Going on a 3-night Dream cruise in February and wondering about how cold the pools and Castaway Cay may be for my DS9. Thinking of getting him a wetsuit of some sort as opposed to regular swim shorts and rash guard. Would a wetsuit by overkill?

The weather can vary greatly. We have sailed in February twice, 2014 and 2015. The first time our day at CC was beautiful and on the warm side. The next time we didn't even make it to CC. We went to Nassau instead, which I would assume the weather would be comparable there, and it was quite chilly. There were people in the pool that day, but I was cold in my jeans and sweatshirt. ;) I know that doesn't help much but I would suggest being prepared for different options.

The pools on-board are heated, so the issue there would be air temperature. It is likely to be in the 70s but could be cooler. The breeze when the boat is underway will also make it feel cooler.

CC is not only dependent on air temps, but on water temps. At that point the water is likely to be colder than 75º, many people find that too cold for pleasure swimming. If you were diving in the Bahamas in February, the dive master would probably recommend a full wet suit.

We have been to CC several times in Feb and although the air temp has varied (mainly due to winds) the sea has always been easily warm enough for swimming for us. Not really warm like the Carribean, but warm enough that it takes very little time to get used to it and feel comfortable.
However, it may depend on what you are used to. We live on a tiny island in the Atlantic just off the UK mainland and out water is very cold - I don't swim here without a wetsuit (though I did as a child)!

On the Wonder last June in Alaska where our grandkids found a way to swim, temperature issues or not. Same kids can play at the beach (Oregon) when it is 45 and windy...they just love the beach and water. With heated water and rather protected pools (from wind) I think you will be OK.
Now, if you will pay for me to come along, I will be more than happy to test the pools for you at least twice a day. As a bonus I'll check the Mickey Bars for you, too.

It’s going to vary.

My cousins went on a 3 day in
2012 and were so cold. They wore jeans and sweatshirts to check out castaway. Now, there was a cold snap that week, and we (at Wdw) were turning blue too.

We all went on a 3 day the following year, and it was lovely. Not hot, but perfect. The water felt very nice.

My family went again in October and it was HOT, and the water felt cold relative to the outside temp.

I don’t set a toe in the overcrowded Disney ship pools, so I don’t know about those.

At CC on two different February cruises.
One time it was too cold to even set foot in the water.
The other time it was cool but once you got use to the water it was fine to swim in.

We've sailed once at the end of February and another time during the first week of March. Our CC day in February was beautiful - temps were warm and water was plenty warm to swim in. Peter, our CD, noted that it was like a typical June day. Pools were fine that trip. During our March cruise, it was mostly sunny and warm, the water was fine (we're from NE, so maybe that makes a difference), but it was super windy. Our Nassau day that same cruise was cool and gray. We thought about the Aquaduck, but quickly changed our minds - too cold. DS got in the pool for a few minutes, but I was wrapped in a towel watching him by the pool. I think it's really hit or miss that time of year. We still had a ton of fun. There's so much to do on the ship even if it's too cool to swim.
