Fed employee disapointed

They weren't talking to the OP though. It was a response to a totally separate comment.

I think there is a difference between being disappointed in the situation and being disappointed in Disney for not making an exception.

I get that. The OP never came back, but I'm hoping that he saw that Disney will do a 15 day extension. That would have hopefully got him through. I wouldn't expect Disney to do more, but they did say that they were keeping track of the calls so who knows. If they did, that would be gracious, but they certainly don't have to. Trips can always be moved to a later date.

Please excuse me too. I'm on edge myself because of this government shut down. While our trip is paid for and we are OK, my husbands stress level is up. (That's never fun!!) He's worried for his employees, some are single mothers. They are all frustrated with the whole thing, and watching the news today who knows when something will happen. :headache:

Posts like this aggregate me. He simply said he was disappointed, I don't think he needed to be lectured. I had the same question about the pay off date being extended because I have heard people talking about it over the years, and we have the money for our trip and plenty of money to cover our expenses during the furlough. My goodness! :sad2: It sounds like he wanted to know his options, just like me and others did. I didn't expect special treatment from Disney but I knew they had some kind of extension policy. I chose to pay ours off and not use it, but it was nice that they offered it.

Anyone going through this is stressed out in some way or another, so I think being anything BUT supportive at this point is rude! The OP knows if he can afford the trip or not. I don't think he needs our help for that.

But the OP didn't "simply say he was disappointed". He expressly indicated he was disappointed in Disney because they wouldn't change their policies for his personal situation. They offered him options: stay in a cheaper resort. Reduce the number of nights he has booked. Most posters have simply reiterated that Disney wasn't doing anything bad. They were simply adhering to the policies already in place, which really, should have been the OP's expectation. Perhaps the OP could have *hoped* for some extra consideration, but he should not have expected it.

I certainly haven't seen anyone being unkind on this thread :confused3 . Sometimes factual can come across as hurtful if someone is feeling vulnerable to begin with (which, under the circumstances, I am sure the OP was). that doesn't make them mean, though. Hard to hear? Maybe. But not hateful or rude as another poster suggested.

The OP did say that they were cash strapped enough that the funds for the trip may be needed to cover living expenses. That suggested to many that maybe this wasn't the best time to be traveling then. Again, not a lecture, just a logical conclusion for most folks on the budget board. No one would want to see another family's trip called off (after all, I bet we have all "been there" at one time or another) but yet sometimes that might be the best (albiet hard to hear) advice.

Really disappointed in Disney. We have a trip planned for early December and my wife as a federal employee is currently not being paid. Our deposit is due at the end of this month and we may need to use the trip money to cover living expenses until back pay is restored; if it is restored. Disney was not willing to extend the period of when final payment is due. Reply was to come for less time or stay in a cheaper resort. Hope we don't have to cancel our first family trip to the mouses house!!! Really surprised.
