Feeding a kitten, advice needed...

It's been 6+ years since we had a kitten in the house and now I'm stumped. Our little cutie has been peeing everywhere so I'm trying to curve her eating so that I can watch her when it should be time to potty so I can direct her to the box (the kittens were outside before we got her) so all this is new to her.

Well she eats and eats and eats, what would be a fair time to cut her off and a good time to bring the food back out so that she doesn't get too hungry yet I'm not worrying about finding presents in the morning. Right now it's been open buffet for her since our big kitty eats all the time, I've moved her dishes up where Stitch (the kitten) can't get to them now. Just looking for some advice. I've put down a 1/3 pouch of Eukenubia (sp) kitten formula and a 1/2 cup of dry Science Diet Kitten (which is what the directions say), just don't know when it's ok to pull it up. TIA

I am not a cat owner, however, my MIL is a cat rescue, and she often will do "crate training" on cats who don't use the littlebox. It's a lot like with dogs. The cat does not get the run of the house until it proves it can be trusted. She has an playpen that she uses. She keeps the cat in there with a litterbox, and also will feed it in there. I'm not sure how long it usually takes, but cats are pretty smart, so I imagine it couldn't take more than a week.

The cat may also want it's own litterbox or my not like the litter you are using, hence it doesn't go near the one you already have.

And of course, make sure the cat doesn't have a UTI or something that makes it harder for the cat to control itself.

I got her a seperate box with low sides so it's easy for her to use. I think tonight I may try to place her and the box in the bathroom to control her "area" and see what happens.

What we did when we had out kittens was to put them in the bathroom with the litterbox and play with them there. When we saw that they used the litter box, then we let them go everywhere, but not at night, at night we made them a bed in the bathroom with the litterbox close by. As soon as we woke up a few nights and saw that they were doing there business there on a regular basis, they got free run of the house.
I stayed with them all hours of the night, because we just loved them so much. But this method did not take long and soon they were roaming around the house at night.

I can't believe your MIL has a cat rescue and you don't have cats.

DH is allergic She didn't start until after he left the house! We've got enough trouble with our mini schnauzer But we joke that the cats are a replacement for DH!

I have 8 cats and I have never had a problem with one not going in the litter box. I would try the crate thing and if that doesn't work I would say a trip to the vet would be a good idea. Cats are usually very clean and always go where they are supposed to.
