Here's something that I haven't quite figured out yet. When staying at one of the DVC resorts, how do you get to the other resorts via DIsney transportation? Do you have to take a bus to one of the parks, then take another bus to the resort?

We're staying at OKW but might want to visit Jellyrolls one night. How in the heck are we gonna get over there?

Thanks in advance!!!

You could do what you said or from OKW you could go over to DTD and then get a bus over to the Boardwalk or head over from MGM or EPCOT by walking. You could also take a cab. You could easily get a cab for your ride home at the lobby area of the Boardwalk Villas.

That's one of the things that got left by the wayside with the new bus structure. Ticket N Transportation center used to be THE bus hub for resort hopping. Now that they've removed that, well.. the only hop point after the parks close is Pleasure Island/DTD as sadi above. You could actually take the ferry, bus, or if you're at that end of the resort, walk over to PI and get a bus to Boardwalk from there.

Going resort to resort is (and always has been) the big flaw in Disney transportation for all the resorts, not just DVC.

You might want to consider working your evening at Jellyrolls into your time at Epcot or MGM. Then, you can just walk or take the boat over to the Boardwalk to spend the evening.

If you have a car, you can drive over to Boardwalk -- it's about 5 minutes from OKW to BW. Be forewarned that taking the bus after the parks have closed, can be quite an adventure and may take upwards of an hour waiting for connections and traffic. The most maddening thing is that sometimes the BW bus to DD drives right by the OKW entrance! Sometimes the price of the cab is worth what you'll save in time -- unless you're up for a tour of WDW.

I've felt for a long time that Disney should come up with some better transportation to the Boardwalk entertainment area. It would help to solve the parking problem for BW guests as well as bring more folks to the bars and restaurants.

Oh and there's no such thing as a silly question here! Sometimes you have the same "silly" question that lots of other folks are wondering about, too.

The short answer is you don't, LOL. As others are saying, it is not at all user friendly and you should allow 1.5-2 hours for each direction in most cases if you are relying on WDW transportation alone. The exact resort and desired destination will determine your options. Generally a car or taxi are your best bets though in some cases you can combine trips and make it much easier. For example if you are staying at BCV, you could go to MK then take the boat over to VWL for Dinner.

As has been mentioned, and I hadn't really thought about before I read it here...this is one of the nice benefits of the SSR location. Being within walking distance to the DTD bus stop gives you access to all the resorts without "transferring" buses!

Otherwise, car or taxi seem to be the best way.

Back in the days of the TTC being the "hub"... The Poly had a clear transportation advantage over the rest of the resorts on property. Once TTC lost that central role... going resort to resort really suffered.

SSR is probably the closest to having that original advantage that the poly once enjoyed... with the obvious exception of not having the monorail. Transportation was a key reason that we chose SSR.

Grab the first bus to MK or AK. Then take their bus to Boardwalk. Or for a bit more adventure, take a bus to MGM and the boat to Boardwalk (or walk). You could take go to Epcot also, but you would have to hike through it to get to Boardwalk.

See this was one of my reasons why I think SSR is selling like hotcakes. To be able to get to any resort from DTD is a huge bonus in my book :) We love going to the different resort's restaurants. This time we may even check out some other resorts we have never seen since it is easy from SSR.

My trip in October will be first time renting a car. My main reason for this is so I can spend a day or two checking out resorts I have not been at. Despite SSR obvious bus connection with resorts I still did not want to bus hop that much to see resorts.

When did the Ticket and Transportation lose the ability to act as a hub for transportation to other resorts ???

Thanks,
Vince

There are a lot of people who use the transportation system. Some in management may say it would cost way too much to reduce the travel time from 1.5 to 2 hours down to 30 minutes. I wonder if they have considered if the travel time was reduced it would give the people more time to spend their money.

You might want to also ask your question on the Transportation Board. There are some real experts on the Disney transit system there!

And, I agree, it's not a silly question!

Just some FYI.

Regarding the pathway from SSR to DD, even though the resort is open, that pathway is not yet open and probably won't be open until the 3rd building opens in about another month or so. The pathway is currently closed because there is still construction going on over on that side.

The other pathway that goes to the West Side is open. To get to it just walk to the boat dock. From there follow the golf path across the bridge and then join the path that comes from OKW and follow it to DD West End, where the pathway ends.

I cannot remember the exact date... but I think they changed the system about the time the Epcot resort area opened up. With the recent expansion of CBR, PO/DL, and the Epcot resorts... the TTC was getting too busy, and they built the bus station at the MK. That enabled WDW resort guests to have direct transportation to the MK... and the TTC really became the entrance point for those arriving by car and charter bus. The "walk to the TTC" advantage of the Polynesian resort was of minimal use once that happened... except for excellent transportation to Epcot via a single monorail.

Actually, compared to BCV and VWL, and in spite of the hype, I think SSR is selling at a rather modest rate. Especially since it's the only game in town, the first time that's happened in several years. Obviously, only Disney knows for certain.

Yeah but aren't they smaller resorts? From what I have read on these boards so I know it is maily opinion but aren't SSR sales better than what DVC expected?

The last time we stayed at OKW we planned an adults night out at Boardwalk. We wound up being at Epcot then walking over to BW after Illuminations. After having dinner and hanging out at Jellyrolls we decided to go back to OKW, it was about 12:30 am. We waited over an hour for a bus to DTD then a bus to OKW. Later on in the same trip we were to going to Boma's at AKL for dinner and we decided to taxi both ways. It cost $10 each way which to me was way worth the convenience of it.

We are renting a car because our last mears experience was brutal and we don't want to chance anything with the cruise plus we can go to universal without hassle but I will see how it goes from SSR to DTD to a resort and post it here. It will be in NOV though LOL

We were at OKW for the Member Homecoming. We wanted to have dinner at Big River Grill and didn't want to do the bus switcheroo.

We were staying close to the Hospitality House so we simply went to the bellstand and requested a cab. Within moments, one had arrived. The fare was around $7.00 without the tip. :D
