Feeling better about DVC now!

I got a conformation today for the 2 days I had wait listed. I got Dec. 6-7 at Boardwalk Villas preferred view 44 points. Now, I did not have 44 points left in the 2002-2003 use year, so I have a question. Will DVC member services automatically borrow the points from the 2003-2004 use year, or do I need to do something myself to accomplish this? I only had 30 points left, so I would have to borrow 14 points.
As you will remember, I paniced and exchanged my points to get 4 days at the Contemporary Resort at 28 points per day. I only had 142 points available for this coming year, so that is why I came out short.

So, NOW I will be at the Dis Con every day except the 8th. Well, actually I will be there that day, but must leave that evening, and you know how it is when you are catching a plane - you can't plan anything except for the morning of that day.

When it comes to borrowing, they do that automatically, but banking you must do on your own!!:D

Glad to hear the wait list came through, but do not expect MS to automatically borrow points from your 2003/2004 use year. I was surprised to find that when I made my ressie via email earlier this year that MS did not use the points available for 2001/2002 first instead they used the 2002/2003 points. It was only when I called back to change the ressie several months later did another MS person bring this to my attention. Had she not, I would have lost all those points since I didn't bank them before the deadline date.

Do not assume with MS, they are human too! You would hope they know which to points to use first, but that is not the case.

Have a Disney Day!:D

Well, I can't lose any points, because all of the points for 2002-2003 will be necessary PLUS 14 points from 2003-2004. The only thing I was worried about was if they might cancel the reservation because I did not have enough points available without borrowing the 14 from next year.

Glad to hear you got those nights!! (I'm also sort of curious if you'd have gotten the other 4?)

I have to agree, you really should call Member Services just to confirm they did borrow those points like they should have. Other than that, you'll be all set!

Chris, that is the FIRST thing I thought of when I saw the confirmation. But, then, that is one reason I handled it the way I did (other than I'm a worry wart.) I thought I'd have a better chance of getting 2 days than the whole 6. Also, you'll notice I got the most expensive Studio room available at that time - preferred view and on Friday and Saturday. That probably made it less attractive for other DVC members - and thus more available.

Glad you feel better. You had several posts where it seemed like your frustration was still very strong. I really think you'll be very pleased with your purchase.

I am soooo glad this came through. Now, you can have a little more confidence that all is not lost if you miss an 11 month reservation.

I'd certainly give them a call - at least you'll know it's been taken care of.

When I asked to be waitlisted recently, MS asked me whether I wanted to give them authorisation to borrow points as they could see I wouldn't have enough points to go ahead with the reservation without borrowing.

Page 31 of the Member Guidebook says
"If the wait list request becomes available..... MS can reserve it for you automatically. Just let the Vacation Advisor.....know you want Automatic Confirmation. And if it's necessary to borrow Vacation Points to secure your reservation, make sure you authorise MS to do that as well "

That's great news, Carl. I hope you have a great trip.

Carl,

I agree with everyone. I am very glad it worked out for you and next year when you have the 11 month window, everything will work even better.

:D

I'm glad to hear that everything has worked out.

When I made my ressie two weeks ago MS told me that I was borrowing some of my 2004 points and ask me first if that was ok to use those points. You might want to call and verify your point status for '02, '03, and '04 years. That way you'll know everything is taken care of.

Have a great trip.

I called MS and they said that 14 points had been borrowed and I did not need to do anything else.

Wifey-poo thinks I'm just a touch anal when it comes to money and our disney points, but whenever I call for ressies, I know exactly how many points I need, from which resort I will use them, if i'm borrowing them, and how many remaining points I have at each resort for all affected use years. Knowing this, I can specifically tell MS how to spend my points, and I get verbal confirmation of everything at that time. I'll get written confirmation when the written ressie comes in the mail.

I'll also have my 'contingency' plans mapped out for when I call and they don't have what I need.

Using a spreadsheet really helps in this matter, especially since I tend to play 'what if' 2,3,4 even 5 years worth of vacations.

I don't know that MS has ever said 'you need to borrow', but since I usually tell them if I expect to borrow, its not a fair judgement.

p.s. It just occurred to me that thanks to DVC, when writing the initials MS, I have stopped using a $ instead of an S and I don't mumble a curse about some guy named Bill. ;)
