'm not saying it's wrong or you are a bad parent. I just wouldn't do it.

Although we are going on a cruise without our kids.

Assuming we like the cruise, however, next time we would bring the kids.
