i read in an older thread that someone checked in to BWV, went to their room, and decided they didn't like it.
when they called the front desk to say they wanted a different room, they were charged a fee of $35 to do the room change.

i'd like more information about this fee. i haven't ever heard of this happening at non-DVC properties... it sounds pretty strange to me.

This is a strictly DVC policy that was instituted a few years ago to reduce housekeeping costs. I believe that once you have visited your room (even if you haven't touched anything), housekeeping must come in again to check it out before they can assign it to someone else. I can remember lots of people staying in a room one night, deciding they didn't like it, and asking for a transfer - this made a lot more work for housekeeping - and increased our dues!

In March of 2000 I went to OKW to investigate the place before purchasing. We were given a handicapped studio that was not acceptable at the time because my wife works in the healthcare field and facing a handicapped shower every day was just like being at work for her. At any rate I asked we be re-located and they did so after the first night at the resort. No fees were charged. If we were members would we have been charged at the time? This seems to be a little too much.

There are exceptions to the policy. If there are mechanical, plumbing or other such issues which cannot be easily resolved, a room change would be without any charge. If the change is for a different view or floor, the charge will likely be applied.

If ask for a change while at the desk (different building/floor/etc.)- there will be no charge, but these changes are not always available. If you are being assisted by Bell Services to show you to your room and there is something unacceptable, they can likely assist with a change without charge (as they would know that nothing was disturbed in the room).

The purpose of the charge is to discourage the room changes which were being requested after moving into the room for no other reason than change itself.

We always check the building location and floor while at the desk to make sure it will be acceptable before going to the room itself and have never been disappointed.
