"Feedback" from job interview?

DH had an interview one week ago from Friday. He was the last of 4 to interview, and they said they would be getting together Monday to decide. Well on Friday, he got a call from a guy at "corporate" (this guy had arranged the interview, but he is several states away from the interview/job location). No one was home, but he left a very friendly message saying he wanted to "catch up with (DH) before the weekend to get some feedback, will call again on Tuesday (tomorrow) and to have a nice holiday weekend".

DH has had 4 other interviews without offers and only one called back (a month later) to tell him they chose another applicant. Anyway, is this "feedback" a typical thing from a corporate office after you've interviewed? We're really trying to not get too excited that its an offer, but we're keeping our fingers crossed! But I keep wondering how do you let a guy down by telling him they chose someone else and then ask him for feedback on the interview!? :confused3

I guess we will see tomorrow...
Any experience? Advice?

Thanks

Let me emphasize this could be anything. Anything. But if I had to take a guess, here's a scenario I've seen...

The "deciders" (I use the term loosely because we are talking about corporate America) sitting around trying to figure out who to make the offer to. This guy is good, but so is that guy, and its hard to tell with just the interview. I don't want to make a choice. I know, we'll stall. So they go back to a couple of the candidates and ask for some feedback, hoping somebody will say something to rule them out and make the decision for them.

Yep, I agree with Salmoneous. It's probably something like they can't quite make their mind up so it's an informal phone interview. To see if someone says something or does something one way or the other to help them make their decision easier.

Thanks guys! :thumbsup2 I'm hoping you all are right....how could 4 DISers be wrong?? :teeth:

Keeping fingers crossed... :rolleyes1

Depending on the number of people we interview, we usually narrow it down to 2 or3 candidates and then do a second interview, usually with the President of the Company, before making an offer. If this was a first interview, then this can very likely be a follow-up interview.
