I cannot believe how much it has went up to feed the fins. The last time I was there it was 7 bucks...minus a dollar I guess for passholders.

but...my question is...can the whole family get in or do you have to buy a tray for each family member?

TIA!

Last I heard, each person feeding the dolphins must purchase their own tray of fish. :guilty:

No sharing...they wouldn't even let a non-paying dad in with his little boy when we were there recently.

So you are in the area with the dolphins, you are feeding them etc. Are there any photographers in the area taking pics or do you have to take your own pics? Just wondering how I am going to juggle dolpin/fish/camera.

TIA

PS Are there any other areas where there are photographers in SW? (ie like photopass)

I was also wondering about how to photograph DKs feeding the dolphins.

I see from the maps/aerial photos that there is a kind of overlook (live.com and google) opposite the feeding area. Presumably one can drop the kids (or kids and 1 parent if they're little) in the feeding line and tell them to position themselves opposite the overlook, and then the camera jockey can snap pix from up there.

The pond looks to be about 5 or 6 yards wide which will require a little bit of a telephoto lens if you want really intimate, closeup photos of the teh kids and cetaceans.

Has anyone done this before?

It's been about a year and a half since I last went to SW and was able to do the dolphin feeding but at that time and numerous times before then they had photographers stationed on the "beach" in the dolphin pool, and they did a good job of taking pictures of everyone in our party. There area is off limits to the guests since they are actually standing right next to or in the water of the dolphin pool. To get your pictures from SW, there is an employee in the roped off area where the feeding is going on that will bring you a piece of paper with a number on it and when you are done feeding you can go take a look at all of your pictures. It's a kind of random way of taking pictures, but they do a good job of getting a number of pictures and usually getting at least one picture of everyone in your party.

If you want to take pictures yourself, if you have a decent telephoto lens you can go across the pool and up to the observation area, you look down onto the dolphin feed area, I've been able to get cute pictures from there. The other place to stand is at the same level and to the right of the dolphin feeding area. If you are standing in front of the area to buy food, looking at the dolphin pool, all the way to the right you can usually get in there to get good pictures across the pool and it's not too far from where the action is going on.

Hope this helps!

BTW when and where do they post the feeding schedule? I think I read somewhere that they vary it from day to day so the animals won't get in a rut. It would be nice to know when one should mosy over to the dolphin area to line up for the kippers.

The schedule is posted at or near the line for the food.

Theres a few photographers floating around the park. I have seen them near the sting rays and somewhere else, I just cant think of it off hand.
I do know there are photographers near the pool for the dolphin feeds and someone will aproach you when your pic is taken with the number to claim your pics.

I havent, never really thought about it, but depending on where your kids are standing, it can be fairly close. Depends on location.Next time I go over, I might try to take a few of the dolphins near the far wall and see how it shakes out.

Personally I dont like the new way they do it as the majority of the pool is closed unless you buy the fish. Then and only then you get to get to the wall. They have a small area not roped off for feedings, but I rarely if ever have seen a dolphin in that part of the pool.

These are just a few of the photos we took ourselves, with a very basic camera, whilst we were feeding the dolphins last August. I was quite pleased.

Love your photos, bigbear. :goodvibes

Thank you so much. It was part of a magical two week holiday to celebrate our silver wedding. First trip to WDW, in fact first trip out of Europe for all except DD. We can't wait to visit again but need to do some saving first! In the meantime I drop in here from time to time to enjoy the memories! :)
