Hi all

on our last trip to DLRP our now 4 year old, was 2, so we didn't need to worry about nappies, baby food etc.

However we are going in April with the new baby as well, he will be 9 months at the time, DH is already worrried about all the extras I think I will need.

So I need to know about food available for babies (and nappies if anyone can tell me)
I am still breastfeeding and will till after the holiday for easiness (although he now only feeds from me 1st thing am, and last thing pm) he does take a bottle at tea time, but I can offer him breast or may take 1 bottle and wash it out (won't be too fussed over sterilising at 9 months - we don't do his bowls or cutlery now!!) and premeasured powder, filling bottle with boiled water from kettle.

Does Auchan sell premixed milk cartons - like SMA, farleys?

Can I get from the garage, hotel shop (we are at Cheyenne) or Auchan baby food in jars (or tins)?

And finally (for now!) I was going to take a pack of nappies approx 40, for the week, but DH would prefer to buy from Auchan, do they have pampers / huggies in france?

BTW we are getting car for the week also - as we like to drive around and may do trip to Parc Asterix, and def to Paris (we did last time, so are happy with parking up etc, DH driven in Paris for work - so can even do the Arc de Triumphe:scared1: )

hi

hopefully someone else can help, with your Qs about the availability of nappies / milk in France :)

but for sterilising you can get cold water sterilising bags http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B0013KC3II or use a steri bottle ( disposable) http://www.steribottle.com/services.htm if he only uses one a day :)

as i would want ,to sterilise "just in case"

always til 12 months of age, with anything that comes into contact with milk

I seem to recall they sold small packs of nappies even in the Newport Bay hotel shop (don't know about Cheyenne sorry), and they certainly sell Pampers in France. If you are having a car, a quick trip to Auchan will sort you out for sure.

Hi Rachie

thanks for the mothercare link - If I decide to take the bottle (probably not, and will rely on the breast!) these look great - I've never seen them before.
Steri bottles are a no-no, dd hated them, and ds will only take his closer to nature to bottle after lots and lots of perseverance (hence why he still is breastfeeding!)

Actually writing that has made me think maybe I should take one bottle and some of those bags, as he may not take the bottle when we get back, if he doesn't have it for a week!

Thanks
S

I have taken both my children when they were both still breastfeeding and didn't have any problems at all. I just tended to feed them in the restaurant whilst waiting for our food, then they were happy until everyone finished eating. I took along some beakers for water/juice. I'm afraid I don't know about formula as I have never used it.

There is a shop at the start of main street that sells bits for babies. fairly small nappies but they might be big enough; jars of food; possibly formula but i bf exclusively (far too lazy for anything else) but they may well sell cartons right there in the park. I am going next week    and will have a look - if you send me a pm i will e-mail you.
in the table service restaurants they give you purees for free with meals, but the all-you-can-eat buffets have loads for babies - fruit, fruit salad, loads of salady things. ds2 actually got quite partial to the chicken drumsticks in cafe agraba - he was 6 months old the last time.
the baby care room (with all it's nestle 'chocolate milk for babies' posters) is handy for warming food and having a rest, but you can breastfeed wherever and I have a picture of ds2 tucking in on the Pirates ride as I completely forgot to pose nicely for the camera.
we've been on that ride so many times I automatically plant my feet before the drops.

DD went for the first time when she was 11 months. As she wasn't having that much milk at the time - just am and pm - I took some SMA cartons and her beaker - just used boiling water to clean it.

You can get baby food and nappies at any of the hotel shops but the food is not the same as yopu get at hope - different brands altogether. DD was quite fussy so we took some food from home to supplement food we could get in the restaurants.

They did Pampers I think in the hotels but I found that they were very expensive and they only had limited sizes. I didn't need any but checked them out for interest and found that a small pack of about 10 cost more than a large pack of over 30 costs at home!

Hope this helps.

We went with our 10m old at the time last year. I took little pots of food with me for each meal, used Plum Baby ones, they come in a lastic container and don't weigh a lot, a lot easier than worrying if we'll find some there etc.

Can't help with the bottle and formula as I brestfed her so it was easy.

I remember there were nappies in Cheyenne, but we also brought some with us, a small pack of Pampers. I think we'll do the same when we go back in April.

Huggies is a French brand, so Auchan should have some.

If I were you I'd try and bring a few jars from home as we found the French ones in the park (Nestle I think) to be quite different to what DS was used to, plus they made him hyper as they had more sugar in than the Hipp organic we usually used. Some of the restaurants had fab food for little ones. Quite a few had pasta or steamed veg that we just mushed up, and Ds loved them.

If you get really stuck, there is a pharmacy at Val d'Europe right opposite the train station that sells Pampers. We found the shop on Main Street DLRP that sold nappies only had small sizes.

The General Store at the Cheyenne has a fair amount of choice of baby foods. They have improved on that since we were there in Oct 07 with our 15 month old. They have flavoured rice puddings and purees, not sure what else though.

Also, the shop inside the train station sells some baby products and they are cheaper than the hotels and DLRP shops.

Another thing which we did was take some of the packet dried food, it hardly weighs anything. ( Even though our daughter was past this stage of food, we thought it may be a good idea as we were unsure of what food would be available for her, and it was a good thing we did.)

Great thread, lots of useful info for new mums!! :thumbsup2

Hi all

thanks for all the info and advice.

I am still going ahead with the Breastfeeding - and going to take one bottle for his tea time feed and some sterilising bags. We are going to bare the weight of bringing preprepared cartons of milk with us - the empty space on the return home can be used for more souvenirs!!

Going to take some dried cereal for emergencies if can't find food - but going to hope for the best - he has now cut some teeth and on lumpier food so should maybe manage some munching if I mash stuff!

Nappies - only taking a couple of days worth and going to get some in Auchan.

Thanks again for all help - and I will try to remember all the baby type info I discover for a special trip report on DLP with a bubba.
